  1. I have been using melatonin successfully for the last 20 years and still have some bad bouts of insomnia..I play tennis everyday and go to the gym as well and although the excersize is great..it doesnt guarantee a good nights sleep. I also use the stillnox when needed and find that it gets me to sleep very well. People should be aware that it is a very addictive drug and should be used with precaution.

  2. I have been buying my steaks at Villa since they opened and have very good luck with both the T-Bone at 550 baht per kilo and the ribeye at 880baht per kilo..I am now buying my steaks and lamb..They have some great Aussie bone-in ribeye in the case not frozen for 750 per kilo..they have some steaks already cut weighing about 1 kilo....I have been cooking 1 for me and the Mrs. and it is just excellent...also in the case nex to these steaks is aussie lamb leg at 350 per kilo..a very good buy

Bulk potato salad and coleslaw at Villa Market..165 baht per kilo and excellent

  3. I used Pratunam Dental Clinic in Ratchatawee Road Bangkok, opposit the 7/11 and under the overhead walkway. Forget all the crap most of the old timers on here tell you. Bangkok Dental Hospital i outrageous, as too are places like Bangkok Smile, Dr. whoever with his limo pick-up, etc.

There are a few dental practices on Ratchatawee Road and the prices are similar.

Root canal varies but mine for an upper was Bt3,000, a pin was Bt1,500 and a crown was Bt3,800, 8,000 or 10,000 depending on what material you wanted as the base. An x-ray was Bt100.

I'm really tired of seeing the crap posted on this forum (especially the Chiang Mai section) about certain dental practices when the prices are equated with UK or US prices. Bangkok Dental Hospital quoted me Bt5,000 for a temporary plate and the same plate was made in Chiang Mai for Bt900.

Totally ignore the condescending reply of people such as ericg1953 and comments such as "As recommended many times here" and "I wouldnt even think of going anywhere else". With an attitude like that, he really wouldn't know who was doing what for what price.

Same goes for tutsiwarrior. Bt270 for a course of antibiotics? When a course of antibiotics and pain killers, even direct from a pharmacy cost less than Bt150? That says it all.

My local little dentist can't do implants, but fillings, crowns, etc are all in her scope. She goes to great lengths to explain each step and the root canal I had done there was absolutely painless and completed perfectly in one step- though she did check it another time. She also seems to somewhat of a perfectionist.

My comments are based on my experiences at DentalHospital which have been excellent. I have had about 5 fillings done there as well as a gold onlay. The fees were 1000 baht for each filling which I thought was very fair. I have never been pushed for xrays or exams there, in fact it was the opposite as the dentist told me to hold off on work another dentist said needed to be done now. My father was a dentist who then became an endodontist and then taught at the University, so I have a fairly good feel for good work.

  4. Go to Romrawin Clinic or Apex profound beauty clinic in Jungceylon.

    They can help you.

I have removed birthmarks with CO2 laser in Bangkok and it worked well.

It depends on what kind of mole it is and if it stands out from the surface or not.

Go to Jungceylon and ask. It might be a bit pricy but at least you will get to talk to someone who knows.

I think the consultation at Romrawin is free, for apex i dont know.

Bangkok hospital phuket also has laser to remove birthmarks and moles.

    Take care,

    comehome

Ps. both Romrawin and Apex have websites in english. Just google and you will find them. /ds.

I have had some moles removed by Dr. Nat at Apex...the cost was half of BangkokPattaya Hospital and she is a very good dermatologist. If you are going to Apex in Phuket make sure you wait for Dr. Natapat. She is probably there about once a month only

  5. I will have a second opinion. Thanks all of you.

But one mistake, I do not take both enalapril and zestril, they are the same stuff. I use 5 mg amlodipine and 20 mg enalapril, in Europe known as Zestril, also known as Zestoretic which includes a diuretic.

My lipids are low. But I will have a full checkup in Udon including ecg and stress test.

There is one more reason to slow down the enalapril. I am due for a hip replacement and the nsaid pain pills (celebrex e.o.) do not go together with enalapril. But I hear that morphine is a good alternative. Or not ?

I agree with the fact that you need a 2nd opinion. I can recommend a Dr. Visuit at Bumrungrad in BKK...he is Director of the Cardiology Department there and is a good knowledgeable Dr. He has been mentioned many times on these forums and has a good reputation as well as Bumrungrad having all the necessary facilities to get you the proper testing.

  6. Is this store open to the general public? Or, just to commercial business members?

    My question too?

I was in there tonight and got a member card by just showing my thai drivers license. Beware of one thing...this store doesnt give you a bag to carry out your goods. There are some available at the checkout counter for 11 baht each. I saw some people just leave all the things they were going to buy because bags were not supplied at the register. So the answer is yes...it is open to everyone.

  7. Bangkok Pattaya Hospital (038 259 999) has an excellent urology department.

Either Dr. Jimmuy Kongcharoen or Dr. Pornchai Chayaboon are both Board Certified and have years of experience.

Also -- should you see later posts bashing Bangkok Pattaya Hospital -- don't be put off.....

