Reports are that immigration will fine for overstay.
Could you please provide a link to such a report?
-
Are you sure? My entry to the country and it's length is determined by the immigration officer. Can I be really charged for overstay if I haven't overstayed the period that I was granted?
(15 days and 30 days aren't laws, they are internal instructions within the Immigration Department. They are designated for the immigration officers, and I'm not required to know them, but to follow them.)
For example, if I'm a citizen of G7, and I would be granted 15 days instead of 30 days, and I wouldn't fix it and would stay for 30 days, certainly that would be an overstay.

The last year I think it was from 12-to-15, if I'm not mistaken. The intensity was ok, not too much, not too little. A lot of cars from Udon Thani came to make a round here.
I also wonder, what are the dates for this year?
-
I see it in the same way. I was also thinking, could it be that Israel got added to the list of the countries that get 30-days over land borders, and we just don't know it?
We have a relatively large number of people from Thailand who are working in Israel mostly in agriculture sector, perhaps that could be a reason, or any other reason.
-
Well, I'll be leaving via a land border, sometimes it's rushy, sometimes it is not. I understand that the chances it will be noticed are not high. I just wanted to get a second opinion on a what might happen if it will be noticed. A likely scenario.
I'm not overly anxious about it, just would like to hear opinions.
-
Well, I'm wondering if I won't get it corrected, will in your opinion the immigration charge me for overstay in case they will notice it?
-
Nice one .

I'm an Israeli and two days ago I came from Laos to Thailand and I was stamped 30 days. I couldn't find anywhere that Israel is included for the new 30 days over land entry rule, so I assume the immigration officer might have been mistaken?
Will I be getting into troubles when I'll exit Thailand? Like to be charged 500baht for every day beyond 15 days?

Agree, why to call it a curse?
Absolutely natural thing. It has been in this world since the days of creation. So like in Myanmar it's a curse, but in any other country in the world it's not. Hehe
I think what they are implying is that the sex trade is a curse, due to the many shady and even dangerous elements that go along with it. Other countries, very much open to mass tourism, such as Laos and Vietnam have largely been able to prevent a large scale sex industry from emerging unlike in the case of Thailand. This has resulted in some strange laws being applied, some of which may seem discriminatory, but overall they have managed to avoid being associated with sex unlike Thailand.
I wouldn't say that Laos failed in this aspect. It is just that it is less centralized, the beer shops with girls are scattered all around the country. But though Lao population is smaller than Thai's, in could have rather a similar percentage of working girls.
What Laws do you have in mind?
Regarding the shady/dangerous elements, it might not be so. The very pimps, mamasans, and other people involved are in many cases are not aggressive, bad or violent. Majority of the working girls consider it just a job either, they are not considering themselves victims, and take it easy. When a girl is married or staying with a bf, she does it free. So many girls consider themselves "as clever", because she gets money for what otherwise would be free.
Other girls get in the trade because of their elder sisters, or friends who are already in the job. They mostly get the situation normally too.
What I'm saying is according to my experience in Laos. The situation could be different in Mnyanmar.
For example, in Cambodia, where mothers used to/are selling their virgin daughters everything might be more rough. But in Laos I haven't observed such situations. (Not that I assume there aren't - it is just I never seen, so perhaps could be in isolated cases.)

I have found a place where one can download or stream it, and what's more, it's hard subbed in English. The streaming seems to be optimized for 16:9 computer screens, so looks weird on 4:3.
Anyway, it's also a great way to learn/improve your Thai language abilities, picking up some slang words and idioms.
Would be great if someone could also soft-dubbed it with Thai language, as sometimes it's difficult to understand what they are saying in Thai.

Simon, have you got FB or some way of contacting you? Please PM me.

Once is more than enough of these pathetic shows .
Have you seen it?
I myself have never been a fan of soap operas and watched them real rarely, the last being 3-4 years ago. That's being said, this one has captured my attention and now it's my trip to hug with my gf and watch it for two hours.
Some scenes are really inspirational and moving, I like the songs too.

Simon, you are an interesting fellow. Are you now in Lao?
May I suggest you to use kproxy if you will ever face problems of connecting to anything? They have a free server and also a payable one. I guess it's faster than TOR.

