  1. best advise i can give anyone. never ever use DHL or FEDEX for anything in thailand. they are an absolute disgrace and i have tried them many times to confirm this. if you ask me they do not even remotely come close to Western standards and just hijacked the name, they dont know the meaning of express service ive had them hijack parcels for weeks unless i pay their absolute fabricated tax rip offs.

They work with customs to rip everyone off... they will tell you they paid tax on your behalf and now you need to pay fedex to get them to deliver your item. except the tax calculations compared to correct actual HS Codes and tariffs will be complete <deleted>.... use the post office instead... whilst not fool proof its 1000 times better than these fraudulent fedex and dhl companies in Thailand. I hope to see them banned or removed from Thailand soon if more people complain to the HQ sources back home.

  2. my opinion: stay far away from the Thai medical system and stick with the elite and get private health insurance instead.
As for the person saying elite visa costs 50k a year i believe its actually 100k a year, unless something has changed?
Its a shame Thailand desperately tries to change for the better but everytime they seem to shoot themselves in the foot by trying to recreate the wheel or by trying to be clever. far to much beurocracy these days. The worst attempt ive seen yet is the new changes the gov has made to imports, taxes, license per invoice, customs. many business now are collapsing due to the ever increasing pedantic rules and regulations. this is no different in my book...

  3. hmm interesting i wish there was a dedicated forum for english speaking crypto traders over here, it certainly is a bit of a mine field and more reliable peoples opinions and experience are needed.

i for one am a bit concerned about BX.in th

Im not that convinced about how long they are going to stay open since India, china, s korea, bali are all trying to scare crypto traders away.
HAving said that thailand did ban and then life the ban on crypto trading a few years back, but that means nothing as they are always changing what they say and do.
Also BX.in.th is quite primitive in regards to trading, they dont even have stop losses or alarms on their charts. and they did a server update during during the day time on a friday when bitcoin was going through one of its biggest moves. it was absolutely ludicrous as the update was supposed to be scheduled at 8am and went on all day. who does server updates in the daytime on a friday?
i really hope BX they start to improve their front end and keep it going despite the tough stance this year thats coming. they also have very limited instructions on the site and it just feels amateurish still. i dont see any improvements or planned improvements either.

  4. hmmm well in my 15 years experience and jaded opinion, there is still very little difference between them both.
I remember meeting one of the nicest genuine Thai girls I have ever met quite recently infact. There were feelings of 'wow she is really something, has her own business, not lazy, own car, big dreams, positive attitude, everyone likes her, well spoken, caring, buys me little treats and snacks, not super jealous'' wow I thought, after meeting hundreds of Thai women I really thought, this one is really something. you know the type that just brings out the best in you?

Fast forward a few months and still there she is, playing all the right moves, busy with her business, still caring and buying me little treats, being romantic and looking at me with those big loving eyes. wow I thought.... should I put a ring on it?

Then like clockwork during a trip back home alone to my home country and her fearing I may not return back to Thailand for a few months, oh she says im expanding my business. I just need 300,000 baht can you help me out?

Sure I said... then I proceeded to block her and delete all contact with her permanently and bang my head against the wall...

Id like to just add that after 15 very long years living here and thinking im bullet proof to Thai BS and their little games, even I was almost duped that time. and that was not even a creature of the night... goodluck all the odds are stacked high

  5. have to agree the bubble in Bangkok property  prices seems way over priced these days. I have also made this mistake buying condos in pattaya when the market was doing great only to find it collapse afterwards, the places where people say its a good investment like silom or thonglor yes prices stay high and increase quite well. problem is its very expensive to invest in these areas and you may as well buy bitcoin instead, same risk but more possibility for reward,

  6. quite a few English Speaking salons in Bangkok these days I think you will find, just give them a call and see if they sound proficient or not.

Here are a few I have been to and can recommend.

    Savanna Salon - ploenchit

    Zenred Salon - Rama 3
    Zahara Salon - Sukumvit 13

  7. If you are thinking about going pastel pink then be prepared for lots of bleaching first. There are a few salons in Bangkok when it comes to bleaching, fashion colors and English speaking stylists you can try.

This bangkok salon has been around for a long time working with Westerners and expats, infact i think it was the first, Its in Rama 3 and they are really good.

     Zenred Hair Salon Bangkok

    Tel: 0836006176

Personally i would go for salons that have lots of experience working with Western clients or specialize in them and use the correct products. Here are some others i can vouch for and have tried myself which i was very happy with. This one is next to BTS Nana.

    Zahara Salon Bangkok Sukhumvit

    Tel: 0618452133

check the photos out of their work and choose the best one with decent reviews and contact them via facebook. Then go with the one who replies the most professionally and honest. Here is another good one next to Ploenchit BTS.

Savanna Nail & Hair Salon Bangkok

    Tel: 0945488826

all of the above a decent salons with English speaking stylists that can work with Western styles. I have used them all in the past without complaints. Goodluck!

at the end of the day you will get what you pay for, if you want the best in a place like bangkok where options are limited and people are not always the most honest. Then dont go for the cheapest...

  8. we need an update to this topic for 2017
I never in all my years in thailand had any problems sending occassional money back home. until this year!
Flat out refused in every branch i went, and not just refused but treated like im a criminal just for asking.
No i dont have a work permit because i dont work for a thai company, im a stock trader that works for myself and have an elite Visa...
Did they care? nope... they found it almost unheard of and couldnt grasp the concept of working internationally.

