Hey camble, is that the one right across the lane from Cheap Charlie's ?
On 3/17/2017 at 7:58 AM, SooKee said:I tried the place in Soi 5, honestly the WORST cut I have ever had. The 120 baht barber I used to use at times in Phuket used to do a far better job. Not sure if Haircut II has the same owner / staff as before or what but there were two women there when I went, one in her 20-30s and one around mid-40s. Seems she was the only one cutting hair. More interested in talking about her recent dating exploits than paying attention to cutting. Most of the cut done with clippers, zero scissor skills. Small, not particularly clean shop. 300 baht just for a cut. Absolute CRAP! Never again.
Time after that, tried Big Cut in MBK on 4th floor near the banking plaza. Not too bad and WAAAY better than Soi 5. Even washed your hair twice. If I go there again I might see if they have senior stylists that specialise more in mens hair. 200 baht.
Next time I'll try Zahara's.
Not keen on paying 1,200 for ambience and a range of whisky. Just a good haircut will do, even if it's 4-500 baht. Had a FANTASTIC place in Chiang Mai called The Cutler. Nearly an hour each time, highly attentive and careful service. Of course CM is cheaper than BKK but not found anything even close here yet that doesn't want 1,200 - 1,500 plus for the same service, so it's been 30 baht salons charging 2-300. Not impressed so far.
Zahara Salon in Sukhumvit 13
www.zaharasalonbangkok.com
Its a great salon in my book too, very popular with the expat ladies but also quite a few expat blokes ive met in there over the years.
its really not far from Cheap Charlies (soon to be gone forever) just walk across the road and cut through Villa market Precinct. You will have to walk past that seedy area of massage shops but just keep walking straight and straight again until you come to sukumvit 13. then turn your head right and look up. Zahara Salon is on the second floor with some green stairs going upto it and table and chairs outside to sit and drink coffee or smoke.
If you are thinking to go i would consider booking an appointment with them or book online via their Facebook page. They are a busy salon and if you just walk in you maybe waiting quite a while. i did once and wont do that again.
You will know the difference between a professional salon and your average Thai salon when you walk in the door and they are all sitting around sleeping or playing on their phones eating somtam, The girls at Zahara have always been very good looking, well presented and serious about my well being and the other customers, for that particular area its sometimes hard to find.
How long does it take to have a haircut?, well i think it depends.. i have really difficult hair to cut which is why i try to find only decent salons that can speak basic english, but seem to have a lot of other westerners going there.
Cutting curly western hair like mine is not easy and so many times ive ended up looking ridiculous. so its great when you find somewhere that speak english and reassure me that they have done hair like mine thousands of times before. My haircuts take around 30-60 minutes with, wash, blowdry and style. also depends on how busy they are i guess.. goodluck!-

Another good option in that area (i think i may have mentioned this before) Savanna Nail & hair Salon Bangkok and only a short 5 minute walk from Nana or just hop on the BTS to Ploenchit and its in mahatun plaza on the left side. Just get off the Ploenchit skytrain on same side as Mahatun and walk back. Literally a minute from Novatel ploenchit. And just a few doors down from osito restaurant (Great place for Spanish food and Mexican by the way, there is also a Whisgars bar there worth checking out)
The main man/stylist there does a fantastic mens hair cut for 450 baht, or for ladies 550 baht. Its not a barber shop so best not to expect the hot shaves or Thai barber prices, but if you have that specific style you want from a magazine or the latest hipster trend, its that kinda place where he will do it and do it perfectly, without having to pay over 1000 baht as you will do in MBK or Emporium or listen to excuses as to why you now look like Smegal from lord of the rings.

They speak pretty good English and there also seems to be a lot of expat women whenever i have been there too.

2 really good professional level english speaking International salons in Nana, both really easy to find.
1. Zahara salon Sukhumvit Nana 13 (opposite Trendy Office Building on Second Floor) some lovely girls here that can cut any style or hair texture. English speaking, lots of Expats go here. My advise, call ahead a day or so before as it gets very busy with lots of very good looking Western women
Tel: 0836006176
2. Savanna salon ploenchit Bangkok (Mahatun plaza, very close to the BTS and just 1 stop from Nana, although its a short walk from soi 4) English speaking guy stylist here does some amazing hair cuts. I stumbled upon the place going to Osito restaurant which is just a few doors up. Again call ahead to make a booking just incase.
Tel: 0945488826
Prices for a haircut in Bangkok varies a lot from 80 baht at a Barbers to 1200 at a swanky mall. I myself have quite a full head of really thick curly hair, and a typical barbers cut Thai style does not do me any favors (although they are fantastic value) I need a personal stylist that understands how to cut textured hair with layers and yada yada. I also want a stylist that can make me look younger and ensure i get complients on my hair rather than just shorter hair. Therefore i am fine with paying 450 baht at any of the above places, although it is a lot more expensive if you go to salons in Siam or emporium and ask for the same thing and they dont do a better job or speak better english in my experience.
If you have a particular style you like, perhaps one of the more modern hipster cuts popular back home, just show a photo to any of the above 2 salons and i guarantee they will pull it off without any ummmmms Or blank stares...

