All those who were celebrating Martial Law on another thread, and the down fall of the Shinawatras - welcome to the real world. And next time, be a little more careful what it is you wish for!
Still celebrating Martial law and the down fall of the Shinawatras...curfew will soon pass...as Martial law...to get rid of the Shinawatras family...worth every bit of it...
You don't think they will get elected again once the military allows a new election?
No...I really do not...most of the country has had its fill of the Shinawatras family and cronies corrupt politics...
You may be correct, the rice pledging
schemescam may be the final nail in the coffin. -
Arrrgh! I've just spent the past three months convincing my family and friends that Thailand is a safe, stable place to live. We're moving to Pattaya from the US at the end of the year. The timing on this is killing me. We're still moving, but there's going to be hell to pay from the in-laws for the next six months.
Time to start the damage control. Spin, spin, spin...
(And yes, I know it's not all about me - I can still be annoyed, right?)
Good luck with that, probably you can see what TAT says

Would some of you idiots quit crying because you can't sit on a bar stool until 3am for at least a few days, if not longer? Would you prefer to have to dodge grenades and gunfire as you walk the streets? There's a lot of really angry and confused people out there right now, so just pray the army manages to keep a lid on things.
Lid-keeping is what leads to big explosions...

Night time curfew means the destruction of the tourism industry and all the impoverished ladies working in Pattaya and Phuket will have to go back to the rice farms and earn 200 bhat a day. This is punishing the poor red shirts who no longer have their daughters and ladyboy sons send money back home to feed their families
Interesting take on it.. not sure if you are serious, but what you're saying could atleast be part of the reason,, scary...

Where have you been since November?I flew out of Thailand 2 days ago. Seems my timing was perfect.
Feel sorry for all the people that are suffering financially because of this. The elite and their puppet Suthep can sit back knowing they got their way but they know in their hearts their time is short. Once you have awakened peoples desire for democracy and given them a taste there is no going back.
When an event i cant mention happens in the very near future their time will be up, even if they have secured a friendly government in power for when it happens. This of course is what this was all about..... corruption?? haha give me a break
Suthep is part of the blame but the majority falls on the corrupt Government who caused all this mess in the first place.
Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app
Suthep would have been a horrible (great?) leader, he lied blatantly and repeatedly (12 times) during the protests.

Channel News Asia still on IPM in Surin and I'm also watching F1 practice from Monaco on 365sort.tv. Guess Bangkok, Chiang Mai will be targeted frst then they will methodically work around the preplanned regions. Had plenty of time to organise, plan and now implement.
What is it that they want to do in Chiang Mai? There's no protests in Chiang Mai?

Will be interesting to see how this is enforced in Pattaya. Will be a ghost town if they really mean business.
How can that be,with such a beautiful town and wonderful countryside and all those high class tourists with the lovely welcoming Thais
Pattaya is completely dead during the day

Great for tourism, Thailands just loves to shoot itself in the foot
Can just see the tourists already here ... a nice dinner, a few pints head to a bar or club .. closes at 10pm 555
Can also see lots of tourists canceling and or changinjg destinations
Thailand the HUB of self inflicted pain
Most thais are probably not thinking about tourism right now. They have bigger problems at hand.

What happens us? We arrive in bkk dang mung at 2345
You must call immigration and get a residence certificate that shows on paper that don muang is your place of residence legally, then you must stay in don muang until 5am?

Meaning martial law didn't turn out so good.

I hope my nurse girlfriend will be allowed to leave for the midnight shift en the hospital tonight,, i will wake her up 22:30pm .. haha ..

They just don't learn do they. And the hateful cycle starts again.
"In order for the country to return to normal quickly, the National Peace Keeping Committee comprised of the army, the Thai armed forces, the Royal Air Force and the police need to seize power as of May 22 at 4.30 pm," <-- what is normal? election, protests, coup, election, protests, coup, repeat..

Won't this just send all the people to vientiane where they hand out tourist visas to anyone without questions?

Let's say I stay in Sweden 10 months of the year and visit Thailand 2 months each year,, am I allowed to work while on holiday? Sometimes a client needs some emergency stuff... If it is ok, then where is the line drawn? How much can I work on my holiday?
-
Legally you are not allowed to work in Thailand without a work permit, which you need to get through a Thai company.
As you already found most people in your case opt for doing it illegally and just work at home without telling anyone. That does give visa problems and studying is one way people handle that.
That's so strange, i would GLADLY pay tax here instead of in Sweden... If they just let me..
-
Oh, I don't want to hire thai people just to meet some requirement for work permit.

Hello peoples,
I'm from Sweden,
I have a Swedish private firm, i am the owner and only employee.
I have clients from US, Australia etc, (No clients from Thailand).
My clients pay me to program websites.
I work from home.
What type of visa do I need if I want to work from Thailand?
How do I get it?
I know many people have this problem, and some of them say "get an education visa" .. but that is not legal, or is it?
If my company is Swedish and my clients are American, and I work from Thailand but pay tax in Sweden? <deleted>?
Any good lawyers?
Thanks in advance

I think the most practical and pragmatic solution is to buy alot of tickets to different surrounding countries,, buy tickets to phillipines, cambodia, myanmar whatever, make hotel reservations in thailand and in other countries,, show these to immigration when asked what you will do in thailand,, also have the 20k for display..
best to make reservations / tickets that can be cancelled, or that can be on hold until paid, .. just to show them something,, ofcourse if you can afford throwing away money it would be best to pay ..

They didn't ask for financials/proof in vientiane,, where are they doing it? Do you mean mae sai border when attempting to enter the country on a tourist visa? (not exemption)
It is only for those doing multiple 30 or 15 day visa exempt entries at the border.
The new rules have nothing to do with getting tourist visas.
The new rules do not apply to tourist visas
Wrong, wrong, wrong.
“The crackdown is all about preventing foreigners from using visa-exemptions and tourist visas to stay in Thailand and work,” Gen Pharnu said. You should look at the dates the statements you quoted were made before that last statement was made by the general. And that was meant for those that are working illegally on tourist visas.
They might ask a few question to those that have several tourist visas in their passport on entry to the country. But more than likely not for those that have them from their home country,
The nearby locations have been scrutinizing tourist visa applications for those they suspect or working here. They have been asking
for financial proof they have funds from outside the country for some time now. -
I don't want anyone else to feel like i did before going there,, not having a clue about how it would go
tldr: business as usual regarding tourist visas in vientiane.
Just came back from vientiane. I got a double entry tourist visa. (i had the same previously,, so it was back-2-back double-entry tourist visa).
No problems in vientiane, business as usual, was not asked to provide financials, tickets, etc...
The only thing different was the amount of people,, but could be due to holiday may 13.. Anyway, everybody got served and i saw noone get refused or hassled in the embassy or when going through the border back to thailand.
Because of the amount of people in the embassy, stuff got a bit delayed, usually the stop taking applications 11:30 ,, but now they took applicaitons to around 1pm.. As long as you got a queue number before 11:30.. Some people said this was due to the holiday may 13th..
Getting passports back the day after usually starts at 1:30pm,, but now it was delayed to around 2pm because they were still taking payments from applicants.
You are a gentleman sir. Thank you for bothering to follow through with this account of your experience :-)
