I'm due for one next Monday, but will be going for it (at Jomtien) on Thursday. I don't expect a problem - I had an SETV which I extended (making 3 months), then left the country for 2 weeks before coming back on visa exempt. I'm going to extend that a few days ahead of time in case the unthinkable happens and I get the royal punt (unlikely, but sensible to be prepared) and I need to POQ. I don't want another black mark in my passport - I have got one from being 1 day late in leaving last time.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Has anyone tried extending their tourist visa at Jomtien 30 days or more before the date stamp expiry in the passport and been successful?

  2. If an Aussie citizen (male) goes back home with their Thai wife/defacto to have their baby, will everything be covered by Medicare when giving birth at a public hospital? I'm thinking that it may not because it's the woman that is in the hospital and she's not an Aussie citizen even though the baby belongs to the male Aussie citizen. Does anyone know as I can't seem to find anything via Google. What about for other citizens of other Western countries of a male?

Inherited the problem.  She hasn't been pushing for financial help, to her credit

She's pushing for financial help from who?

As I said, she's naive.  Young and still learning about life.  She lives with me and we are a couple so walking away is not really an option.   The events predated me being in LoS.

Time will tell who's the naive one and still learning about life.

  4. It is high season all year round here. Look at the traffic jams on the weekends, the millions of Chinese everywhere, including the young adults coming in & out of the condo buildings every day, the millions of Chinese tour groups on buses being the old generation, etc. Have a walk on Walking St anywhere between midnight and 5am and it's chocker blocked full or tourists looking around and blocking the way that you have to dodge all the s'rlow walkers who have no idea where they're going. The Indian clubs are packed, the arabs are all around in their bars/clubs, and the white folks are strolling around too.

Because it’s Thailand. Any other online or app system in the would would either let you choose your user/pass immediately OR give you one.

This simple user/pass issue was handled well over 20 years ago.

It’s appalling they can’t build a site or app in 2019 that can’t do this.

Then there’s the issue of security. How and where are these passes stored? I’ll bet a large amount of money they are not encrypted and are setting open on a server somewhere. Not the end of the world, but incompetence doesn’t stop at the lack of features on the site and app.

What's the name of the app on the Google Play store to download the TM30 app? Can't seem to find one. Only a TM6 one.

The online system works fine, 1,000s of hotels and people use it every hour of everyday. People may have trouble doing the registration and there is a wait for a password but once registered its the simple solution you are looking for. If you really have trouble with the online system there is always a mail in option.

as of today 51,000,000 have used the online system, 45,000 today.

I don't think you understand what is the difference between a "page view" and someone actually using the online system to register...

  7. Trying to work out exactly what's needed to holiday in Vietnam for a few days with a Western passport. Looks like I need to apply for an eVisa or a Visa on Arrival. Am I correct the best site to use is to apply straight for an eVisa for US$25 from here? https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/web/guest/trang-chu-ttdt

Also if changing Thai Baht to Vietnamese Dong, is it best to do it in Vietnam to get the highest rates? Also any recommendations on where to change money in the city area (District 1)?

Cash is the way to go.

I ain't scanning my passport for any commercial outfit,

You never know whose hands those photocopies could end up in!

Never been asked to give a passport until one time. Just told them I don't have it on me and don't have a photocopy on me. She then topped up my card and said next time I need to show passport. Next time went to the exact same station to top up and was never asked again.

Hello. I'm going to apply at the Chicago Thai Embassy for a METV based on marriage. My wife is currently in Thailand. I see the documents required include a "certified" copy of my wife's Thai id and passport. What does certified mean to the embassy? I have copies of both but no special certification. They're just photocopies.

There's no such thing as a METV based on marriage. It's a tourist visa. You don't need your wife's Thai ID & passport. I suggest you re-read the documentation required on their website for a METV.

The immigration office is in the Government Complex in Chaengwattana.

    http://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/location1.html

    You can get a 60 day extension to visit your wife (1,900 baht). You’ll need;

    • Original marriage certificate plus signed copy.
    • Signed copies of wife's ID and Tabien Baan.
    • Signed copies of your passport pages: ID page, visa, entry stamp, departure card.
    • 1 x photo 6 x 4.
    • Your wife will need to be with you.
    • Maybe they will want form TM30. This is the form used by the Owner/House-master to report that you are staying with them.

    Just show up.

Really? With a METV but being married you can get a 60 day extension from immigration instead of the usual 30 days? Never heard that before. Anyone else can confirm this to be true?

You can apply for a multiple entry non-o visa that allows unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date of issue at the consulates in Savannakhet, Laos or Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam without any financial proof. Or in Australia at the embassy in Canberra or the official consulate in Sydney.

To apply for a one year extension of stay at immigration you need 400k baht in a Thai bank for 2 months in your name only or proof of 40k baht income.

You can apply for a change of visa status from a tourist visa to a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at a immigration office based upon qualifying for an extension of stay based upon marriage.

Does the 400k in a Thai bank need proof that it was transferred from overseas, or can you just use existing funds in the Thai bank account if it's already in there?

    On the Sydney site: http://www.thaiembassy.org/sydney/en/other/96010-NON-IMMIGRANT-VISA.html

For the Non-O It says the below. How is it possible for a Thai husband or wife to have "A copy of the visa or work permit of a spouse or parent who is currently working in Thailand"? They are already Thai so they don't need something like that...

    Additional required documents:

    • A proof of relationships such as marriage certificate or birth certificate.
    • A confirmation letter from your spouse or family member with their Thai ID card and house registration.
    • A copy of the visa or work permit of a spouse or parent who is currently working in Thailand

For me, cold starts below 20-22 degrees C, and I haven't seen that for years...

I have my aircon turned on at 25 degrees C, only in the night, and it is working all night, meaning that the temperature never goes below 25...hardly cold...

I'm sure if you just opened the window and/or the balcony door at night you'd find the air nice and cool with a decently strong breeze and wouldn't need to be blowing money on aircon all night. Wouldn't even really need to use a fan either when sleeping.