So, armed with some FET forms i proceeded to try and move money back
    guess what - another no...

I tried the place in Soi 5, honestly the WORST cut I have ever had.  The 120 baht barber I used to use at times in Phuket used to do a far better job.  Not sure if Haircut II has the same owner / staff as before or what but there were two women there when I went, one in her 20-30s and one around mid-40s.  Seems she was the only one cutting hair.  More interested in talking about her recent dating exploits than paying attention to cutting.  Most of the cut done with clippers, zero scissor skills.  Small, not particularly clean shop.  300 baht just for a cut.  Absolute CRAP!  Never again.

Time after that, tried Big Cut in MBK on 4th floor near the banking plaza.  Not too bad and WAAAY better than Soi 5.  Even washed your hair twice.  If I go there again I might see if they have senior stylists that specialise more in mens hair.  200 baht.

    Next time I'll try Zahara's.

Not keen on paying 1,200 for ambience and a range of whisky.  Just a good haircut will do, even if it's 4-500 baht.  Had a FANTASTIC place in Chiang Mai called The Cutler.  Nearly an hour each time, highly attentive and careful service.  Of course CM is cheaper than BKK but not found anything even close here yet that doesn't want 1,200 - 1,500 plus for the same service, so it's been 30 baht salons charging 2-300.  Not impressed so far.

    Zahara Salon in Sukhumvit 13

Its a great salon in my book too, very popular with the expat ladies but also quite a few expat blokes ive met in there over the years.

its really not far from Cheap Charlies (soon to be gone forever) just walk across the road and cut through Villa market Precinct. You will have to walk past that seedy area of massage shops but just keep walking straight and straight again until you come to sukumvit 13. then turn your head right and look up. Zahara Salon  is on the second floor with some green stairs going upto it and table and chairs outside to sit and drink coffee or smoke.

If you are thinking to go i would consider booking an appointment with them or book online via their Facebook page. They are a busy salon and if you just walk in you maybe waiting quite a while. i did once and wont do that again.

You will know the difference between a professional salon and your average  Thai salon when you walk in the door and they are all sitting around sleeping or playing on their phones eating somtam, The girls at Zahara have always been very good looking, well presented and serious about my well being and the other customers, for that particular area its sometimes hard to find.

How long does it take to have a haircut?, well i think it depends.. i have really difficult hair to cut which is why i try to find only decent salons that can speak basic english, but seem to have a lot of other westerners going there.

Cutting curly western hair like mine is not easy and so many times ive ended up looking ridiculous. so its great when you find somewhere that speak english and reassure me that they have done hair like mine thousands of times before. My haircuts take around 30-60 minutes with, wash, blowdry and style. also depends on how busy they are i guess.. goodluck!

  10. Another good option in that area (i think i may have mentioned this before) Savanna Nail & hair Salon Bangkok and only a short 5 minute walk from Nana or just hop on the BTS to Ploenchit and its in mahatun plaza on the left side. Just get off the Ploenchit skytrain on same side as Mahatun and walk back. Literally a minute from Novatel ploenchit. And just a few doors down from osito restaurant (Great place for Spanish food and Mexican by the way, there is also a Whisgars bar there worth checking out)
The main man/stylist there does a fantastic mens hair cut for 450 baht, or for ladies 550 baht. Its not a barber shop so best not to expect the hot shaves  or Thai barber prices, but if you have that specific style you want from a magazine or the latest hipster trend, its that kinda place where he will do it and do it perfectly, without having to pay over 1000 baht as you will do in MBK or Emporium or listen to excuses as to why you now look like Smegal from lord of the rings.

They speak pretty good English and there also seems to be a lot of expat women whenever i have been there too.

  11. 2 really good professional level english speaking International salons in Nana, both really easy to find.

    1. Zahara salon Sukhumvit Nana 13  (opposite Trendy Office Building on Second Floor) some lovely girls here that can cut any style or hair texture. English speaking, lots of Expats go here. My advise, call ahead a day or so before as it gets very busy with lots of very good looking Western women ;)

    Tel: 0836006176

    2. Savanna salon ploenchit Bangkok (Mahatun plaza, very close to the BTS and just 1 stop from Nana, although its a short walk from soi 4) English speaking guy stylist here does some amazing hair cuts. I stumbled upon the place going to Osito restaurant which is just a few doors up. Again call ahead to make a booking just incase.

    Tel: 0945488826

Prices for a haircut in Bangkok varies a lot from 80 baht at a Barbers to 1200 at a swanky mall. I myself have quite a full head of really thick curly hair, and a typical barbers cut Thai style does not do me any favors (although they are fantastic value) I need a personal stylist that understands how to cut textured hair with layers and yada yada. I also want a stylist that can make me look younger and ensure i get complients on my hair rather than just shorter hair. Therefore i am fine with paying 450 baht at any of the above places, although it is a lot more expensive if you go to salons in Siam or emporium and ask for the same thing and they dont do a better job or speak better english in my experience.

If you have a particular style you like, perhaps one of the more modern hipster cuts popular back home, just show a photo to any of the above 2 salons and i guarantee they will pull it off without any ummmmms Or blank stares...
