  1. The Chinese phones such as One Plus, Xiaomi, Lenovo, ect are good but they lack the polish of the high end Samsungs, LG's and especially Apple.

I've owned several Lenovo's and a few others and while they generally do the job, there seems a constant presence of little problems, especially with underlying Chinese apps that seem to appear out of nowhere and defy attempts to get rid of them. Poorly translated messages and warnings leave the user scratching their heads wondering what they mean and finding the source of unwanted notifications can be a challenge. Lenovo's seem to get a lot of unwanted apps constantly trying to install themselves.

It really can take a while to figure one of these phones out...if ever.

Often too, specs aren't what they say, especially regarding battery power and camera resolution. GPS in many MediaTec processors is very poor although it has recently improved according to press reports. I have also had dual SIM and WiFi problems with Lenovo's.

Though not an Apple fan, I can understand why people pay big bucks for I-phones. They are seamless, slick and do what you want done with little fuss and bother. Take one out of the box and in five minutes you know almost everything you need to know to make use of it.

Though Samsung's share the Android complexity of the Chinese phones, they too are slick, very appealing devices. Their displays are the best around and performance is always near the top. A friend has the new Note-5 and it is truly a beautiful piece of hardware and I fully understand those who can afford it, buying it.

The new Xiaomi's, One Plus's, Jiayu's ect. may come close in certain areas and hit the high Antutu benchmark scores but none that I have yet seen has the full package like the Samsung Note-5 or Galaxy S6.

All that said; I will happily spend $200 for a phone that does what I need with maybe a few hiccups rather than $600++ for transitory perfection.

Well said....I have the S6 edge+, and it truly is top notch, but i still think i will go for the iPhone6S+ when its fully available in LoS. Maybe it is now, but i will wait for it to come down a little in price.

By the way, i got nearly 5,000 bahts worth of freebies with the Samsung, wireless fast-charger, a nice cover-case, screen saver, even a neck pillow...555.

Free,, get real, they just cut their vast profit margin. You still paid for it.

Sent from my GT-I9000 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

You know what i mean, you are just being pedantic...we all know you don't get anything for nothing.

I called it freebies, because it was something for no EXTRA cost, ok?

Please tell me what else i could have called it?? you people, got nothing else to do today? Jeez!

  2. Check out the new Samsung Galaxy J7 and J5. Most of the bells and whistles of the top models at a cost under $300.

I just got a J5 with screen protector and case for 7000 baht.

Or (if you can afford real quality) the S6....the J5 and 7 is just a 'poor man's' S6, for those who dream of having a top smart phone, but cannot afford it, or are too tight to buy one...haha, sorry, only kidding....true though.

  4. ...we used to pay 500 bht, but some people, 1 or more, complained in Korat, so they don't issue them anymore, now everyone has to suffer because some tightass wouldn't pay the 500 baht. Its not even that often you need one, its not like its a fortune.

I had to renew my passport last week, i had to go to a lawyer to have my driving licence translated into english (address), for proof of residence. That was a few hundred baht, plus running around making copies, so now we still have to pay up, why rock the boat? Have you seen what some of these people earn?

I love corruption myself, at places like Amphur, do you want to sit there all day, or pay 1,000 baht, and be out in 15 minutes?? Up to you, but i choose the quick way.

  5. if you are complainig about the 300B for certification of residency, i would not be surprised very soon it will be 500B like at some other immigration offices now....the reason why I am getting a yellow book.

This dokument It`s free you don`under stand that.

I cursed when I was leaving Jomtein immigration last Fri for paying 300B for a piece of paper. I agree it should be free. How do they get away with it? I remember sometime ago someone on TV explained since this service is not on the list of immigration services, they consider this extra work and decided to charge without receipt. I am not saying this is right.

Since 8 years ago I have been paying 200B for each at JOmtein, it went up to 300B lately.

It's been 500 bht in Korat for years here, I haven't had one for 2 years, but there was talk they were to stop issueing them in Korat immo because tight-asses wouldn't pay it, and they won't issue them for free.

Like the op, good luck to anyone who complains noisily, pity them maybe the next time they go for visa extensions...

  6. Face it: It's a war, you started it, and now you have the enemy in your streets.

    I started it? How?

There wouldn't be one Muslim in Europe if I had my way, even the nice ones don't want to intergrate, just build the biggest mosque they can, and claim the area as Sharia law...if we built a church in a muslim country, it gets burnt to the ground these days....is that ok?

  7. Now what? They will make some peace marches, light some candles, tweet some pathetic peace hashtags and after 6 monthsboomanother one!

I think the next things is that europeans are going to rise up on their own to take back their streets.just watch.

Its all building up to an us vs them confrontation.

