  1. I do not see any strange in this storey.

On every ATM card I have there is an "expired date", YOUR responsibility and YOUR responsibility alone to renew it before it expires - period.

You can only closed a bank account at the same bank you opened it OR you withdraw all your money and not use it anymore for two years, then the bank will close it automatically

Without a work permit, your can't open a bank account - some banks and branches do yes but legally NOT allowed.

Last and not least DON'T use your logic in Thailand, it will not / never work here!

Basically - if you want to live here follow their rules and don't try to implement your rules ......

    Absolutely right, apart from...

"Without a work permit, your can't open a bank account - some banks and branches do yes but legally NOT allowed."

The Bank of Thailand imposes no such restriction, some individuals in some individual banks, incorrectly, do though.

I have never had a work permit, but i have 3 different bank accounts. Are you saying my accounts are illegal? Don't think so....
  2. Quote] But few in the media or diplomatic circles have asked the more important question: Where have the rich Arab countries been over the last few years, as the Syrian civil war has raged and millions of refugees have fled to neighboring countries?

I just had to check Google Maps.....yep, Germany, Britain, Sweden is right next door to Syria...

  3. So are you just living alone in her house, in the middle of nowhere in Thailand? Sounds to me like it's time to move on - she might have used you for a Green Card, but she's working to provide a better life for her kids and letting you stay in her house. It sounds like the relationship is over, so why not move out of the village and look for a fresh start elsewhere? It doesn't sound like you have anything to lose.

Try reading the opening post again....you will find he's already done that.
  4. Why not just use an international driving license issued by your home country?

Look up the rules on that mate, they are only valid for driving in Thailand for 3 months, even if it is issued for 1 year, so you would be breaking the law after that period. also, your insurance would be invalid, if they find out you were driving illegally.
Like anyone would know the fine print. How would someone determine how long a foreigner has been in Thailand? Everything is skin deep here once they see a foreigner they'll be like ok he has a valid international driving permit - check off you go then.

Remember where you are this is Thailand not Australia or the USA.

It's the same thing with tax refunds at the airport. In theory resident foreigners aren't eligible nor is anyone who has spent more than 180 days in the country. But do they check that? Nooo...a foreigner in Thailand is always a tourist even if they live and work here and so just showing your foreign passport validates that in the minds of the tax refund people - once they sight your foreign passport your tax refund will be processed.

i think its called a visa mate....that's how they know how long you have been here, if you have an accident which involves insurance, you can be damn sure they will check if its valid or not. Any reason not to pay out. Read the law on permits, if you want to take the risk, its up to you, go for it. But if you harm one of my family outside the law, you better like hospital food...

Yeah I'm sure a cop would spend an hour reading through your passport trying to figure out how to read immigration stamps not even in Thai - they'd probably need to ask you or call an interpreter. Would be too complicated, time consuming and just doesn't happen in the real world.

If you have first class insurance, they'll pay for everything. Drive up a tree and they'll still pay.

    No insurance no pay.

It's that simple here in Thailand. Don't make assumptions that don't exist here...mate.

Seems like you have no regard for the law. Are you the type that drives drunk, and then just buys your way out of trouble? Probably.

Maybe one day you could kill someone, then say "how much to get off officer?" No regard for other people.

  6. You go into UdonThani immigration and file a tM28 with your new address and proof. Then you hope that they will allow you to do the 90 day report at UdonThani and not make you go back to Chonburi. I would wait until Friday to do it that way you could do both at the same time. 90 day reports can be done 15 days early.

Or send the 90 day report to Chonburi by EMS

And what address would he put on the return envelope?

Udon! That's not the address registered with Chonburi Immigration.

Chonburi! He's moved to Udon so collecting his next report slip could be a problem.

I have moved from there to Korat, and i put my Korat address on the envelope, and i put 40 baht in for them to send back via EMS, otherwise they send by normal post, and it has gone awol before...works for me.

I am now registered living in Korat, but they wont do my 90 day report at Korat Immo.

Then Korat are misinterpreting the orders given last year that 90 day reports must be completed at the office who issued the extension.

That is the case, unless you follow the correct procedure to change address.

If you follow the procedure (TM28 and TM30), then you should be able to report to the Imm office where you lodged your new details.

Had the same problem at Amnat though, but after a lengthy debate they changed their stance.

I 've done the TM28 thing, Been there, done that....but Dan Kwian immo is a different animal to most immos, they don't care, i have tried, i tell them i am registered in Korat, but they just look at my extension from Jomtien, and say "go Chonburi".

I have given up, it doesnt really bother me to be honest, i'm not worried about it at all, i just mail it in now, no probs. i have friends in Jomtien immo, so I won't mind having a mini-break in Pattaya to renew there if i have to, only because its hastle free, and can meet old mates for a game of golf, and a night or 2 on the piss, and stock up on things not readily available in Korat. Its no problem to me.

  7. Yeah - noticed - but it's Google, they are always messing with their logo.....

In silicon valley any idea you get while working for them belongs to the company....It's a fairly standard procedure/sign off as part of the job package - don't sign = no job....

