  1. It would seem that the Pheu Thai party is really peeved at not being invited. They stated a few times before that they would not cooperate and not obstruct and adapt a 'wait-and-so' stance for the time till reforms and charter activities got more form.

Somehow it seems they are now annoyed taken by their word that they wouldn't cooperate. " 'not invited', tjeez did the NRC, CDC, whoever think we really meant it?"

As I wrote before, an overwhelming response could have had positive influences.

"I warned you, but did you listen to me? Oh, no, you knew it all, didn't you?"

    With thanks to Monty Python

It would seem that the Pheu Thai party is really peeved at not being invited.

Despite your attempt to portray a political parties decision not to take part in any type of charter writing process which has come about as the result of a coup that removed democracy from Thailand, as some sort of petulance, it is more likely that the clarification of the PTP's position was due to this erroneous report

The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) says it welcomes opinions from all sectors, and various political parties have already accepted its invitation to discuss the charter drafting.

The CDC is scheduled to hold discussions with those parties on the following dates: November 17th with the Pheu Thai Party,.........................

  2. 682 billion baht lost.......................thais should read the news and say something about this new.....with that money you can build quiet a few university and hospital or renew at least the materiel....but these people who permit such things are criminals

    coffee1.gif

or one could get 3 years 6 months of military expenditure (at 2013 rates), or a coup* - they don't come cheap in terms of GDP...........................coffee1.gif

( * Paul Collier, a professor of economics at Oxford who has noted that coups “are not a cheap way of replacing a government, calculates that the cumulative effect of a coup, tracked over several years, is to reduce incomes by 7%.) http://www.economist.com/blogs/banyan/2014/10/thailands-economy

  3. The old General really is trying to piss off the US, UK and Europe... going on the sides of China and Russia... he's playing a dangerous game!

Au contraire. The French, along with the rest of the EU have today called for democratic elections by October 2016 and have stated Thailand will be boycotted by EU leaders until this takes place. Bearing in mind the US have of course 'expressed their concern' also, Prayuth has nowhere else to turn to for comfort passifier.gif.pagespeed.ce.4LsapYv4zC.gi BUT China and Russia. But he should be aware that when you lie down with dogs you pick up a lot of fleas.

You are referring to the interview with the the ambassador of France with the "other" paper I guess.

I can't quote the article but I urge people to read it. I thought it was very positive for Thailand.

Sure, if you regard the European Union Countries banning all official trips to and from Thailand, reiterating the need for the "government" to return to democratic constitutional rule, with free and transparent elections to be held in October 2015, and that they would be keeping a close watch on developments, you could say it was..........................

    "very positive for Thailand"..............................coffee1.gif

  4. This is the official account of this historic meeting from the English Language Russian Government site,

(by the way, perhaps dress down Friday is held on a Wednesday in Burma

and they obviously didn't get the memo about O'Cha's name change).

A Freudian slip? October 2015 was the date stated by the French, though even your date is looking very optimistic...........................coffee1.gif

  6. Ex-Democrat MP sentenced to death

Perhaps it might finally put to death the repeated claims that Democrats are never held accountable by the courts, but, probably, it won't

    .

and finally put to rest the repeated claims that the Democrats are the good guys and protectors of democracy.

The case itself has no political affiliations - it was a "dispute" over a woman which Khanchit Thapsuwan decided was best resolved by murdering his "rival".

However, at the time, abhisit did reveal that the police had made a request of the House Speaker seeking permission to question Thapsuwan. The "ever decisive" abhisit didn't have the guts to agree for that to happen, even though his MP had been accused of premeditated murder, and said that it was up to parliament to decide.

Meanwhile the dems lawyer, MP Niphit Intharasombat argued that Thapsuwan should be allowed to remain an MP sitting in parliament with his fellow dem MP's until the court case was finalised - and that was what happened, as abhisit obviously didn't see anything wrong with having an accused (and now proven) murderer (with eyewitnesses and video evidence - despite what TeamKorn were to reiterate at the time*) as a still serving member of his political party, not even a whiff of a suspension from duties........................

Then Korn Chaticavanij got into the act of trying to make political capital out of it on the risible TeamKorn facebook page*

Today, Team-Korn would like to share some interesting observations made by Komchadluek newspaper yesterday regarding Democrat MP Khanchit Thapsuwan's alleged involvement in the murder of Samut Sakhon Provincial Administration Organisation president Udon Kraiwatnussorn.

