I live in Chaiyaphum and cannot find workers to work for 500 baht a day on the farm so I do all the work myself. I brought a tractor and slasher to cut the grass, a posthole borer for the fencinig and spray packs for spraying. we only have 2 Rai but now I do not rely on anyone else.

Working on your wife 's farm is a faint but real risk. I did it for 5 1/2 years and never got caught out mowing drainlaying all sorts of things including painting, lots of painting and some carpentry and house modifications. In different parts of Thailand the attitude is different when it comes to finding people to work on your property. I know that in much of the North, people are lining up for jobs apparently but where we were living. It was difficult to find any workers skilled or not. Nobody would work for under $500 today and even providing a house with electricity waste and rice did not improve our chances. Too many factories around and anyone not employed in a factory is either a alcoholic, drug addict or a criminal risk There was no option but for me to do it but now I've returned to my Home Country and don't have to worry about it.  It is also true that if your family in LOS have good relationships with everybody around the risk is very small. But if you family have some local feuds going on then I guess it's  "watch out."

Can you blame them, the esteemed advice on TVF has been to dig out existing reservoirs, make them bigger, deeper, if they had followed this advice they would have wasted billions of Baht and ended up with even emptier holes than they have now ????

Not necessarily.  Rain patterns and therefore the benefits of local storage vary in parts of Thailand.  In our part of Chonburi, ( a few k's inland from Phanat Nikhom) our slight rise in ground levels mean only one in every few storms ever reached us.  I have heard and watched thunderstorms many times that never came to our exact locale.  People only a k or so away getting huge rainfall and frequently a line across the highway where the rain stopped.  I have frequently been soaked in our local commercial centre and come home to a line across the highway and no rain at home that day at all.

It will be exponentially spreading now if the incubation period really is 10 to 14 days from the initial cases in Mae Sai and Maha Chai.

Incubation period, I understand can be a short as 2-4 days and usually much shorter than 10 to 14 days, other wises a "fit to fly" certificate would not be limited in most cases to 72 hours, max.   Apart from that, the stable door is open the horse probably fled, especially now that wild animals and pets are apparently testing positive.   Wear a mask.  Sanitise and practice appropriate social distancing.  Especially in massage parlours or bars, or anywhere we filthy Farangs tend to congregate.

Thank you  champers.    I will try to find it.

Anyone else have some thoughts on canal travel in Bangkok?

Did it one out of curiosity some years ago.  Lots of unkempt back yards & substandard architecture depending on water level/time of day re tides & river levels.  Interesting at first but how many does one need to see?  But glad I did it or it would have remained an unticked bucket list item

    Will it play MP3 ?

Yes providing you have the correct software in it.  ThIs is als available free (Google Play)and most smartphones will have it in the factory O.S., as bought.  Ask at the shop.  If the phone will hold a separate S.D card you can put an almost unlimited amount of music on it.   A good walkman product will have better sound production than a cheap phone but this is purely subjective.  I have a 10 year old pink Samsung player and it is outstanding.

cases vs deaths tells a different story. even taking into considering the massive increase in cases it has been a month since the *second wave* started the death rate is not following the same jump. not even close.

the huge increase in cases has not resulted in a huge number of deaths. as it stands the first wave was way deadlier than the current one.

    time will tell.

Britain has reported 46,717 COVID-19 deaths - defined as those dying within 28 days of a positive test.  Yes wait for the fat lady to sing.  The Oprey ain't over yet, unfortunately.

You can get electric showers all over the world with power up to 8 or 9 kWatts. That will heat the water, and your electricity bill as well.

But depending on how much you use hot water, whether it is cheaper than storing 30 or 40 gallons of hot water at close to boiling point 24/7.  Usually it will be cheaper because it only supplies one shower  head and not kitchen sinks, baths  or hand basins

I am sure it is working for you but I started having slight blood pressure problems in L.O.S. and when I realized that all my medical cover expired at 80 years  I lost confidence and returned home.  Thai wife returned here with me and is very glad we made the move.  I belong to a country with 1st class free medical service facilities for Citizens and P.R's.

P.S.  I belong to a family who mostly live to 80 -90 plus.

I do not post much just read a lot. For me it was easy, wife purchased the land in a housing project 35 years ago. We had the house build 30 years ago, I retired and we moved to Thailand and the house was move in ready one month later. Pay cash for western style house, large kitchen, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and maids room with bathroom and with large outside cooking, 2 store high building. Remodeled 2 times adding more room to two bedrooms upstairs. Real good location East end and do not need to go to city center for anything.  Total cost 4.5 mil  baht. No bills, good monthly pension, real good health insurance,  lost of savings both here and back in the US. Married 40 years, life is good.

What's your top advice for buying a house in Thailand?

Don’t spend any more money than you can afford to lose.

And factor possible air-B&B issues into the mix.   The behaviour of some condo owners and managers have made life hell for a number of people.   Imagine the condo on either side of yours being rented to 10 lager louts at a time and changing tenants every week or so, without even considering the inconvenience of using shared facilities like pools & gyms.    Rent is still better in Thailand.  It puts a ceiling on how much you have to lose.  Also read all the  advice about problems with quaisi-legal 51% Thai partner deals, lawyers or not....

I see a web of tangle lies will be unfolding soon especially with this little nugget.

"China will continue to suspend outbound group tours and ban travel agencies from allowing inbound tours due to the risk of a resurgence in coronavirus cases this winter, authorities said.  The country's Ministry of Culture and Tourism made the announcement in a notice published on its website on Wednesday"

Can someone help the Thai Government understand that other countries are still not cooperating as they say they are.  Can someone explain to me who these 39 Chinese tourists really are? or, are they just really a new set of possible new diplomatic staff that have come to conduct an annual change at the end of the year in the Chinese embassy.  However, before stepping into place they get a free vacation first, just a few thoughts off the top of my head..

A very interesting suggestions. It will be interesting to see how much news we hear about these tourist people doing touristy things after their 2 weeks in isolation
