  1. Thank you very much for the replies. I gave up the idea and look for the item in TH.

    Gentlemen,

I am planning to order pair of ESS ICE brand sunglasses from ebay. The item will cost about $74.00 including postal fee. I would like have an idea the Thai custom duty or post office tax for sunglasses. Does anyone have previous experience ordering sunglasses approximately this value? The seller refuses to declare lower value than the actual value.

    Your suggestion/advice is highly appreciated

7004.90.10 - - Optical glass, not optically worked 50% from the declared value +7% vat on top and 7% VAT on postal fees.

it should cost you around 120 dollars.

  2. Hi,

Can anyone suggest me a shop to buy a batter pack (Japanese made) for Marui M4. It’s SANYO brand 8.4V, 7 cells.

If not, a place to buy SANYO nickel cadmium rechargeable battery KR-600AE 1.2V, 600 mAh. I can make the battery pack by myself.

There are cheap Chinese brand available for this model but I am not confident with their performance.

    Thank you,

    ______________________________________________________________________________

... yeah ... like that's going to happen.

... sadly, what I extrapolate from this is that Thais need foreigners to save them from themselves ... desperately.

... inferior cultural values are now indemic here, rendering Thais incapable of saving themselves ... Thai culture values seem in a death spiral, and now past the tipping point, where there remains no moral tender capable of firing a blaze the likes of a Nelson Mandela, or Aung San Suu Kyi, or Mohandas Gandi.

... Thai greed is now more powerful than the Thai's Buddha.

... I am so deeply saddened for my Thai children.

"Thai greed is now more powerful than the Thai's Buddha." Very true and even more sad!

Thai's buddha?? Where did you happend to find this Thai's buddha anyway? Do you mean Thai's have their own buddha or buddha is belong to Thais? What is buddha got to do with this story anyway?

  5. Dear Int.Observer,

Thanks for the codes. That's exactly what I was looking for and I already programmed them with my Garmin. Do you happen to be in Huai Nam Dang area recently? Is that area negotiable by a small car? The reason is that I have heard from some of my Thai friends that the road is not very good for cars and needs a pick up or similar vehicle.

    Reg,

    Amal

  6. Dear Helmut,

thanks for the codes. Also, thanks for the other memebers whom spend their time for my request. I might be able to find the remaining 2 locations with the help of google maps. I'll take my notebook with me this time.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you,

    Amal

  7. Dear Sir,

I know how to read the coordinates from google. My issue is that I don't how to covert them to fit into my Garmin format. The Garmin program needs them in " hddd.ddddd(degree)". I wish someone will find the coordinates and convert them for me. Please don't blame for been too lazy. I just don't have enough time to learn these all now.

I got the citiy names in Thai too

    เชียงใหม่

    ม่อนแจ่ม

    สเมิง

    บ่อน้ำร้อนท่าปาย -

    ห้วยน้ำดัง

    ปางอุ๋ง

    Reg,

  8. Gentlemen

I am asking a favor from the persons whom are familiar with GPS programs , specially Garmin brand. I am planning a trip to Chang Mai and Pai, mid of next week and would like to know the GPS coordinates for following cities.

    Chiangmai

    Monjam

    Samerng

    Pai Hot Spring

    Huay Nam Dang

    Pang Aung

I gave a try in google maps but I am not be able to get the codes out of it and I would appreciated your kind support on this. I am using the Garmin program on my PDA, not a Gramin standalone unit.

  9. Have you guys ever been to Sri Lanka. The Tamil Tigers have kept that country in a state of panic for 30 years. They have intimidated and threatened their own people and held the country to ransom for that entire time. Colombo has been a city under siege for years and years and they have slowly ground the economy into the dust. All this for about 5% of the population. They want an autonomous zone. Impossible in a country of this size and they are backed by their brethen in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The current Prime Minister of Sri Lanka should be congratulated for what he has done. The Sri Lankan Government probably extended the state of emergency for good reason. The favourite tactic of the Tamil Tigers over the years has been to call a cease fire and then use that breathing space as a opportunity to re-arm. The Government has to keep their guard up because they are probably not finished yet. And you can't make an omellete without breaking a few eggs.

    Flame on bleading hearts!