    - The only eyewitness testimony came from the victim's driver.

    - Do the police actually have enough hard evidence in linking the murder of Khun Udon to MP Khanchit Thapsuwan and the Democrat Party? Or was the call politically motivated?

    - In a similar case, why has the police not linked the murder of Chutidet Suwannakerd (Democrat Party canvasser in Don Muang murdered in early December 2011) to any political parties?

    https://www.facebook.com/teamkornENG/posts/300943893274923

Neither abhisit nor Korn came out of this with any kind of dignity...............................coffee1.gif

  7. Ahbisit will fit nicely in this like minded group. Obviously PT don't.

You are dead right Eric, Abhisit has the ability to think for himself while PT still rely on "thaksin thinks....................."

    And of course thaksin orders.

Abhisit has enough common sense to know that if you want your ideas included you must be in there and be heard, not stand in a corner and sulk waiting to complain about anything that doesn't suit you.

Though he does have the propensity to order his MP's to boycott elections (2) and Parliamentary Bills (who knows how many times) when he doesn't get his way. That to me, is the political equivalent of standing in the corner and sulking. I won't go into the number of times the Democrat Party legal beagles have swung into action complaining to whichever court will listen to them......................coffee1.gif

  8. Agreed , but in practice they'd all be accusing each other of all sorts of past transgressions and then there'd be the counter defamation law suits and we'd end up with about 3 people in Thailand who were "Clean"

I say blank canvas is the only way to go , I'm not a fan of whats happened with the coup but one thing that cannot be denied is on the surface the bitter fighting has stopped . It gives everyone a chance to start again.

A blanket canvas might be the right way to go for you, but 82% of the Thai population disagree with you and one should have listened to the will of the people shouldn't they?

Give them amnesty then in 5 years when 25 000 more corruption cases come up give them amnesty as well.

    Amnesty shows that crime pays.

    It doesn't pay sonny Jim.

Criminals want amnesty. The public don't.

Criminals want amnesty. The public don't.

Bearing that in mind, what are your thoughts on Section 309 of the 2007 Constitution and Section 48 of the 2014 Interim constitution. In case you're not aware those sections provide an amnesty for all actions committed by those responsible for launching the last two coups. The very act of launching a coup is a criminal act, until amnesties are written into the replacement constitutions by the very same people that carried out those criminal acts. That can't be right, can it?

I'll grant you that (according to police estimates) although maybe 200,000 people protested against the ill conceived Amnesty Bill, it's a bit of a leap of the imagination to make that claim on behalf of all the public. The protest should have stopped once the Senate had rejected the Bill - but what followed was the hijacking of that protest by "ex" and serving members of the democrat party to turn it into a campaign to overthrow the government (which had been the plan all along)

As tens of thousands of anti-government protesters remained on the streets in parts of Bangkok on Monday night, a spokesperson for the Pheu Thai party said the governing coalition would not bring the amnesty bill back to parliament.

"We believe from tomorrow the political crisis will start to ease as there are no reasons to maintain the protest," said Pormpong Nopparit.

But the opposition has urged its supporters to observe a three-day national strike, beginning on Wednesday, in what correspondents say has turned into a campaign to bring down the government.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-24903958

Then again, maybe amnesties do show that crime pays - at least as far as coups go...............................coffee1.gif

  9. While I do not agree with police earning extra revenue for advertising, when I first came here I was informed that a lot of the police kiosks were either paid for or built for free by local companies, in which case (if true) advertising the sponsor would be fair.

Even in the UK the police are no strangers to advertising - though I do feel that the advertising agency could have thought things through a bit more and foreseen the implications of a strategically placed bus exhaust - can't think why "Police Community Support Officer", Annette, is smiling though.....................coffee1.gif

  10. Which is the greater crime?

A - Legally attempting to alter 1 section of the constitution in parliament.

B - Throwing out the entire constitution at gunpoint.

Any response to this post need only consist of a single A or a single B - no distortions, propaganda, obfuscations, falsities, outright lies, avoidance, misdirection or waffling required.

Default answer is B - lack of response is acknowledgement of B being the correct answer.

Why does it matter which one is the greater crime, if they are both crimes?

