  1. This is certainly and impressive list.  But it is not a true watch collection.  I don't see a single classic like the Paul Newman Rolex or the Omega Speedmaster1861 Moon watch.  Just 25 new top end brand name watches, typical of someone who has got fantastically rich all of a sudden.

As you pointed out, the watches in question are the type you’d give someone as an over the top bribe, not an assortment a watch loving collector would amass over time.

  2. I have seen this as well, about 10 years ago I was chatting with a girl in the bar and she told me her life story and about how she had a degree in management, so I asked her why she was in the bar,she pointed to three other girls in the bar who went to university with her, same as them she said, even with a degree we cant find good work and we have to pay off the debts that our parents have taken on to educate us.

And let’s not leave out the other possible outcomes, some of these girls actually like sex and eventually end up with a foreigner they might otherwise never have met, be it a short term sugar daddy or an eventual husband and baby daddy.
  3. Most family tourism is much more annoying to me than what comes along with the sex tourism, and I don’t partake in either; people pushing kids in strollers that are perfectly old enough to walk or small enough to carry in very crowded areas, screaming kids in hotels, families leaving tables in restaurants filthy like pigs, etc etc.

Ban family tourism, there are places for that sort of ilk, like Disneyland. I like Thailand how it traditionally has been - a place for adults to enjoy a variety of pleasures, whether that’s serene relaxation and clean massage or something of the more stimulating variety where there’s a mutually consensual exchange of money for service one cannot usually find in their home country.

  4. When you buy a nice watch there’s a warranty card with the serial number and your name on it. Yes it could be forged, but simply go round up all 25 “friends” who ostensibly lent him the watches and show all the warranty cards. Oops, I guess all of those generous friends had the same unusual habit of throwing out the warranty cards and other documentation, because... that’s what you usually do when you buy a million baht timepiece! 5. How many of those selfish drivers basking in anonymity behind their tinted windows also have Instagram selfies of themselves at temples, making merit, etc?

In never ceases to amaze me how differently Thais can act when they’re getting credit for something vs when there’s no accountability for their actions. Nothing speaks more to the true character than the way they behave behind a wheel.

  6. @wakeupplease can you tell us more about the actual scam that was used on you? Or if it’s not appropriate for this thread you can PM it to me. Now your story has me very interested and concerned. At first I thought you just had the gripes of a common expat but your case sounds both unusual and scary, one to avoid if at all possible. Was it an investment scam, or simply a bank deposit that started the whole series of events?

  7. Did you not read what I wrote? Ok never mind it won't be long b4 some scammer has a go at you, but just think of me when it does happen and it will happen as it did to me and my Thai wife and then you will realize why people just hate the place

Bye Bye have a great day

PS- I apologize for being an ass earlier. Sounds like you do have a legitimate reason to be sour on the place. I’ve been there before too and left it. The rest of the world has a way of reminding you some things are pretty damn nice in Thailand so I hope you and the wife find your way back under better circumstances someday. Best wishes to you and your family.
