  1. Watching the news last night, I'm convinced I heard Tony Blair state "Anyone proven to have links with international terrorist organisations may face deportation from Britain"

What's with this "may" <deleted>? Other than deportation, are we going to have them shot?

Does it mean Britain will kick out the friendly LTTE or just ask them to change the names?. :o

  2. Pellet pistols are for sale in Mae Sai at a store front on the east side of the main street near a store that sell telescopes which you should be able to spot as you walk by...I saw some just two weeks ago...they varied in price from about 350 baht to about 1000 baht more or less.  Seems like they had batteries but I'm not sure just how they were powered

Those are the ones that fire a plastic ball and are air powered.

They sting if you shoot yourself. More of a toy.

The battery powered ones are for the fully automatic model, fires about 2 rounds per second.

Is it necessary to get a permit for a battery powered BB gun like below? I am planning to buy an AK-47s. I had tried it once and I am sure it can't kill anything bigger than a small bird.

  3. I met this very nice, dead straight Tuk-Tuk driver in Bangkok, and after buying me a few drinks ( out of his own pocket I might add), he took me to meet his family. He had quite a lot of sisters, and the front of his beautiful house was all glass, so I could see them sitting there. It brought tears to my eyes to see such a happy family. What could I do. So I took fourteen of them out for dinner. Now it just happened that Wednesday Afternoon, was a bit different from the others. Although she was a bit lazy ( the others would volunteer to walk all the way to the ATM to get some money for me) I could tell she was the one for me. So there you have it. A true love story Bambina.

So Bambina, how do u feel about this true love story :o Hard to accept right :D

  4. This can't be a coincidence, one day after London wins the bid for the 2012 Olympics.

    Quite.

Although it is much too early to speculate on those responsible.

There are members of every insane political and terrorist organisation in the world, living hidden in the labyrinth of London.

True Mr.Merton, count the F**king LTTEs whom kill thousands in my country. All terrorist from other part of the world are freedom fighters to Brits :o . They r free to live and raise funds to fuel the wars in their home countries. Its time for Brits to become series about these terrorists or soon their a**es will be on fire. Just a thought :D

My sympathy goes to all effected.

  5. Hi Amal , heres the link to that site - Buddhism and Hinduism

As for the reason Thai's label Indians and Sri Lankans as " Krake " I would have to say it is sheer ignorance and racism which , unfortunately prevails in Thailand on every level. The word "Krake" or "Kaek" ( as you probably know) means "Guest" in Thai, but it is used to describe anyone with Indian/South Asian features, and used across the board. The Thais ignorance with Buddhism outside of their country is astonishing, particularly if you consider the fact that their version of Buddhism appears to be intrinsically involved with another South Asian religion ( Hinduism). As for labelling South Asians as Muslims, again I feel it is a lack of interest in Cultures outside their own. As you say, your nations gave Buddhism to the world and this is their thanks ?

Religion is complicated enough without this bigotry.

    Peace

    :D

Thank u very much for the website :D

Yes, my Thai friends try to explain me the word Krake in theory but I told them what my experience is far different to what they say. I am grateful to Thailand and Thai people for their hospitality but I am really pissed off whenever I meet a new Thai whom thinks that I am Muslim (because of my Indian look). How the H**l they judge my nationality and religion from my ugly face? :o Another thing is why westerns are refer as “Farang” but we Asians are “Krake” (or “Guest” as u mentioned) here………I am sure Thais will never answer this :D

  6. Very good points , I believe the Thai version of Theravada Buddhism is nicknamed " Coca - Cola Buddhism " . It's not hard to see why this label has been assigned. I think to get proper answers , one would need to speak to the Monks or Abbot/Acharn in the Sangha as opposed to the Leity/Lay People.

The more I speak to my wife, the more confused I become.

    :D

I have to agree with u again. If u ask an average Thai person very basic questions regarding to Buddhism most of them are not be able to answer confidently. Just ask who are the parents of Buddha or where he was born etc…most of them are unable to answer. Buddha was born in India (its Nepal now) and as Thais think he must be a krake too. Because all Indians are Krake to them…Thais are very quite to this question :o

  7. I had a quick look on google and this proves me wrong.

I stand corrected , books in the bin. :D

    Buddhism in Thailand:

The Thai form of Buddhism is sometimes called Lankavamsa (meaning Singhalese or Sri Lankan lineage) because it was introduced to the 13th century Sukhothai Kingdom by monks from Sri Lanka. This form of Buddhism grew as the Sukhothai Kingdom expanded over Northern and Central Thailand.

However, Ayuthaya in central Thailand grew into a pwerful kingdom, and eventually annexed Sukhothai in 1376. The Thai Kings of Ayuthaya made conquests over areas of central Thailand formerly held by the Khmer Empire, which had been practicing a blend of Buddhism and Hinduism much more akin to Mahayana Buddhism than to the Sri Lankan form. The Ayuthaya kings incorporated many of these beliefs into the Buddhism they had inherited from Sukhothai. This has had a lasting effect on Thai Buddhism to this day.

    TIT I guess  :o

I am most grateful to you if u can give the goggle site :D . I read it once but cannot locate it again. I wonder why Thais call us Muslims or “Krake”. We have given them Buddhism but in return they labeled us as Muslims… :D

  8. I know for fact that many Buddhists worship Hindu Dieties.  I want to learn more about this.  Chonabot - I have seen this so many times, I must disagree with you.

Hmmm , my wife who is a devout Buddhist agrees with me. If you read about Buddhism you will see that Buddha is a man , as all Buddha's before him were men. He reached enlightenment by meditation , not by worship. Buddhism differs from other life systems as there is no God or godhead to worship.

