  1. I'm certain we all know, those of us upcountry, that many, if not most motorcycles are registered only when purchased and never after.  So this tax only looks good on paper - in reality nothing will change.  Motorcyclists will continue driving, unregistered and unlicensed!

And totally untouched by the local bobbies!

  2. I went to Pattaya Immigration last week with my bankbook and letter from the bank to do my extension of stay.  The bank letter only went back 6 months they said to go back longer would require a week to process and had to come from the head office of Bangkok bank.  My extension was based on over 65,000 Baht deposit every month which my bankbook verified.  Immigration said the only way they would accept my extension is with a bank letter showing 12 months of deposits.  Lucky for me I applied early and have the time to get the letter from the bank before my extension expires.  Next Thursday I will have the new bank letter and visit Immigration again.

How will this work for those Immigration Offices that require the bank letter to be dated the same day as the visit to Immigration? Guess we will have to wait and see.

  3. Jomtien Immigration recently announced that the evidence that they would require of this is that the monthly transfers were made on a similar date. They indicated that a 9 day spread in the dates would be acceptable.

As my UK State pension (part of my total pension income) is paid every 4 weeks and not monthly, 13 times per year, the date varies each month! However my other pension usually arrives within a spread of a few days each month. The total is always over 65000 baht, so hopefully, Khon Kaen immigration will ignore the 9 day spread rule, which incidentally is NOT in the regulations for income method!

Thailand’s highest electricity usage this year has so far been recorded on 24 April 2019 at 30,120 megawatt due to hot climate. It is expected the number may increase by 500 megawatt, reaching up to 30,500 megawatt this summer.

Looks like the EC have been involved in this calculation! (30,120 + 500 = 30,500!) Only 120 short, perhaps there was a power cut during counting :-)

  5. Fantastic news. This has made my day! Over 36 years as a Probation Officer in UK I was involved with offenders of all ages. Some of the main causes of criminal behaviour stem from lack of education leading to inability to obtain employment leading to poverty and lack of self worth leading to further offending! I was involved in many employment and education projects and this project, designed and run by young offenders themselves deserves to succeed. I wish them every success in the future and would welcome the opportunity to meet with them.

  6. Surely drinking alcohol is far more of a health worry than non alcoholic beer! They should be encouraging people to drink non alcoholic beer to avoid increasing rate of alcoholism and drink driving, not increasing the cost. Absolutely crazy thinking by an illegitimate government obsessed with making money on anything and everything to pay for military killing machines!

  7. "Air pollution surpasses measurable levels"

Are they bragging? The usual meaning of the word "surpasses" in UK English is "to do better than" or "excel"! Is Thailand now giving itself a pat on the back for climbing up the world pollution level index? Only one solution, enforcement of laws already in place. Enforcement, enforcement, enforcement! If satellite images show the hot spots, then the landowners should be brought to book for all deliberate acts of setting fields ablaze. It works in UK were stubble burning is now completely eradicated.

  8. I am in Thailand permanently on a non-immigrant "O" visa based on retirement plus extensions for the past 6 years. Up until now I have used the British Embassy income letter route but this year will be using Bangkok Bank statements, showing international transfers of income, and bank letter. Do Immigration keep this paperwork, and if so what safeguards do we have that they will be stored securely and not with something that contains my signature? Do we have any rights under the latest Thai Data Protection Act? I have recently had the experience when copies of 2 ID cards where printed on the back of paperwork given out by Immigration!
