  1. I got my $600 check two days ago and used my US credit union's app-photo-deposit feature.  I got notification about an hour later that it was approved.

I understand your concern with Schwab thinking you're overseas.  I have the same issue with my investment company, they can't work human-to-human with me while I'm overseas but I do things like buy and sell stock and arrange for SWIFT transfers on their web site and they know I've relocated here.

Given the nightmare of processing the paper check here, I would go with the app deposit.

  2. Our committee had a regular business meeting on Saturday and we voted to postpone our normal early-March AGM until it's safe to do so.

Given the on / off COVID restrictions on gatherings and farang travel restrictions we felt it's the right thing to do.

Our Jurisitic Person manager said there's nothing in the Condo Act that prevents us from doing so.

  3. For anyone driving to Samui, I drove from Hua Hin to Samui yesterday.

I had to stop at a COVID checkpoint just south of Chumpon.  They did a temperature check and recorded my driver's license number.

When we drove off the ferry onto the island, they took a picture of my passport, asked me where I was staying on the island and where I was coming from.  They seemed content that I live in Hua Hin and was coming to Samui to visit a friend.

  4. I file by paper due to claiming the tax exemption of the Treaty of Amity.

For the first stimulus, I received a letter telling me they were sending me a debit card for the amount.  The debit card never arrived.  I suspect the Thai postal service felt a card in the envelope and absconded with it.

I have not received any notification for the second payment.

Using the IRS lookup web site is tricky because you have to enter the street address *they have in their system*, which can be nothing like what you would expect due to the different nature of our addresses here.

I can never tell if people are talking about kiddie toy (like the one on the picture above ^^^) or a proper e-motorbike (also called e-scooter).

Modern e-motorbikes are quite powerful, though not very popular in Thailand yet.

That is exactly the scooter I have now.  It is *not* powerful enough for two people on the hills in Phuket.  I suspect that the Niu could be.

Many thanks, Stubuzz, actually I was looking for something more powerful, similar to this :

I am looking at that same scooter myself, upgrading from a 4-year-old Thai electric scooter.  It has very high quality components and a powerful motor.  I am sure it could handle one person on the hills, but I'm not sure about two.  Is there a dealer in Phuket where you could ask for a test drive?  I've only seen them in the .Life shops in Bangkok.

  7. Very cool way to measure your solar and grid via the 485 meters with the hardware display!

I went another way on mine, a Sonoff / Tasmota Wifi-enabled meter on both modules with Enphase microinverters, data uploads to my server in Singapore over MQTT + NodeRed.  My web page pulls the data from the server and formats nice gauges and charts.  I recently found a limitation in the Google chart I use, it silently non-displays columns after it reaches an arbitrary undocumented limit.  :^(  Thanks as usual Google!

A Chinese made Tesla Model 3 standard range in Thailand costs US$100,000 (three times higher than in the USA)

Tesla has not established a presence in Thailand yet, so all cars are brought in from the UK and Hong Kong through the grey market, with tax, duty and importer profit.  When it's official, all Made-In-China Teslas will come in with 0% import duty, just like the MG ZS.

    If I’m not mistaken...

The Honda PCX Electric has a range of 42km (on a 3 hr charge of 2 batteries) and a top speed of 60kmh.

The battery switching stations are obviously a major necessity - the speed limitation shouldn’t be an issue on Sukhumvit Rd in central Bangkok.

Now... IF only Electric City busses could be utilised and Thailand starts looking as if it is taking its pollution issues seriously.

Yes, the PCX Electric has poor range and zero availability.  I've been trying to get Honda to sell me one for 2 years!  This is just a publicity stunt / delaying tactic until they can get their battery cost down and range up.  The modularity of the packs actually hurts them - a dedicated non-removable pack would allow more space for cells.

  10. AIS and True have the best frequency bands and cell tower coverage right now, which is limited but growing.

DTAC didn't spend much money in the frequency auction and will be very restricted in their 5G rollout.  This is why I switched from DTAC to AIS here in Hua Hin.

I live near the Night Market with their one current 5G tower and I have a strong 5G signal on my phone and a Huawei 5G hotspot that I'm now using as my Internet gateway, runs around 400mb/sec, 8 times faster than my 3BB DSL.

I made a video on my YouTube channel about the whole thing but was told by an admin that I couldn't post it because it sounded too much like a business video...  Fair enough.  Hopefully this is the kind of guidance you're looking for.

  11. Yes, I have AIS 5G service on my new Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G phone.  You need a nearby 5G tower, a 5G-enabled phone, a 5G SIM card and a 5G monthly data plan for it to work.  I live two blocks away from AIS's only 5G tower in Hua Hin, but the signal and speed is excellent.

I even bought and set up the "Huawei 5G CPE Pro" device from AIS and use it for 5G wireless service for all the networked devices in my condo.  It's 6-8x faster than my 3BB DSL and only cost about 300 baht a month more.  I made a YouTube video explaining how everything works, but I got dinged here last time I tried to post a link to one of my videos.  PM me if you want the details.
