  1. Is there a limit age of the Child when you are applying for a Non O based on Thai Child?

I heard before that the child can't be over 20 but I am not sure it is confirm or not?

I have been getting 1 year Non O multiple for the past several years in without any issue. The last one I got was last November 2018 so will expired this coming November 2019. My son turned 20 last May 2019 so I am not sure it will accepted this time.

  2. I tried inputting my True number but unfortunately it was rejected saying it must be an AIS number. Went into AIS shop who said only way round this would be to purchase a cheap 50 baht AIS sim. They said they were running a promotion where the 299 baht package would be free for first month and then I would have to top up the sim by 300 baht every month after that with the package fee taken out of the credit. She claimed there is no way to pay by using a bank card.
I am using AIS Play app through Android Box and it's working great. But I am AIS mobile customer. What I did was:
I used to be a True Vision customer for many years with a Gold Package. I had 3 True Vision boxes at home (3 TV's, Living room + 2 Bedrooms) so it was costing me a fortune (I think about 3,500b / month without internet!). I am interested only about movies and series, not sport. When True stopped the HBO channels, no more point to keep True (and it was too expensive). I then signup for cable TV (300b/month) but it was crap (bad quality images...). I bought 1 android box for the purpose that time to watch Netflix.
I downloaded the AIS play app on my android box and it was working. I subscribe to one of their package (I think Premium) which was 299/ month with first month free. It worked perfectly. At home, I am using 3BB fiber ( I think 300 Mbps plan). I bought 3 additional android boxes (one per TV) so we are free to watch AIS Play and Netflix anywhere at home.
The great thing also is that I am working in Myanmar and have an android box there too and AIS play is working there through VPN (I am using ExpressVPN).
So it cost me only 300b/ month for AIS package and I thing 350b/ month for Netflix to watch plenty of Channels. Of course, I need to add the cost of the android boxes but this is quite cheap and my 3BB Fiber internet plan.

  3. I would dry trade for 12 months before you decide to drop and real money in this. People do make a living or better out of foreign currency trading but it is not for the faint hearted.

Traders of any kind can be broken down into two types - Trading on fundamentals and the other is trading based on technicals.
My first question to you would be whether you can explain succinctly what both of these methods are and where they diffe
After you have decided your method of choice, can you explain the main theories behind it?

If you can't you are doing nothing more than gambling.
Thanks, interesting. Yes, I am reading a lot (or watching videos) about this subject and that's the advise that keep repeating: training, learning long time before going for real. I also saw it while I am on demo mode playing with binary, forex and stock. It is not that easy and I just don't have the technical yet. But I will still practice (as you said maybe for another year) until I feel more confident.

  4. You can open a trading account with your bank in your home country.
That way you are trading within the laws of that country.
As in the horses, don't put down more money than you can afford to lose.
    Cheers
Thanks. I don't have any bank account in my home country. Actually, I don't have anything in my own country (no family, no properties, no bank accounts...). I have been based here since 1991 and never been back to my own country. So I have bank accounts in Thailand, credit cards, house, family...
I don't intend to make this as a main activities, just sort of hobby. I don't need that to make a living, I already have incomes. But I am not working in Thailand, neither have work permit.
I just don't put myself in trouble if this is not legal.

  5. Pardone my ignorance because I have no clue about trading but I am learning.

My son is doing some trading online (binary, forex, stock...) through a specialize website and I have decided to try.

There is a first part once you sign up is a demo to learn with not real money but once you are ready, you can deposit real by bank transfer (minimum is 10$) and then trade. The profit (withdraw) if any can be transfer to your account.

I am not working at the moment so I am learning / playing with that and consider to try with real money.

I would like to know if this is legal here in Thailand for a foreigner to do that. The money will be transfer from my Thai account and profit (if any) will be also remitted to my Thai account.

I am not expecting to become $ billionaire. It is just to learn and keep myself busy.

  6. Google drive or any other "free" cloud-based services: the only question to ask yourself, are you ready to share your photos (and sometimes transfer the ownership) with someone else?

Storage: I use external storage and have my own NAS solution as well, storage capacity is quite cheap nowadays.

Photos editing: I use Adobe Lightroom 6 and Photoshop Elements 13. I just paid a one off fee and didn't subscribe to any recurring service fee.