These are facts. But then again This is Thailand. :D

I may have to delve deeper.

    :D

I agree with u sir. I am Buddhist from Srilanka. I am not sure Buddhist belives in Thailand but over there we do not accept worshiping gods as its something no one can prove.. :o

  9. Well, just checked with the hubby to make sure I didn't miss anything.  He says no way, less than 200 baht.  I will add one thing though; the first time I got my DL here I had my CDL, passport, and housebook with me.  2nd time just CDL and passport.  So if you don't believe me I guess it's your problem, can't convince you.

    Beachbunny

I don't think anyone disbelieves you but your experience doesn't sound too much different from most others. Fees are 105 baht for a one-year licence and 505 baht for the 5-year.

Well guys, I am driving here almost 8 years now and I guess I should speak up about my experience too. :D I got my Thai DL using AA issued IDL from my country. I had to submit a letter from Embassy 750.00B, IDL from my home country (nearly expired, 5 days left), copies of my passport and work permit, medical certificate 50.00B. I was tested for colour blindness and of cause I failed :o . But since I didn’t speak in Thai to the officer he didn’t realize my handicap. He thought I couldn’t understand him :D . The whole process took only 2 hours and I got my Thai DL for 1 year cost 50.50B. Every year I try to renew it 1 or 2 days before the expiration day and 3 times I got it renewed as 1 year. Two years back they gave me 5 year straight but I never bother to find out why :D .

  10. My Gf like most thais cannot say words starting with the letter "r".

Loom, load, lat, lound you get my drift.

no matter how many times i try and make her say "RRRRRRRRRR" "r" it always comes out "LLLLLLLL" "L"

    but ive almost cracked it.

She can say "errr" so i make her say "err - oom"

she keeps repeating it, putting the 2 together getting faster and faster until it comes out perfect!

"well done" i say, "now say it again"

    "loom"

    Why?????

    :D   :D  :D

This is common in China, Japan and Thais and has to do with the soft tongue. This is also why your pronunciation of some words in Thai sound so weird.

Rather than think of R use a "swallowed Ah" and tell her to hold the tip of her tongue down.

There is a famous and funny book in Japan called "Is that R as in London? No, it is L as in Rome." In which the person actually then got the spelling correct!

its not funny guys, Thais pronounce my name as AMAN and they write it as AMAR (It must be AMAL) :o . I am not offended :D but it’s strange :D .

  11. My ex was very keen to learn all about Thai language (speaking,Writing and Reading). I asked him to say "sua sai sue non sua" (a tiger wears a shirt, sleeps on a mat) and he couldn't pronounce it correctly. What he said was "a mat wears a tiger, sleeps on a shirt!

But, it's been one year and he speaks excellent Thai now. :o

Ask your GF to say that for you.  I bet you wouldn't make it right, but it's fun to try and good laugh for your GF. LOL

I had couple of T Girls confused me with the word accident. One of them said today I have accident! The other one in another time (happens to be our secretary) said “when I have accident ever month”. :D

guess what they all mean....... :D

  12. And, does any of your significant others completely mix Thai and English even in one sentence or even mid-word? Just now 5 seconds
    ago:
how this one from my wife " I mai loo put tee ni",  Translates to " I dont know where I put it".

But you are right i do it all the time as well

Hay buddy Thamode97, half of ur sentence is thai and other half is english, right :o

Come on tell them about it.... :D

  13. why you doing this ..? what you  mean by this  ?  if you want to go to paradise , and you thinks that Buddhism take you there in easy way , you wrong  . in this case no  one can help you   for this traveling front of God . you see around your self , a billion of people of this earth from different religion , and all are sure one 100 % that they are going  to paradise . but no one of them ready to died . changing of religion not help  you at all . even make you more confuse and low moral in future . be what ever you are and start love every things of this earth . even your enemy .and tray to know how to understand your self .

so much for the positive input...

I'm going to be living in Thailand long term, I feel that exploring Buddhism will be a way to help me assimilate into the culture. At the moment I have still to explore what Buddhism can offer me. At the moment I am only looking for advice from people that have done something similar already. You have made these presumptions that - frankly - are none of your business.

Look, I've been to many countries in the world, where different people practice religion in many different ways and I feel that buddhism says a lot more to me than anything else. Should I remain a christian just because of an accident of birth? Even when I don't practice christianity anyway. In the past 5 years I've not even been to church, yet I have visited the temple in my wife's village may times.

It is to my understanding that u want to be a buddhist to keep ur wife happy! Isn't it unfare to call "this is none of ur business" as ur the one who post it here... :o

  14. I would say he is a troll, new member with only negative posts concerning Thai people in a Thai related forum, is that not trolling?

When people post negative things about Thailand people a lot of people in this forum seem to get upset . I suspect this is because a lot of us sometimes think ina similar way. If you are being honest you might admit to yourdelf that a lot of people out here consider you nothing more than a walking ATM. Some of these people really hate us, and there is an accepted culture to "rip off the falang" also with wealthy Thais. Those of us who have tried being kind and gernourous and treating the Thais nicely and have been stung might realise that you actually get a lot further in this country by being dismissive towards the locals, treating them as your serfs, not getting to close or personal. It is a real shame, the more respect you give someone and the more you open up - the more they will disrespect you and use this against you.

Most of them get upset because they may have some connection to Thailand via TG or TW or they had stay here for a while. Been grateful to Thailand is OK but one must speak from their heart. I hardly doubt any of you haven’t been ripped off at least once in LOS :o