Make your homework! Tamils are making about 20 %, there are Sri Lankan Tamils (14%), and Indian Tamils (4%). The whole thing didn't start because the Tamils wanted an "autonomous zone" but because the then female PM was a fascist. The thing with the ceasfire is very true, but after killing them all it's hard to talk about a cease fire, simply because there is no one left to talk to. "Can't make an omelette without braking a few eggs" is something you should try to tell the "civillians" in the "humanitarian refugee camps" up in the north! Sure the LTTE was using tactics as inhumane as they can get, as any irregular army has to, fighting against a regular. And no I don't like them neither but this doesn't mean the SLA, SLN and their little "special commandos" backed by their government should be allowed to commit crimes against humanity on a daily basis, and to an extend that is even worst than what the LTTE was doing. About beeing backed by Tamil Nadu, yes You know they are also tamils over there, and if it wouldn't have been for the Indian Government, the LTTE would have never become what it was, and without selling them out Rajiv Gandhi wouldn't have been killed either...

And your point is? the fact is the majority Sinhalese have a right to a peaceful existence without being held hostage by the terrorist LTTE - you cannot negotiate with these outfits and finally a Sri Lankan government had the balls to take the other option after successive governments tried to negotiate. Maybe the Thai Government could learn a thing or two from this about the trouble-makers in the South.

To Mr Johnson and the others..............YES i lived and worked in Sri Lanka (Ceylon in those days) for 3 years in the 50's.

The Sinhalese were the 'rulers' and used and treated the lovely friendly, but poor and uneducated Tamils like dirt! In those days life in Ceylon was slow fand peaceful, i always felt sorry for those Tamils and their lot in life and slowly began to dispise the ruling class of the Sinhalese who looked down on them as 'uneducated nobody's; Something like whats going on today in the north of Thailand today.( So beware).

I can remember saying to my ex-pat riends at the time...............quote..One day these Tamils are going to get some educated men amongst them and then the shit will hit the fan.

So Mr Johnston and the others who pass judgement without really knowing the root cause of the problem , try to understand before you shoot your mouths off after thinking that you know it all from reading the newspapers. :)

So mister, you had lived in SL for 3 years even before the problem starts in SL. So, that 3 year experience makes you qualified to surpass all the others in this forum and assume all the others should buy your one side story. I guess I am a bit over qualified than you because I lived there 27 years and because I was born there!

Tamil problem in SL is purely SL affair and it has nothing to do with Thailand or rest of the other countries. We Singhalese do not need character certificates from other nations and we don’t intend discuss our internal problems here.

    Since you are swearing against my country, government of my country and pretend to be an expert of tamil terrorist problem in SL can you educated all of us by answering few questions;

1.What is the discrimination against tamils in Srilanka?

2.What is the thing that a person can’t achieve in Srilanka because he/she is a tamil?

3.What is the % of tamils live in North/East against the whole Tamil population in SL?

    Now these are bit tricky

4.Which country in the world accepts 18% minority language as an official language par with majority language and force the majority to learn minority language?

5.Which country in the world requires majority to share power 50/50 with minority of 18%?

6.Which country ready to give 1/3 of the land and sea rights to 18% minority to declare a state exclusively for that particular race?

If you can come up with some logical answers to above as a srilankan I consider you’re qualified to pass judgments against my country. If not your simply parroting something that you heard from a BBC or from a tamil terrorist!

  10. To Mr Johnson and the others..............YES i lived and worked in Sri Lanka (Ceylon in those days) for 3 years in the 50's.

Totaly agree with you, most people don't understand racism is a worldwide problem... Having been married to a singhalese woman, i know singhala racism from it's ugliest sides... :D

Then why are you sleeping with a racist Singhalese?

  11. I have been to Sri Lanka a couple of times, spending a total of four months there in all. Yes the culture is much more like that of India than SE Asia. I enjoyed my stays there very much and look forward to future visits.

Although Buddhism is the majority religion, many Sinhalese exhibit a consistent anxiety about what they perceive as 'competing' creeds, ie, Tamil Hinduism and Christianity (including Catholicism). One hears and reads lot of rhetoric about preserving Buddhism to a point that borders on religious intolerance. Check any of the major English-language Sri Lankan news services or newspapers online and you will soon find examples of this mentality. Search the Buddhism subforum here for 'Sri Lanka' and you'll find a thread or two that goes into the history of Buddhist nationalism in Sri Lanka in more detail.

One significant difference in the way Buddhism is practiced and perceived in Sri Lanka, compared to Thailand, is that the religion is much more political there. For example, Buddhist monks have their own political party and, last I checked, there were at least nine monks sitting in Parliament.

On the other hand, this Buddhist nationalism shouldn't affect anyone visiting the country in order to practice Buddhism.

Another noticeable difference is the monastic discipline. Sri Lankan Buddhist monks don't follow the Vinaya as strictly as Thai monks with respect to, e.g., monthly head-shaving.

