  1. Previously I used to buy Cathedral Cheddar at Villa.  Pretty good value, THB 209 for 250g.  Now it's THB 320!  Switched to Mainland from Makro but as has been mentioned above it's been out of stock for some while, replaced with a pretty bland (albeit cheap) HoReCa cheddar at THB 349 per kilo.  I tried as we were out of cheese and I was done on the cheese hunt for that day.  At a real push I suppose it's OK for grating onto whatever but it really is bland otherwise.  Can't expect much else for the price I guess.  Mainland has been out at all the places I shop (and can be bothered to go to) so I'm guessing there's a freighter due soon.

I also used to buy Brooke baked beans in preference to Heinz, not much cheaper but a bit.  Tasted just as good but again, not seen any for a year or more now, mostly replaced with Watties that are not so nice.

Mostly I try to buy from Food Variety via Shopee, it's delivery prices are cheaper than Siamburi mostly.

I am getting this Subscribe to AN now for the past week. Is it a virus or something set up by AN?

I'm getting the same annoying "Subscribe to Asian Now" yellow box ad EVERY time I visit the site.  There's also no way to select a "Don't ask again" option with it.  Getting close to pull the plug time with all this junk.

  3. Just by way of an update to this (in case someone comes across this thread, pondering the same questions in the future), still fairly happy with the Dunlopillo Ecstasy mattress we bought aside from one thing.  It is fairly significant problem though.  It weighs a ton!  Or to be precise 200Kg!

I knew latex mattresses are heavy but I didn't realise exactly HOW heavy and it's something I forget to physically check in the store.  I wrongly assumed it would be about the same as the Omazz Falcohn we had, also latex, and could thus be flipped easily.  No way can the Ecstasy be flipped unless you have 3 other guys to help you do it.  2, maybe if they are strong burly guys.

The Falcohn here was around THB 80,000 when we were looking, the Ecstasy we got for 40K approx.  Were I shopping again, I'd go for the Falcohn for sure, so much so that we are thinking of getting rid of the Ecstasy, selling it second hand while it is still in excellent condition.  The weight is THAT much of a PITA.

And besides Bang Sue I just got some crossfeed on a LINE group I'm part of it....the crossfeed is basically a poster/flyer saying on Saturday/today/23 July from 1pm to 4pm at the 69 govt health centers in Bangkok walk-in vaccinations/booster are available.  Just bring your Thai ID card or foreign passport.

Lots of options to get free jabs in Bangkok although finding out where and when seems to be by social media grapevine/crossfeed.

Those looking for local vaccinations sites can download the QueQ mobile phone app and, once registered, you can select 'Vaccination Centres' and it will bring up a list of all the vax sites that are currently active, you can then register / book.  It's in Thai so folks that can't read Thai will need assistance from someone that does (not hard to find here though ????).  Easier than trawling through the various social media feeds, the CCSA/C19 page also gets updates with new sites as they open up but they too get quickly buried under the update / general info posts (and FB search is pretty erratic in terms of effectiveness).

    Indeed that was my understanding.

Has been pointed out earlier in the thread that the proof of monthly transfers was not required for previous 12 months.

So you can obtain an extension based on income method.....then make zero transfers into your account and switch to money in bank method for your next extension. Strange.

We can never be sure I suppose but my suspicion is that people who have got away with doing that just got lucky.  It does seem strange though, and as I said, when I went to transfer the stamps into my new passport that did check that I had been complying since renewal.  Seems odd they'd bother about a few months but then not care about a whole year.  If I had to do the change in method again though I'd still take both sets of documents, either that or renew early and be prepared to have to go to Immigration again.  For me though, preparing both sets of documents was less less of a PITA than having to go home, start again and go to Immigration a second time.

Definitely not the case at Rayong in my experience - see my first previous posting.

I had the same experience at Bangkok when I switched this year.  I'd prepared all the documents to show that I had complied with the previous 12 months of transfers since the last extension (bit of a PITA I thought as you essentially have to comply with both sets of conditions) but the IO wasn't interested.

That said, personally I think it's better to have the documentation, particularly if you are applying for a renewal very close to the expiry date (leaving you less time to sort stuff out) simply because one cannot predict whether they will be required either because of a dictate from the local (or even national) boss or because the IO is being very diligent or even just bloody minded.  Technically I would have thought they should check that you have complied with the conditions of the extension you were granted previously (I even had to get my passbook updated to show the monthly transfers in when I renewed my passport, but after I applied for my extension, the year before last when I took it in to get the stamps transferred).  Not being asked to show the proof, as in the case when I switched method, doesn't mean the IO shouldn't or won't ask IMO.