and in 2017 you will be under even more strutiny at the banks... no work permit even if you have an FET they will make you feel like a criminal... and in my case say no for 5 different banks now. before the new year was no problem at all and just smiling staff. now i would seriously keep as much money and cash out of Thai banks as possible,...

Quick Question: You say you want to "import from Europe" and sell the products
in Thailand on-line.
My pee-brain experience (and my wife tells me this) is that Thai people do NOT
like to buy products on-line (in Thailand), due to delivery and post office issues.
Assume My Wife Goes On-Line To Buy Your Product:
+ Web site in Thai?
+ Collect money on-line?
+ Delivery by courier or postman?
+ She have to pick-up at Post Office.
+ What about possible returns?
+ Is your product expirable? What is the "shelf life".
+ Many, many logistical things to consider. Think of them all!
I import from Thailand and sell on USA EBay and Amazon.
I can't imagine doing what you are thinking of doing.
Best of much luck to you.
I wish for your success.
tell your wife to check out LAZADA - times are changing!

If you have a business account in Thailand thats great, it also means you have a work permit and income and pay tax. So moving money out shouldn't be a problem at all as you are allowed to transfer out 80% of your yearly income! Also you have accountants looking after every single baht incoming and out going so if anything does go astray, its protected,.
personal banking in Thailand i can assure you, is not without risks. 11 years ago 30k went missing from my SCB account. I traced it to a bank in Bangna that i had never been too. It was apparently withdrawn from an ATM. I asked to see the hidden cam inside the ATM. Reply: we dont have one at this branch sir. SO off i go to Siam head office to speak with manager, his reply was were you drinking that day sir. My reply was no i wasnt even in the country, i was in Cambodia and showed my passport. needless to say it was never recovered. A few months after i was working in Chula and about 3 other stories with similar experiences came to light. BANK STAFF! -
Its all very well saying you would rather have it in Thailand than back home, but when that becomes the only reality you are allowed. things are not so great!
I have about 50% of my assets here in thailand, and i know others have transfered a lot of their pensions here too.
However a recent spate of Bank trips in an effort to send some emergency money back home for my family has had been flat out refused at over 3 banks. In 12 years i have never had a problem with thai banks until now. We cant even own a condo, land, or send money out with FET forms. God forbid if you sell the condo and pay tax and want to send money back home.. I even showed them an FET form and was refused too. I always thought the FET forms were all thats required. Wrong! So basically if you ever need to leave or go back home for some medical reason, be prepared to lose everything or leave it ALL behind...
What comes in wont be leaving easily... no matter what documents you have. unless you have a work permit! -
Anyone tried recently to Transfer money out of Thailand in 2017, have the Banks changed their policy or am i just having a bad run?
For over a decade i have had no problem with Thai banks, occasionally i need to transfer cash back home and they have been fine if its below 20k USD. Even sometimes over that amount they have also been fine.
Now i have been to 3 different banks and branches this week, and been flat out refused everytime.
I even showed them an FET form which i thought would help, yet i was also refused even with one of those. and asked for more papers and documents and proof of funds.
It seems now that moving money out even if its below 20k USD requires not just a Work permit but a check in the bank book on every transaction and where the money came from!!!
Ive never had this happen before, and obviously feel rather annoyed. Infact i plan not to bring another baht into Thailand and to empty every single bank account and buy a safe instead. Seriously!
Something bad is happening if they wont allow us to send money back home without a work permit. many of us have retired already or trade stocks or are private investors. We dont need a work permit to have money!
Anyone else having problems or can share recent news or experienceon sending money out of Thailand via Thai Banks in 2017
-
Great idea but god help you if you ever want to send your 10 mil back home aftewards. These days even if you show them an FET form of where the money came in. unless you have a absolutely perfect money trail including the little bank stubs they give you at banks and most people throw away (doh because I was told the FET form is all i needed) they will just say no and make you feel like criminal. unbelievable... i even bought 2 condos and everytime i go to a Bank to send money out. if you are not retired and dont have a work permit - they will assume your a criminal. Be very careful!