    Thanks for the constructive comment.
No, I don't mind about sharing or transfer ownership of my photos ( I think you mean privacy). First of all, i am making photos to share it. Second, I am not at professional level to worry about ownership photo.
I am very concern about backing up (I used to lose all my data's many years ago when I was only saving on my computer without backup). Now, all my photos are stored and organised (folders) in external 2GB SSD portable drive, then uploaded to Google, then also backup to an external 6GB hard drive at home).
As google photos, I found it very good for auto backup, for sharing, the organisation and that you access all your photos from anywhere any devices (as long as you have internet access). For example, I have an android box and it is easy to slideshow my photos on my large screen TV. I also like the way it auto edit your best photos that you can accept or not.
When it come to edition, when I started to really make photos (when I bought a decent camera), I subscribed to Adobe CC to use mostly lightroom. But I didn't take the time to learn how to use it and soon became bored about and not using it. I then stopped the subscription. But few weeks ago, as I am not working at the moment and have more time, I subscribed again to Adobe CC. I watched a lot of tutorials and learned about it. Now I am getting much better on photo editing and enjoy it a lot. I also now can see the real difference in edition between Lightroom and google photo. In term of organisation, lightroom doesn't give much because I spent a lot of time for the last few years to really well organise my photos.

  7. Use amazon prime's photo feature, or Amazon's S3.
I checked about Amazon on internet. Not much difference with Google and about same cost.
My point here is not much about which cloud service, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Dropbox... but more between such services and photo editor such as lightroom, Adobe...
Using Google photos for me came because it is integrated in Android, has an easy automatic app that automaticaly upload and backup all your photos (or selected folder) from your computer, automatically stylish, edited your photos or doing it manually...
Searching photos is also very easy...
I believe sofware such Adobe lightroom are more powerful is term of edition but seems more for professionals

  8. I started with a Minix Neo U1 as first android box. That was the only box available at the time in the shop I was. Work very well. I was using it mainly for Netflix, Iflix, Youtube and watch some movies downloaded in an external drive.
When I saw that Minix has also a windows box version too, I bought one. But I felt that android OS was more convenient than windows. I believe each person has his preferences.
When I saw about the Nvidia Shield and especially that included the gaming part, I bought one. I am regular gamer and have a Playstation for years. But it was a mistake as playing game on android box is nothing to compare with Playstation...But anyway, I have 4 TV's at home so I put it one of them.
One thing happen is that I subscribed to AIS play (as I am AIS mobile customer) and installed the app easily on the Minix Android. However, no way to instal AIS play on the Shield (as it is Google TV even sideload is not working).
So I concluded that the Minix android was the best for me, fitting all my needs: Netflix, Youtube, AIS Play, external drive, even watching directly my photos with Google Photos.
So I bought another 3 Minix Android box to have one with each TV. There was no more Neo U1, so I bought the Neo U9 (apparently the same model but can't see the difference).
I gave the Minix Windows to my sister and the Nvidia Shield to my son.

  9. Hello,
I believe best way for you is to get an e-visa for Myanmar.
I was there last week. I visited 3 Myanmar islands (Horse shoe, Cockburn and Nyuang Oo Phee island).
For me, it is bit different because I am working in Myanmar and I already have a Myanmar visa ( business 1 year Multiple entry) and also live in Thailand (Phuket) with Non O multiple entry.
What I did last week was driving my own car from Phuket to Ranong where I booked an hotel for few days.
From Ranong, I used a tour company called "Love Andaman" who are operating daytrip to these islands from Ranong.
From Ranong Pier, you pass the Thai immigration and get your exit stamp. Then the boat stop to Kawthong for Myanmar immigration where you get entry stamp. Then you go to the islands. On the way back, same: stop in Kawthong for exit stamp then Ranong pier for immigration for entry stamp.
I was the only foreigner on these trips. Only Thai (which can get temp border pass with their ID card).
When I enquire Love Andaman for these trip, they first told me that I need to apply for a Myanmar e-visa but when they saw my business visa, it was ok.
While I was there, I was told that at the moment, except private boats, only 2 travel company are operationg these islands: Love Andaman from Ranong and Gran Andaman from Kawthong. In both case, you need a Myanmar visa (e-visa if you are tourist).
As I have been working in Yangon for several years, I thought it was the opportunity to visit these islands while I was in Myanmar. However, I found out that travelling from Myek or Kawthong from Yangon is complicate (either by road which take very long time, or by plane which is expensive), it was cheaper and easier for me to do it from Ranong.
As for your other question to get re-entry in Ranong, I don't know about that as I have a Thai multiple entry visa.
These islands are amazing to see.

