This is certainly and impressive list. But it is not a true watch collection. I don't see a single classic like the Paul Newman Rolex or the Omega Speedmaster1861 Moon watch. Just 25 new top end brand name watches, typical of someone who has got fantastically rich all of a sudden.
As you pointed out, the watches in question are the type you’d give someone as an over the top bribe, not an assortment a watch loving collector would amass over time.- 1

In point of fact he is above everyone in the country except prayut and one other.
... and as such, can display his ill-gotten wealth with impunity! -
Calm down people. You cannot rush perfection. This will be the best explanation of borrowed wristwatches in the history of the kingdom, just give it the time it deserves.

Yes, because if I were falsely accused of attaining my legitimate wristwatches through some form of alleged corruption, my strategy would of course be to delay and delay the process of clearing my good name.... said no innocent man ever.

That's also a possibility but as for liking sex...women don't have sex, they have sex done to them, unless they are lesbian.
Maybe it’s something you’ve been doing wrong [emoji12]- 1

I have seen this as well, about 10 years ago I was chatting with a girl in the bar and she told me her life story and about how she had a degree in management, so I asked her why she was in the bar,she pointed to three other girls in the bar who went to university with her, same as them she said, even with a degree we cant find good work and we have to pay off the debts that our parents have taken on to educate us.
And let’s not leave out the other possible outcomes, some of these girls actually like sex and eventually end up with a foreigner they might otherwise never have met, be it a short term sugar daddy or an eventual husband and baby daddy. -

You guys (rightly) pointing out that the vast majority of men utilizing prostitutes are Thai are missing the point: it’s not the actual prostitution that’s bothering Prayut, otherwise this would’ve become a thing much much earlier; it’s the loss of face he and the country suffered as a result of some politician from Africa disparaging Thailand for its (well deserved?) worldwide reputation. That is all about the 10% of foreigners who go home to their own countries raving about how nice it is to P4P.

Most family tourism is much more annoying to me than what comes along with the sex tourism, and I don’t partake in either; people pushing kids in strollers that are perfectly old enough to walk or small enough to carry in very crowded areas, screaming kids in hotels, families leaving tables in restaurants filthy like pigs, etc etc.
Ban family tourism, there are places for that sort of ilk, like Disneyland. I like Thailand how it traditionally has been - a place for adults to enjoy a variety of pleasures, whether that’s serene relaxation and clean massage or something of the more stimulating variety where there’s a mutually consensual exchange of money for service one cannot usually find in their home country.
-
Whether for cash on the spot or for a nicer place to live and a credit card for shopping.... it’s all prostitution in the end. Like SIM cards the only question is prepaid or postpaid (the latter can be a whole lot more expensive).

A cardboard cutout would’ve handled this situation better.

A shame that one of the scumbags survived. He will surely get off scot free after the police publicity runs its course.

Sounded great right up until the end. I guess lawyers will have a windfall setting up a multitude of separate companies each containing 4 rental properties.

Big Joke should try to go hail a cab on soi 11 on a weekend night [emoji23]

The pricing and lack of decent wine is horrendous in this country, and it’s a damn shame because the food pairing possibilities are simply amazing. Someday the two will find each other, one can dream....

When you buy a nice watch there’s a warranty card with the serial number and your name on it. Yes it could be forged, but simply go round up all 25 “friends” who ostensibly lent him the watches and show all the warranty cards. Oops, I guess all of those generous friends had the same unusual habit of throwing out the warranty cards and other documentation, because... that’s what you usually do when you buy a million baht timepiece! How many of those selfish drivers basking in anonymity behind their tinted windows also have Instagram selfies of themselves at temples, making merit, etc?
In never ceases to amaze me how differently Thais can act when they’re getting credit for something vs when there’s no accountability for their actions. Nothing speaks more to the true character than the way they behave behind a wheel. -
I guess the country is making the most of its natural resources

Does anyone here know what date the current junta first proclaimed a democratic election would take place? How far delayed is it at this point?

@wakeupplease can you tell us more about the actual scam that was used on you? Or if it’s not appropriate for this thread you can PM it to me. Now your story has me very interested and concerned. At first I thought you just had the gripes of a common expat but your case sounds both unusual and scary, one to avoid if at all possible. Was it an investment scam, or simply a bank deposit that started the whole series of events?

Did you not read what I wrote? Ok never mind it won't be long b4 some scammer has a go at you, but just think of me when it does happen and it will happen as it did to me and my Thai wife and then you will realize why people just hate the place
Bye Bye have a great day
PS- I apologize for being an ass earlier. Sounds like you do have a legitimate reason to be sour on the place. I’ve been there before too and left it. The rest of the world has a way of reminding you some things are pretty damn nice in Thailand so I hope you and the wife find your way back under better circumstances someday. Best wishes to you and your family.- 2

Actually there are many scams being carried out with impunity in Thailand, so many directed at foreigners. That’s why the best thing to do is to just keep investments outside of LoS in some system that you understand, and just enjoy the place for what it is: a good place to spend money and enjoy life.- 3

I don’t think you understand the expression about the door. Anyhoo... thanks for informing everyone you’re leaving. Isn’t there another sunny country’s visa related forum you should be gleefully gracing with your presence, since you’re fed up with everything Thailand and have better places to be these days?

Good riddance. One less disgruntled expat here. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out [emoji1]- 4

Most Americans are jealous of the Prayut cutout’s superior mastery of communication over their president’s.
Prawit again seeks fifth extended time to clarify his pricey watches

I said these are the types that would be used for such a thing, not that that’s actually where these ones came from.
Watches are given as gifts for financial rewards all the time, and much of the time legally. Not all bribes are illegal.