Go see either of these physicians. Do some research on the Web into your condition. Ask questions and make up your own mind as to the competence of these physicians or any physician.

For anything serious, get out of Thailand and back to your own country (depending upon where you're from). Go to Perth if you can. I have heard and seen some horror stories.

This comment is crazy, I guess you don't know that people from Oz, UK, USA etc come to Thailand for medical procedures due to the high quality at a low price, compared to these countries. i have been to Buamradguad and Bangkok Christian, both have excellent services, however Buamradguard is more expensive but much nicer, more like a 5 star hotel. My one girlfriend has a tumor removed here, in the hospital for two days private room cost was 70K, my friend's wife had a baby at Bangkok Christian in the hospital for 4 days, private room cost. 20,000. I think maybe you should consider coming to Bangkok. The government hospitals I dont trust.

That comment is crazy agreed. I also live in Pattaya but always head to Bumrungrad in BKK when I am seeking a truly qualified Dr. for something I would consider possibly serious. I dont think that most of the Dr.s at BPH are to the same calibre as Bumrungrad

  8. Okay, quick update.

Terrazzo, the Italian restaurant at the Holiday Inn on Beach Road. Menu looks good, but if you want Italian, go to Grappa or Toscana. I'd give this one a miss.

Haven't tried many new places lately, as the work schedule is INSANE these days.

I went to Just Burgers and left comments on that thread, so no need to rehash here.

Recommendations for a new place to go? May have some time this weekend to get out for a meal someplace.....

Preecha Seafood in Ban Amphur....great selection of many types of seafood and it's all live in clean tanks. Try some of the clam dishes, they cook them up with garlic and butter and some other sauces available as well.

  9. Asia Pattaya Hotel has great sea views.

Some mates stayed there in July and got rooms for 2,000 Baht but they might be more now with the high season supposedly upon us.

I think in that price range it would be hard to beat The Residence Garden...try residencegardenhotel.com and take a look. If you tell them you saw the ad on the internet..and want the flb rate it is 1399 baht per nite...52 sq.metre suite with a small kitchen and the hotel is in a great location and the pool and food are very good. It is located on Thappraya Rd. rite near 3rd Rd. overpass next to Captain Corner BBQ Restaurant..very good staff as well

  10. As I am writing this they are building a structure for seating on jomtien beach and there are booths being set up as well..looks like the jetski races but I thought that was in December. For sure a big event.

  11. If they do go out of business I think the pattaya branch would be sold to an somebody. After being at Tony's for 4 years, I would say it is a much newer, cleaner and better all around gym. It looks like there are new people signing up everyday and the gym and trainers there are for the most part busy. I hope they stay in business as I just bought a membership last week. 10k and 100 baht per year renewal..includes yoga and spinning and all classes

  12. There is an optical shop called Lens and Time in the new Central Mall. The manager is named Beer and he is a good guy and knowledgeable. I just got my high index lenses there for 2500 baht. Nice selection of frames as well.

  13. I own 4 condos for rent in Jomtien Beach Condominium. They are all fully renovated with full kitchen, adsl internet and high quality furniture. They are all currently rented but I will have one available soon. The price is 8500 baht per month. They are the nicest condos in this block at this price.Feel free to call or pm me if you have any questions

  14. I have bought a condo before from Ib Ottesen..Alan's father, and they are the most reputable people in this town you can deal with. Everything was done just as promised and the start and finish date were exactly on time. I was very happy with the whole experience. Good Luck Alan

  15. I can highly recommend what I feel is one of the best shops in town for leather sofas. I have bought 1 from them and many of my friends as well. His service and quality for the money is what I believe the best in town and I shopped everywhere.

The shop is called Ultra Lounge and it is located on the corner of Pattaya Nua(north pattaya road) and 3rd Road.Paul Ryan is the owner and his number is 089-2013512...best to call him and make an appointment to go and see him as he isnt in the shop all day. He has made alot of sofas for restaurants and hotels here as well. Feel free to mention my name to him.

    Eric

I have never visited this place on Third Road, any more information/comments?

What sort of price range are we looking at?

    Thanks.

Prices do vary based on the size of the sofa and material. He does offer a wide array of fabrics and leathers. I find his prices though much less than comparable high end sofa shops like Index,Decorum etc...I really shopped around alot before I ordered there. He also sells to alot of the better hotels and restaurants as well.

  16. I agree with the remarks about Nirun. I can recommend you look at Jomtien Beach Condominium...there are units here from 750k up depending on what building you are in and the views. There are some here that have been fully renovated and they start around 1 mill for a nice one. It is a great complex...2 beautiful pools, great security, 2 fitness centers and plenty of restaurants, laundries, massage and other shops. It is located on the beach with 24/7 taxi service. PM me if you would like more info

    Eric

  17. Go to see an endodontist(root canal specialist) at Dental Hospital Bangkok....located on Sukhumvit 49...dentalhospitalbangkok.com...they have great dentists there and an endodontist on staff as well as a prosthodontist(crown&bridge) specialist. They should be able to sort out your problem. Not the cheapest but always quality work. With something like you have I wouldnt let money be the deciding factor....best to find good quality work