  10. Just buy an external hard drive or two.
Yes I have few and 1 (2TB) is only dedicate for the photos. It's a second backup.
Of course, external hard drive is a solution but my questions are more related to Google Photos. External drive can be corrupted, lost, stolen...
Photos on google cloud remains on the cloud, can be accessible from anywhere as long as you are online, from your PC, Mac, tablet, smarphone, android box...

  11. Hello, I would to hear from photographs professional (or much more experience than myself) about Google photos. Is it good to use it? To store (and backup) all your photos, to edit....

I am doing a lot of photos with both smartphone, DSLR, mirrorless, gopro...firsly because I am travelling a lot but I also I like to take photos.

Having a gmail account, an android phone, I have a google drive on which I have been storing a lot of documents and it also automaticaly upload your photos. I am using backup and sync on my Mac and windows laptop. What I like with it is that you can access your photos from anywhere.

As the free option is limited to 5GB storage (I think), I subscribed to a paid version which give me 2TB for 3500 THB / year.

I used to subscribe to Adobe CC to use lightroom but I didn't use it much so I didn't renew the subscription. But now I am reconsidering.

    Any comments? Good / Bad...?

  12. No
Just an officer thinking the rule stated it was needed 24 hours after arriving in the country. It is only required within 24 hours of arriving at the  residence.
Thanks. That was also my understanding. Also, if I am not wrong, I don't need to notify to immigration every time I am travelling within Thailand? For example, I am to Bangkok tomorrow for few nights, will stay in hotel, then will come back home in Phuket?

  13. Litte background:

I know that address registration of foreigner is a law that has existed for long time in Thailand but only reinforce few years ago only and being more and more strict.

I have been in Thailand for quite long time now (since 1991) but been working abroad during most of these years, back to Thailand very often, sometime for only few days, sometime few months. I own a house in Phuket which is my permanent address and registered this address in immigration few years ago when they started to reinforce this law. So I got this paper staple in my passport (notification of alien...something with my address on it). Also, I have been working in Myanmar for the last 7 years and as neighbor country, been in and out from Thailand very often (mostly every week), mostly for weekend only and bit longer when I have holidays. So when coming on a weekend ( coming on Friday evening and leaving on Sunday evening), no way to go immigration to notify the address (the same address anyway). However, each time I had plans to stay longer, the first thing I am doing the next day of my arrival is to go to immigration office to notify my address (good boy!). Forgot to mention that I am on Non O multiple 1 year (based on Thai child) for years now.

This time I came back from Yangon on 31 March evening as my contract in Myanmar is finish. So on the Monday 1st April, went to the immigration in Phuket town to notify my stay (same address). As I didn't notice the new "drive in" service, I parked my motorbike and went inside the office. I was then politely explained about the drive in that was just outside. So I walked out of the office and knock at the window of the drive in. The officer open the window and shout at me, saying that I must use my motorbike or car to use this service... fair enough... I jumped on my bike that was parked few meter away and drove to the drive in window (I didn't even need to turn on the engine of the bike as it was so close...). The officer took my passport and returned it to me a minute later with a new stamp "1st April" on the notification paper staple in my passport. Done!

Last Friday 19 April, I decided to go few days on holidays in Ranong with my family. We drove to Ranong on the Friday, booked an hotel Ranong. On Saturday, we did a day trip to Koh Payam. As I still have a 1 year multiple entry visa for Myanmar, we decided to visit the Myanmar islands in the south east of Kawthong on day trip. So we did 3 day trips to Myanmar islands on Sunday 21, Monday 22 and Tuesday 23. So every day going through immigration (Thai /Myanmar) in and out. So my last entry to Thailand was on 23 April. Each time I was entering Thailand, I had to fill the standard immigration form on which I was mentioning my hotel in Ranong as where I was staying.

On Wednesday 24, we stayed in Ranong only, relaxing and visiting the town.

On Thurday 25 (yesterday), check out the hotel and hit the road back to Phuket. Stopped in Khao Lak for a good break, lunch on the beach. Reached home in Phuket around 5pm.

This morning, as a good boy, headed to immigration office in Phuket town to notify my address as I left Thailand. Went straight to the drive in this time! The officer checked my passport and noticed that my entry date stamp was 23 April. He then started to shout at me, telling that I have 24 hours only to notify but we are 26 April already! I was subject to a fine! I tried to explain him my trip, that I left Ranong only yesterday, that I was staying in hotel in Ranong, that I arrived in Phuket only yesterday evening, that's why I was coming to notify only this morning!