    Dear mr. Sabaijai,

I am glad that you had visited SriLanka before make any comments. But I am bit of mi-sabaijai for calling SL culture is more like India. SL culture is not anyway near to India. Of cause there are some minority in SL that has a culture same as India but majority (75%) Sinhalese’s culture is no part of India. So, SL is not another India. Many westerners try to link SL with India or even refer to SL people as Indians. This is purely ignorant or lack of respect to other cultures.

SL has a good history of religious harmony with other religions. Presently It is been spoiled by Evangelist who is taking advantage of the religious tolerance of SL Buddhist which I do not wish to discuss here.

A piece of advice. Next time when you visit SL do not hang around Gangaramaya Viharay. It’s a highly politicalize temple and famous because of a vocational school run by foreign donations.

There is one noticeable difference that you failed to mention or you haven’t noticed yet. In SL young men do not enter into monkhood for shot time in the name of culture or to learn or get a firsthand experience of Buddhism as Thais explain to me. In SL getting into monkhood is a one way trip. No turning back. A man is highly respected if he is able to devote himself to buddhsim as monk at the same time he will be disgraced to his family if he leave the monkhood for what ever reason.

  13. SO…..

    What is the biggest misconception……

    or

What are some of the misconceptions the thais have about you, or farangs in general?

Anything we “the thais” haven’t heard it before?

I’m pretty sure there are many thai readers or members here who are thai browsing thru this forum.

I, for one, would like to know more.

Anything that you want to let it out your chest or care to clarify,….. just shove it here.

All dark skin people are from middle east and are muslims..!

  14. You did not even buy it from a HONDA DEALER!! Did you buy it from a Ferrari dealer or a Hoover dealer?

Ur so negative on me. No they r not official HONDA dealer. They sell all kind of bikes. I don't know what r they. The only thing I know is that they offered 12K for my ex LS125R when all the other so call HONDA dealers offered 9K!

Who will be nuts to look for a HONDA bike from Car dealer..?? :o

  15. I spoke with A.P. HONDA Service Center and informed my story. First they said if the warranty card name and the invoice names r not from the same dealer, I may have a problem in the future. So, they offer me to call both shops and try to persuade the original dealer to issue me a invoice with full amount. After a while A.P. HONDA said that the first dealer is not a HONDA agent. So, they can't force them to do anything and advice me to go for the 62K invoice and speed up the registration. Considering all the troubles that I am get now, I agreed for 62K and confirm to A.P. HONDA. They will relay this to the shop. In the evening I will get my new invoice (62K) and I had to return the existing invoice with 61K.

I shall take their advise and proceed with registration. Once I get my registration and confirm with the department I may think of a way to teach her lesson. Again, those of you who says registration takes days or months, AP HONDA said all those delays are the fault of dealers. If one can submit all the necessary documents in time it will not take more than 2 days, maximum...I do not wish to argue about it anymore since I didn't speak to anyone from the department yet. Hope someone shall do it and educate all of us.

  16. Sorry people I just want to pull this story to the land of 1001 tails, as w only have one person to verify his claim, and his claim seem not damaging in any way.

I personal have the feeling it is never happened. I personal know the wholesale price of a CBR-150R and as others said with all the free it is almost impossible to make provide.

Amal can you give us the first 8 numbers and he last 3 numbers of your serial number?

Okay, I can give you all the numbers. Hope it won't bring any harm to me. It is NCB1500048163. The owner called us on Sunday and offered to give her own vat bill for 62,000B, 1000B more than before. I told her if she can't give the invoice for the total amount, I may have to return the bike and ask my money back. I am expecting assistance from our company Accountant. I guess she can explain the law to this lady. I learned that the bike is still not registered and she can't make up her mind to give me invoice or not! She said she can register it within a week provided I pay extra 100B....I can't understand what you people talk about 1 month. By the way, would u like to see a photo of my bike?. :o

  17. Gentalmen,

I am not crying that I lost 2,500. My only complaint is that I am not getting a proper invoice from the dealer that I bought the bike. I have no intention to claim the vat and that doesn't give them any rights to refuse me the proper invoice.

