Living in Thailand can be easier and more enjoyable, if only one obeys the rules, which are not and cannot be the same as back home, whether that is the U.K, U.S or anywhere in Europe. As Julia Gillard said in Australia, 'if you don't like the system here, then don't plan to come in the first place!'

Great to hear that Suvarnabhumi is safe, but what about Don Mueang, which suffered so badly last time round?
-
Difficult to implement in this fast moving mobile world we live in now!

Every thinking person knows the scheme was flawed right from the beginning. As so many correspondents have stated, accepting a loss of face now, is not a Thai way of doing things, so the debacle will continue !
-
Xenophobia and racism are totally different. Thais are far more open about many matters, whether it relates to money, personal details or similar, without batting an eyelid! It is a different culture, after all !

Definitely talk to a lawyer who specializes in these kinds of issues - not just an ordinary practitioner.
-
One other possibility is to talk to people at some of the MLM companies, such as Amway, or the newly licensed Neways in their fabulous offices in the Cyberworld Tower.
You can easily become a Distributor and start working that way, gently and gradually.

Sounds like a total minefield to me!
Negotiation and trust seem to be needed in buckets !

Tragic indeed, but the age old reaction to stop any possible looting, can result in a far greater tragedy.

Let's hope that the baht stabilizes now against other major currencies. The recent yo-yo movements, do nobody any good!
-
Well, at least the most imminent threat now seems to have passed!

Reading these indictments makes me very sad, but I shall be much more wary in future. Thanks for the warnings.
-
Very sad indeed, but at least let's wait for the official Accident Report.

Sense versus emotion!
Get a lawyer, and send a letter giving your 30 day notice, and discuss with him your rights about the aircon. Send his advice on to her in Thai. Very tempting to remove it, but you may be worried about the relatives in the police nearby!

I read a recent Report that stated that 47% of the world's population had no phone of any kind !

2 entries, 2 extensions possible !

I would recommend setting up a Thai company. If you start with a 2,000,000 baht authorised capital, not paid up, this entitles you to one work permit, which is all you need. I don't believe in more restrictions or red tape than is utterly necessary !

Ayutthaya is easily reached in the day from BKK and back, so no need to book hotels there!
Sukothai and Chiang Mai are different. I advise booking at least one day ahead via the Internet, such as through Agoda, in order to get the best prices. It is always possible to get one's hotel or a person in BKK to do this for them. Just turning up at a hotel is not a good or economical way of going about finding a reasonable rate ! Don't forget to include the incredible White Temple at Chiang Rai in the itinerary!

Some very sensible replies.
I have encountered no problems driving from Pagan to Yangon. There are killings everyday in Thailand in the South, but they are not reported, for fear of adversely affecting the tourist trade!

Although I am based in the U.K some of the year, I was recently asked to fly to Brisbane from Samui to attend a skin cancer patient. I had not been for 2-3 years previously, and was absolutely horrified at the prices in the local shop. Have salaries really risen by the same amount?

Could the BMA import some experts from Holland , to advise on water disposal in and around the Capital?

Surely histamine would only pose a problem if these fried bugs are eaten in large quantities?
In my experience they are usually consumed as a 'starter' or even a delicacy in some parts, followed by a main course of some sorts!

It does seem to be a rural problem much more than a City problem.
This is the Thai way, and we are in Thailand!

Go North a little and visit Sri Racha Tiger sanctuary!
Embrace a tiger in the flesh - one of the few places in the world you can do that, and it is an unique experience, I assure you!