After arguying with my wife who was with me, he finally stamped my notification paper with today date and let us go. He told my wife that I should have gone to Ranong immigration yesterday to notify that I was leaving Ranong for Phuket yesterday!

    Did I do something wrong??

PS: during my check-in in Ranong Hotel, they requested my passport and did a copy for immigration registration

  14. I am using Krungsri abroad using a foreign sim and it work. Now I have a dual sim phone (Thai sim + foreign sim). When abroad, I am connected to foreign simcard data only or wifi and I can use Krungsri app without any problem. If OTP is required, it come to my Thai sim (Thai number) which is configured to 2G only (no data).

OK...I understand now.  That is a big discount and enticement to signup with AIS Fibre.

My switch to the AIS Power4Maxx 200/100 plan went OK at 2 minutes after midnight with the start of my billing month.   Below are a couple of speed tests done via Wifi connection to my router along with an IPv4 & IPv6 connectivity test.  I have the AIS-provided router set to bridged mode which provides my ASUS router full control of my home network.   My connection comes with a "Public/dynamic" vs Private (CGNAT) IPv4  connection....originally is came with CGNA  butAIS changed it from CGNAT to Public...suppose to cost extra per month but it never has for me....that occurred around 18 months ago in trying to fix an international speed problem I had for 6 weeks (speed was still OK...it's just it had dropped to around half of what it use to be....but they later found a server problem and got that international speed back to what it had use to be for me.  All good to go.

if you paid until july, why would you lose all that money you paid and switch to AIS?

    it doesn't make any sense.

Actually, just because this promotion from AIS at Bt500 is valid only this month. So, if I want to go with them, I rather take it this month and have 2 Fiber connection for few months

  17. 500 baht less than 3BB Bt1284?  For the AIS Fibre PowerMaxx 200/100 package with 20GB mobile data and Playbox TV package like you described it Bt999 plus 7% VAT per month?  Now they do have a PowerMaxx 100/50 package with SIM and Play box for Bt799 plus VAT.
    http://www.ais.co.th/fibre/en/package_power4maxx.html

Anyway, I know you are  talking Phuket, but I've been with AIS Fibre here in Bangkok for about 3 years....fiber all the way to my home....no DSL for the final X-meters.   Reliability/up-time has been north of 99.99%.

Right now I'm on their 200/50 package with 4Mb speed unlimited data and Playbox for 1099/month.  However, in less than 3 hours when my new billing month starts I will switch to the PowerMaxx 200/100 package talked about...basically a better/faster package for Bt100 less than what I was paying.  AIS Fibre just continues to lower prices and offer a wide variety of packages....hard to keep up with all the new packages (internet and TV packages) and price drops.

Yes, it is this package AIS Fibre PowerMaxx 200/100 with 20GB mobile data and Playbox TV. The normal price for this package is Bt999 + taxes but if you are 3BB Fiber existing customer, they offer a promotion at Bt500 + taxes. We only need to show them the 3BB bill to be eligible for this package.
My contract with 3BB is until July (actually I paid 1 year in front) but I am considering to take AIS now, that will give me the time to test it. Also, this promotion is until the end of March as per AIS said.
I am very happy with 3BB, no issue at all (I am also on Fiber till the router) but AIS is Bt700 cheaper...
I am long customer of AIS for mobile. I have 15gb data sim for 799/ month. My wife and my 19 years old son are also with AIS mobile. So don't really need the 20Gb sim from the package but it's ok.
I am also subscriber on AIS play through my mobile number. I believe it is the same contents than with the Playbox more or less. I subscribed to the Premium package at 300/ month. Good thing is that I installed the AIS play app on multiple android boxes so I can enjoy it from all my TV's ( I have 3 at home) and even in Myanmar through VPN where I am working. So the playbox is not really needed for me but again Bt700 cheaper for the Fiber than 3BB.

  18. Does anyone has any experience with AIS Fiber in Phuket (I am in Kathu)?

I have been using 3BB Fiber (to home 200/100) for the last few years without any issue but AIS Fiber is now reaching my area and AIS is offering a package (similar than my 3bb 200/100) at 500 bahts per month instead of 1,284b / month with 3bb.

The AIS package include free AIS playbox for 1 year and a simcard 20gb.

I am already AIS customer with mobile and AIS play (through mobile and android box).

I just want to know if AIS Fiber is reliable in term of quality and speed compare to 3BB Fiber.

  19. 2000mAh sounds heavy to carry around and likely a problem in airports. Suvarnabhumi has a limit on 16000mAh bricks in carry on from memory.