For those of u say the lead time for registration 1 month or 2 month, I am sorry my first bike that I bought from the same area took me only 5 days including registration plate and owners book. If do it by ur own it will take only 1 day. Please check with your Thai colleagues. Once u fill the proper forms and submit them they will verify them against ur supporting documents (ID, original invoice etc) and they will check the engine number and frame number. This is the drawback if u do it alone. U have to take ur bike with u. If the shop do it they will ask an agent to do it and the bugger will collect hundreds of applications and go one time. No need to present the bike. Thats why it takes so long. U can check this story with a friendly shop owner too. I had personally registered 3 bikes at my home country and it took me only 1/2 day provided I went early Moring to be 1st in the line. Thailand is much bigger and advance than my small country. It would take only 1-2 hour to register a business in Thailand (for Thai own) and I certainly don't think a bike will cost weeks or months!

Since I have an issue with them. I am sorry I can't put the subject dealer's contact details on the net. However, I can give some hints for you to find the place. Hope that it will not violate the TV rules. Once ur coming along the Srinakarin road towards Theparak junction, pass Food land and pass golf drive u can see this shop on the left side of the road. They r not a HONDA dealer. I am going to talk to some authorities on Monday and may be after that I can give exact details.

the going price of the CBR150 is not high as you people says. In this area its only 63,000 - 64,000 max. I am not sure whether Admins will burn me if I put a place where u can check this. Or can PM me and I will scan and send the address. I spoke to the owner personally and they r about 6km from my place. Nice people. His name card is in Thai and I can't read it :o

  18. to PeaceBlond and Richard_BKK,

thanks for your inputs. Yes, I love this bike very much and can't find any major issue to complain. This one is from year 2007 model with anti-thief key lock. dam_n good bike and proud to have one.

I am sorry, these people are registered for VAT. My Thai colleague just check it with the revenue department and got their VAT number too. So, it's purely cheating. Had she bought the bike from another dealer but she still can issue a proper invoice (vat bill) from her. A Thai friend of mine whom is an accountant confirm this.

I can't say all papers are on order until I get an invoice for the total amount that I paid. Hope you gentlemen will agree with me. We never discussed anything about additional chargers or service chargers during the process. It all came into lite after 21 days I paid the cash and saw the real invoice.

By the way, why the dam_n head lights can't turn off?

  19. I am not so negative about all Thai business. because when I bought my first bike, I paid the whole amount in cash and got the original invoices for the amount that I paid and every thing that they promise in time. I went to my old shop for the CBR but they quote me a bit of higher price that time. Now I am regretting for not taking it and go for a cheap shop for a cheap job!

A colleague gave the address of "Office of Consumer Protection Board". Any one thinks that I should give a try with them on Monday? I guess that they r close today

  20. Good Morning every one,

It’s been 22 days that I bought my CBR150R but I am unable to complete the documentation due to lack of support from the dealer. The most annoying thing is that the dealer refuse to give me VAT bill which I am entitle to have.

The original deal was CBR150R + free Insurance, free license plate, free helmet and a free jacket + VAT Bill, for 63,500 Baht.

I paid 63,500 in cash and received the bike on 10th Jan 2008 with a temporary invoice (without VAT but with full amount) just to prove my ownership in case authorities (Police) request. At this point I said I could not accept a temporary receipt and I need real VAT bill with my full name and address on it. The dealer promised to give one within 1 week and complete the warranty card details at the same time.

Yesterday I got the VAT bill (after 21 days!) and the warranty card. Guess what!! The VAT bill is coming form another dealer and the amount stated is 61,000 Baht! 2,500 Baht less than I paid. More ever they fill the warranty card with their name. Now I got a vat bill from dealer B and the warranty from dealer A.

I address the issue with the owner via my Thai colleague but she refuse to give me vat bill for total 63,500 baht. Instead she offered to give another receipt for the balance 2,500 Baht as a service charge.

So, the bike was really 61,000 Baht and the dealer charged me for 2,500 for the insurance and registration. The insurance is a 3rd party and it cost them only 415 Baht. The balance is for registration? After 22 days I still don’t have the registration. They asked for another 1 week. If I knew that the service charge is 2,500B I would never go for this deal and these people cleverly hide it from me until the last moment. I badly feel that I was cheated.

Has any one faced similar situation and how did you people cope with it? Am I still getting my warranty irrespectively the original invoice and the warranty card hold 2 different dealer names? I only want the dealer A to give me the VAT bill stating full amount (63,500B) without making and issue.

Is there any government agency (other than the Police) that I can ask for help?

As evidence I got below documents:

1.temporary receipt from dealer A with total 63,500B amount and my name and address on it (they should have collect it but I didn’t return it)

2.VAT bill from dealer B for 61,000B which dealer A gave to me as the original receipt with my name and address on it

3.warranty card with dealer A name on it as the seller

    Regards,

    Amal