Where is the crime in legally attempting to alter one section of the constitution in line with the guidelines laid down by the Constitutional Court?

  11. angmo post # 6

Interesting that they want to impeach two guys who tried to change part of the Constitution through parliamentary procedure even if a little fishy. Wonder what they would do to someone who ripped up the entire Constitution

That was the ultimate of those involved in the administration at that time by devious means.Their acts have led Thailand and its peoples to where we are now

Complete bullshine. What devious means did the administration at that time employ? Do you even know, or is this just a "go along with the flow and argue the toss because it's something to do with the PTP" type argument?

Surely you can't mean the attempts to amend the constitution in line with the guidelines of the Constitutional Court?..........................coffee1.gif

When trying to sneak through a fraudulently altered motion at 3 am is not enough for you... But we now what kind of 'opinions' you propagate, so...

Ah. I knew it would come out eventually.

Perhaps you could explain how a bill that was debated for 19 hours, after which the "opposition", such as they were, walked out, which then passed the 2nd and 3rd readings with ease, as Bills with no opposition available because of their boycott to vote against it tend to do, is somehow the result of "devious means" ?

  12. Someone's going to get his wrist slapped. Only yesterday;

Martial law still on across Thailand

    5 November 2014

The Thai government has no plans yet to lift martial law imposed nationwide since last May, even during the 4th Asian Beach Games which will be held in Phuket on Nov 14 to 23.

"No, (we) have yet to talk about it," said Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha when asked by the media whether the government had plans to lift the martial law.

He made the remark after meeting at the Government House with Thailand's athletes, coaches and staff who will be participating in the Asian Beach Games.

  14. The country is incapable of zoning anything. Look at Bangkok or any city. You never know if a Karaoke shop will start next door. Tourism is no different, and shows the issue even better.

Name one place that has been zoned properly, developed with an intent to maintain cleanliness, natural beauty, space, and aesthetics such as noise and visual images, whether architecture design or billboards, etc.

    Name one.

    I can't.

Last time I was on Koh Pang Gnan was 1991. We stayed in a hut on the beach. I dont think there were more than one or 2 guest houses and maybe a restaurant. I dont recall electricity. I do recall a guy who lived there in some place who had a pet bear. A black bear. It was very hot and on a leash, slept most of the day.

I have trouble imaging a hot bear, but hey ho, each to their own, maybe the drugs were more powerful back then but for the life of me I can't remember.............................coffee1.gif

  15. My brother's house caught fire 3 years ago on ok pansaa due to lanterns.

    Death is a bit severe.

If he and 400 other people had been locked inside while it burned what would you have said?

    He's got a big house?............................coffee1.gif

He hasn't any more has he. Just like the 400 in the airliner don't have an airplane.

Oh, Lighten up, hah, see what I did there.................................coffee1.gif

  16. If they don't fire at each other on their political disputes, they have to fire something to cause damage to others and even themselves.

Ban the lanterns all together, ban the fireworks, what's the point of them?

Tradition , Culture, that sort of thing. You know, that which compels adult military men in Greece to wear uniforms that includes a foustenella which to the rest of the world resembles a woman's skirt.............................coffee1.gif

  17. The prime minister also disclosed that personally, he had no plans for Loy Krathong.

According to H.M. King Rama IV, writing in 1863, it was a Brahmanical festival that was adapted by Thai Buddhists in Thailand to honor Buddha, Prince Siddhartha Gautama. The candle venerates the Buddha with light, while the krathong's floating symbolizes letting go of all one's hatred, anger, and defilements.

Maybe worth making plans for, after all................................coffee1.gif

  18. Reality check:

    - The general is a general, he's not a slick politician.

    - He no doubt wishes, after the event, that he hadn't used some words, phrases, etc.

    - Right now Thailand doesn't need slick politicians, it does need a man who can use his power to quiet things down and achieve some desperately needed reforms, which will ultimately put the country back into the hands of the good people of Thailand.

    - Let's be honest, 99% of Thailand past slick politicians don't want reforms in fact they would have no hesitation to make changes which make it easier for them to rape the country. And many of these people are capable of slick PR / slick words, but often quite dishonest.

    Go general go.

For once I agree with you. Well, actually only the last sentence, but hey...........................coffee1.gif
