Apart from the rise in emissions, the car industry could do well to look at research and actual progress in the case of airliners.
Within 2 years, some 600 airliners will be fitted with dual motors, which will switch to electric immediately on touchdown, thus reducing airport pollution dramatically, and overall fuel bills by an initial 5%
There is no reason why vehicles using designated city areas, could not be compelled to switch to an auxiliary electric motor, thus reducing emissions to almost zero. Those that refuse or cannot afford to comply, will have to resort to Park and Ride. Soon, there will be no options! Cost is determined by uptake, so mass production would reduce the purchase price of such vehicles or adaptations, to an acceptable level !

Right motive, wrong place!

As Medic, it would take me back to my Dissecting Room days!
Good idea to make anyone causing a road death, especially through drink-driving, be forced to watch. Could be a very salutary lesson indeed !

If you still have a valid address you can use in the U.K, some prefer to draw their pension there. At least you still get the increments which are so unfairly disallowed if you draw your pension overseas!

It is not really fair to compare the U.K healthcare system with Thailand, which is still a developing country.
Having said that, I agree with your correspondent who questions the aptitude of anyone working in this sector, who is happy to turn away a real emergency purely on the basis of money. However it happens with monotonous regularity in the U.S. which is why Obama is having so much trouble, trying to make his new healthcare law stick over there!

It is a fascinating dilemma!
Less marked at University where I work part time, but even with Thais who have lived and worked abroad, including the U.S. they still revert to inbred and innate Thai reactions, which can catch even the most astute of us unawares !

Your correspondents are right!
A farang particularly could not and should not take a child however close, without the parents express agreement!

Well, one additional airport seems that it will never see the light of day, is on Koh Phangan. The ill fated runway half way up the mountainside, seems doomed to never have a single landing there!

Those who are determined to obtain such drugs, will do so anyway. Changing the rules will not affect them, just as banning guns in the U.K or the U.S has not stopped freak killing sprees by a deranged gunman !

One of the main problems, on Samui anyway, is that rental is now based on production of a passport, NOT a driving licence. Renters may never have ridden a motorbike in their lives, yet can drive off without a care in the world, at least until they have an accident!

Yes, the bloke with the dog certainly was Pavlov!
I think moving to Thailand could involve a move up the pyramid, but would it be the same sized pyramid as back home?

If you like the area around Loei, I would suggest that you go a little further North to Chiang Khan, on the banks of the Mekong. A really beautiful pollution free rustic village with all amenities!

Presumably just one more example of the stupidity of the visa system, in a country that thrives on tourism, yet makes visa complications with impunity!
I assume this particular visa run qualifies for a 30 day visa rather than the 14 day road or sea run?

One may never know what Thai neighbours think deep down, but if they react with a smile, at least I would prefer that to total disdain!

Wearing gold discreetly can be superb! Wearing it brazenly can at times appear vulgar. Gold is 'de rigeur' the first demand of any bar girl who agrees to 'go out' with a farang, whether it be a necklace or bracelet. The amusing part is that as soon as it is received, the girl in question rushes off to a jeweller to get the value and carat appraised!

Unfortunately Thailand is no exception for con men. Some of the worst emanate out of Nigeria, where their own Embassy warn of their own nationa'ls activities. In some cases, fraud is actually taught in some unscrupulous Colleges, where typical formats are handed out, with details of genuine accidents, whether an air crash or road accident. The facts can be checked on in past newspapers or T.V coverage, but just the names are changed. The dead 'relatives' supposedly left large sums of untouched money in a bank account in Nigeria or a neighbouring country, which can only be accessed by their taking on a foreign partner, who will allegedly receive a generous percentage of the millions of dollars at stake. Invariably there are lawyers and transfer fees to pay up front, before the surviving 'relative' disappears into the sunset !

I cannot believe that this topic is being used to highlight an obstacle to full integration into ASEAN in 2015!
So many countries in the region do actually drive on the left, including Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and of course India, now officially the most populous country in the world ! And why on earth would engines have to be changed over if someone from Laos or Cambodia drives on the right there?
As someone who regularly drives in countries who drive both on the left and the right, I cannot understand what the Minister is talking about. I returned from France yesterday, where I drive a left hand or right hand drive car on the right side of the road, and found no trouble whatever. My engine certainly was not affected !

Nepotism does indeed lead to a distortion in politics.!
There is a long way to go in Thailand before things will change for the better.
A P-M and 'leader for the people' is only to be dreamed of !

I agree with most of your correspondents! Always ask the price or fare first. Taxi meters are not always put on, so all the more important to check first!
-
There are even some free tourist postcards around, that sport an excellent recipe for a Massaman curry. Any outlet that has a rack of free take-away postcards!

Ask some Thais you can trust, as to what might succeed !
Ask some people at the University at the business School ! They will guide you !

It's experience and ability that win through in the end !
No upper age limit and even a 20 year old can succeed if motivated enough !

Make sure that you have a recognised TEFL qualification, then try teaching in Koh Samui, where there is a high level of need fore good teachers!

Not the way to react!
Tolerance in some directions, and complete intolerance in others! What a minefield !