ISIS attack us with bombs, rockets and guns, we fight back with hashtags, Facebook profiles, candles and pretty colours on buildings. Are we hoping they die laughing? I despair for the 'Generation Snowflake' that we've become.

Totally in agreement with you there....no way is the mamby pamby, kiss and be friends attempt at sucking up to them is working.

Am I the only one who saw crowds of Muslims on the streets of London, dancing and cheering the deaths of 129 innocent people??? They were sooo happy, and it wasn't for the deaths of the terrorists, that's for sure....

I wonder what would be said if we were to celebrate those Muslims who died in the Mecca stampede?

    Absolutely disgusting behaviour....

  8. Did anyone else notice at the Stade de France, when the bombs went off, that the security made sure President Hollande was 'slid' away to safety...leaving ordinary people to be murdered, and to look out for themselves??????
These are the people who don't want this scum allowed into the country, and Hollande and his cronies allow them here to cause chaos and murder, but when it gets too close, they are the first ones to run and hide!!! Same for Cameron, and other leaders. They are the ones who can stop this, but they let the innocent people die first....they are so weak....grrrr!
And these are the people that expect soldiers to sacrifice their lives for them...

Soldiers chose their job TOO put their lives on the line...rolleyes.gif

Not sure if they would if someone told them what it's really for.

You are obviously not a soldier..a hair dresser maybe, but thats great, cos YOU chose YOUR profession, same as soldiers...thumbsup.gif

    .................................
I didn't know soldiers were there? As far as I know, it was innocent people who were killed, out having a good time, not a threat to anyone, not people who have signed up.

Most countries have the same procedure. Guys are paid to do that job of take care.
The Stade de France attack was just symbolic...no way to get inside, the crowd was never in any real danger ( although probably very scared). Stopping soft target attacks such as those at Charlie Hebdo and yesterday's are extremely difficult. They could be carried out in any city or town in the world...and probably will become more frequent ( if not in the coordinated manner in Paris then lone wolf, guerrilla style).
Does this mean more people died of panic than by the actual attacks?

The only person killed at the Stade de France, other than the suicide bombers, was a bystander who was outside the stadium. The big venues are protected and pretty secure, leaving the soft targets . This has been the pattern for a while....a small museum in Belgium, a school in regional France, supermarket in Paris, a cafe in Sydney, a soldier in a London street, etc etc

    ..................................
Oh, so only one died there? That's ok then....1 too many as far as I am concerned.

Oh, that's ok then.....I feel safe now you pointed that out.

If 10 of them blasted their way in with Kalashnikov's with NO fear of dieing...they could get in if they wanted too. What I'm saying is that it's always the people that cause the troubles (ie, Hollande and other world leaders) that are made to feel the safest. Then innocents die for doing nothing wrong except being in the wrong place.

  12. Pattaya would be my 5th or 6th choice....

Yet here you are trolling the Pattaya forum for your jollies, but dont worry you are not alone, seems there are many like you that have no clue about Pattaya but feel the need to aimlessly comment on the PATTAYA forum.
i still have a place there, so i have every right to comment, so wind your neck in. I just choose not to live there full time, only for short breaks, ok?...have you banned me from this forum? No, i thought not.... next

  14. My GF's parents just left and in all of the years I have never heard her father say 'thank you' for anything.

I have given him a super-bright LED head torch for use on his farm, the odd bottle of Jack Daniels from duty free and all manner of free food while they were here.

Plus, if at any time he feels hungry or thirsty, he thinks it's fine to go through the fridge and have whatever he wants. The nice bit of cake I got for supper, the last bottle of cold beer - anything.

And he will happily sit watching satellite TV all day while I am busy clearing out drains or cutting grass.

Oh - and the motorbike puts on a lot of km while he is here. He has never asked if it is OK to use it.

Is this normal behaviour ?. He is 100% red-shirt and doesn't help my opinion of them one little bit.

Her mum is fine though. Polite and always in the garden helping out.

Maybe it comes from your attitude ...

As for you the family of my wife likes to watch the screen ghent and drink fresh beer And since they are poor they can not turn around politeness.

But they largely give me the equivalent by performing free small maintenance to our house. Sometimes I have to insist that the stepfather loose tools and enjoys a moment of friendship. This example to show that your truth is not general.

That said I knew also profiteers. But they have benefited only once. Then I told my wife to translate a universal principle: "give and take."

But what if you do all the 'giving', but there is nothing there to 'take'? My wife's family are great compared to some I read on here, when her Dad comes to stay, he grafts from morning 'til night with a smile all the time. I am very happy with my in laws....they don't even need to show gratitude to me, because they know, and I know that their daughter is happy, and that's what matters....