Some IBM employees learned that the hard way on intellectual properties done off the job but still employed by IBM - they own you 24 hours a day.....The guy that thought of the stickem's - post it notes for 3M never saw a dime......

Who have they just employed then, Some 9 year olds?
  8. Sorry Alien365 you beat me to it...

Mai pen rai. I was looking forward to this event and was ready to buy tickets today but i saw that it clashes with a table tennis tournament in Pattaya. (tickets already bought on Thai ticket major) so I will wait for the next time. Or just go back to the UK and watch Wimbledon, A lot cooler than the US open seems to be at the moment.
My twin and I used to go to Wimbledon regularly...he was a member of the tennis club, and got tickets every year. Its a real shame his Mrs didn't like tennis, so i had to go instead, bummer eh?

Funny you should say about the table tennis, we were also thinking of taking a trip to Pattaya to watch it. He played, but i just watch, I'm a golfer myself.

I hope there will be a big turn out this year, the China team are playing and Sawattebut is playing really well. Tickets are much cheaper too in comparison to the tennis. But still Novak v Rafa, that's always going to be a great match to watch and I would have loved to have made it this time round. (Only golf I've seen here was the LPGA in Pattaya too, they're incredibly good, their drives are as straight as a die)
I like watching the girlies play, went there 2 years ago.

Watching the 'big boys' play is always great fun, they are like robots. The girls are better to watch because they play a similar game to us, although they make a lot fewer mistakes than me...haha, I can whack it out there, and if i can find it, I whack it again!

I love watching live sport, even like watching foot-volleyball, or volley-football, (whatever its called), in Korat.

Are you trying to tell me I should stick with a girl who refers to me as 'the farang'? Not sure...

I think i am old enough now to decide for myself.

I aint telling you anything, as you say your old enuf and if you think being the called 'the farang' bodes well for your relationship,, than all's cool

It doesnt bode well for me, thats my point....tut, over and out.
  10. Many many Traffic Roundabouts in the UK have Traffic lights.

    Its really very common.

What's the point with a roundabout then? That is my question... surely the meaning of having a roundabout is so that the traffic can flow without traffic lights?

Normally, it would be for smaller roads to get a chance to enter the roundabout, because the main throughfare would be so busy with traffic, there was no gaps to enter. Hence, stopping the busy flow to allow entry from the 'sides'.

It was done for that reason in my old town anyway...

  11. What was the sentence she used. Without that no one can give you a definitive answer.wai2.gif

I can answer, if my gf called me 'the farang' ( she wouldnt do,thats why she's my gf) she would be EX gf...i don't care what context it was said...end of. She has a name, and I have a name, if they havent got the respect to use it, then i don't respect them.

Depends on whether Farang was used as an adjective or noun as has been discussed many times in this thread. Rather than repeat the many examples I would suggest you look above.
No thank you....i do know the difference thanks....don't need your advice on the thai language.
  12. is there aircon in the workshop? If not then i also would walk slow. And if the customer had problems with that i would even need a break.

And why did you order an overhauled pump? Overhauled in Thailand? Just order a new one if the car is worth it, or buy another car.

The mechanics can't help the fact the pump might not be good and a leaking nozzle doesn't have to be the mechanics fault. If i was them i would have never showed you the leak or even enter the workshop. Cheap fallang orders cheap parts and then blames the mechanics.

But i hope it all will be fixed soon. If the car uses oil then buy another one or just a whole new engine or a used one with low mileage.

This shop overhauls all sorts of Diesel pumps and nozzles.Would you buy a new engine, if you only need new piston rings and a new cylinder head gasket?

The mechanics overhauled the pump and the nozzles, but one nozzle was leaking and the mechanic put the pump in, but with the wrong timing.

BTW, I saw the leaking nozzle and i assume that it's my right as a customer to point that out when they're asking for relatively good money. In this case 7,600 baht.

2,500 for a new water pump, which turned out that it was leaking, after only 20 K. Considering that they had to take a lot of parts off that I could see the leaking water pump, common sense to get it changed.

I'm living off a salary that doesn't allow me to buy a new car and i don't want a new car. All i wanted was to get my Diesel pump fixed.

It got dark and I'll have to be back Monday morning. Glad that I didn't pay yet.

Do you want a new wife when your wife get's sick? Just asking............facepalm.gif

You do not seem to live here longer, do you? blink.png

No only 15 years here sir, not vely much. And only repairing cars for 30 years, also peanuts.

new waterpump, new clutch, new pistonrings, new dieselpump, nozzles and i even didn't read part1.

Why would the mechanics run for you? Did you bring them something from the 711?

And what does 20.000 km say about a waterpump? 2500 says much more, that it's too cheap. 20.000 km in traffic jam is the same as 100.000 on highways.

Well good luck with it, i guess part3 will come soon but i'm not gonna read it.

    See ya....

I went to the hospital, had scans, blood tests, etc, but they found nothing.

Then a couple of months later, he did the same, and surprise, they found nothing....it stopped after a month or so, and hasnt returned, same my brother.