weird post but it must be quite tiring standing up all day trimming hair and small talking....
I think Bangkok is great for salons, you certainly have a lot to choose from. I prefer to pay in the middle and have a nice lady that can speak English with me rather than the super cheap asleep on the sofa or candy crush salons. I usually pay 450 baht for mine at Zahara salon in Sukhumvit 13, some hotties work there.
Another good place that is very easy to get to from BTS Ploenchit is this one savanna hair nail salon bangkok ploenchit
And Zenred gets very good reviews for Western style hair. mind you the older we get the less we care about our hair, the receding has already started for me...time is of the essence now.. -
Great way to publicize his up and coming movie, no anterior motives whatsoever...
-
Because its not his fault, it was her fault for wearing a short crop top and smiling at him... she deserved to get raped! dont you understand Thainess yet? Well go back to own countries then why stay here if you always complain about the Thai way!
-
Another waste of jail space for the murderers, rapists, yaba suppliers, child traffickers, corrupt politicians...

Ofcourse the anti green brigade and ani climate change are gonna jump in and say <deleted> its a lie.
But seriously any normal person that takes his head out of the clouds and does the maths here = Human population rising exponentially x urban areas increasing at alarming rate x muslim population baby machines x capitalism + china = LESS SPACE AVAILABLE = NO MORE WILDLIFE (apart from in Zoos)

Kiss food restaurant is your best bet, no aircon but just sit under the fan, certainly not going to kill you...
Aircon restaurants for 40-50 baht will only exist if your eating in BIG C or a food court im afraid, Electricity has gone up a lot over the last 12 years here, so you will have to improvise... -
RULE no1
Never Ever Get Married... It means nothing just pain, trouble and is completely UNnecessary in this day and age. its just a farce now that has been manipulated by lawyers and has nothing to do with the church anymore.
A relationship if based on love needs no piece of legal documents to solidify that, and if they start asking for marriage, you better take off your rose tinted goggles because they are asking for a reason. $$$$ security and the the excuse to sit home eat all day get fat and treat you like dogshit with the ace in their pack of cards.
Wake up suckers...THE END...
-
And lets not forget when the shoe is on the other foot...
I think a worthy question but one no one dares to ask is this...
Once a guy has mongered one too many times, can they ever stop? or worse can they maintain a relationship without the urge to monger.
I can assume its equally as difficult for men to stop too. -
Granted its an easy statement to make, but when they hide behind women and children and 1.5 million innocents. its not so easy...

i dont know, if you ask me. when it actually comes down to the nitty gritty.
Freedom of rights, freedom of speech, human rights, proaganda, leste majeste - yes Thailand does have a lot to answer for... But lets take a look to the West, the US General elections is the biggest propaganda joke and media circus ive ever witnessed, and this is from a so called (Free country) I know one thing... Thailand may have its faults but when it comes to Propaganda versus controlling the Media (disciplining it when it steps out of line etc) i certainly prefer Thailands way than any of the western worlds media garbage and circus shows.
And regarding transparency, im 110% sure the UK and USA are not transparent about pretty much anything, so why judge Thailand any differently? the only difference in reality is Thailand makes it plainly obvious and the West lies about it under a false flag of democracy and free speech and free rights. If Thailand was so bad you wouldn't be here and you wouldnt be reading this, instead you would be say in some cold factory toilet in Manchester reading the Sun or Daily mirror and admiring your governments transparency or its treatment to terrorists in Guantanamo, yes innocent until proven guilty? i think not... -
the mind boggles....
How does anyone get into these situations?
I came here years ago with just a backpack and a few bob, i made it my priority to find a job - ANY JOB! just enough to get by is fine... its not that hard if you get your lazy butt out of bed in the morning and go out with a shirt and tie on, smile at a few people and show your willingness to work.
Tell him to go get a job... any job, maybe a job that will pay him per day for a few hours teaching... theres loads on the internet, there really is ZERO excuse!
Then when he gets together a few thousand baht... do a border run and get the visa reset and his fines paid off...pronto!!!No blacklist, no drama - but he has to act NOW!
Oh and with regards to what happens when he returns back to the UK with no money? The UK government will be throwing money at people who dont want to work and dont have a place to stay, no worries there - its the reason these dregs to society exist because they are so used to free handouts..

we need an update to this topic for 2017
I never in all my years in thailand had any problems sending occassional money back home. until this year!
Flat out refused in every branch i went, and not just refused but treated like im a criminal just for asking.
No i dont have a work permit because i dont work for a thai company, im a stock trader that works for myself and have an elite Visa...
Did they care? nope... they found it almost unheard of and couldnt grasp the concept of working internationally.
So, armed with some FET forms i proceeded to try and move money back
guess what - another no...