I like the previous post !!! :)
Having said that, a site that promotes friendship with western men would have more success as another poster have said. And if to find a way how to attract the educated modern burmese girls who speak English.. Now, DagonKhan, what do you think, what are those girls are seeking?
Do they want a marriage with a burmese guy and life in Mnyanmar, or a westerner and possibly going abroad?

On channel 7 there is this nice soap-opera ซินเดอเรลล่ารองเท้าแตะ of Cinderella with Thai twists. It seems they all need to go to Sweden and Han, Bea, Chai and Nut to form a Swedish family . Anyway, it is running Wed/Thurs 20.25. Are there any re-runs?

Hehe, 5 US cents that's around 400kip in Laos. Currently, in Laos the calls are 800kip/min, unless you subscribe for a montly package costing 25,000kip and then receive 300kip/min rates.
So it seems that Burmese prices are actually already cheaper .

How is it going on now?
BTW: Left you a PM. -
Nice saga . Is the new phone working flawlessly now? How about the photos in the old one?
I do advise you to get your photos automatically uploaded to a private album on Google+.
I do hope that I have inspired you a bit to be more daring in demanding and hope your daughter is happy now.
Yes thanks for the moral support . I have been reminded that it still does work to get angry now and then . The moment that really puled the trigger was when the guy at HTC told me (after 3 weeks of no news) that everybody had to wait, not only me. That was too much.
Phone is working well. Its new, it better be!! Unfortunately photos are lost but my daughter is very happy again!
Will certainly investigate the Google+ option.
Hehe, well, I don't think that getting angry is a good idea, though I'm still undecided about this, however polite threatening maybe the right course of action .

Complaining to TCP can be done concurrent to waiting.
I'm amused a bit that you are so tolerant . It seems you given up on photos too. But my inner feeling tells me you will get back your phone repaired before or on the day they have promised and your photos will be safe. However, do inform them that there is a content and if possible they won't perform a system reinitialization that would remove those dear photos from your trip.
Don't get me wrong, I am not tolerant at all just a bit restricted in my actions since I have to rely on others to chase for me since I am not Thai and the people at HTC always play dumb when I try to talk to them in English.
My office staff just called the call center and told them that they have to give back the phone next week (as earlier promised). They said that because there was a long waiting cue, they could not promise that.... We asked their address to file complaints (send a letter) and they told us they were not allowed to say where their office is. If we wanted to complain we had to do it by e-mail.
After a long argument, the lady promised to give us an update later today.
If they call back and give us a later date than next week, we will not accept the phone anymore. We are going to make that very clear.
Will keep you posted.
Nobody called back on that day (Aug 27) so I called them around 6 PM in the evening. The guy told me the same story, waiting for a new screen from Taiwan and he couldn't tell me when the phone would be ready. I got very angry and told him that this was unacceptable to give an "update" like that after I had been waiting for 3 weeks. I told him I would wait 1 more week (total 4 weeks) and if still not finished I wouldn't pick up the phone anymore and would start fighting to get my money.
Just gave them a call and guess what, the phone had been ready since Aug 30 but they forgot to call me... Anyhow the good news is that it's ready (and working properly I hope).
I will pick it up asap and will let you guys know whether or not I lost all data. Which, again, will be strange because only the screen was broken.
Interesting. So how is it now?

To TCP I have successfully complained in English.

Well, there are lawyers that are speaking impeccable English.
Please do keep me posted.

I would agree with you generally. However, how far one has to investigate to find out that what is stamped in a passport is correct?
What I mean is, Ubonjoe said there are no official news that it is in effect. In reality, it is indeed in effect. But, due to lack of official news, it's not possible to be absolutely sure what countries are indeed in the list. It could be G7 plus a few other countries, Israel one of them for example.
Was there anyone with an israeli passport who came overland and received 15 days since March 13 of this year?
And, another consideration: "This will not apply to the first arrival in Thailand, whether by land or air, but will apply for subsequent arrivals by road or rail." I have come with a new, recently issued passport. Could that be the reason for 30 days?
In this case, "first arrival in Thailand" - how should it be seen? Per passport, per life or per specified period of time?
Would be glad towards your reply.
