  1. Govt committed to eradicating human trafficking: DPM

The deputy premier said the government will not allow Thailand to be plagued by human trafficking cases which could probably compromise the principles of human rights and cause negative effects to the national economy and reputation.

"probably" !!!! There is nothing probable about it. Modern slavery and human trafficking is an abomination and totally ignores any human rights! It's about time that all those involved in this despicable trade are brought to book! This includes the top brass in the armed forces and police who knew it was going on but turned a blind eye!

  2. Thank you so much. I have to come to Bangkok from Khon Kaen next week for British Embassy affirmation. I will need translated documents stamped by Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Are you saying that if I pay extra for Express service I will get them the same day? This would make things so much easier.

  3. Interesting use of the word "tout". According to most dictionaries, this is quite derogatory, both as a verb or a noun. e.g. " attempt to sell ( something) , typically by pestering people in an aggressive or bold manner" or "to solicit patronage" " to solicit, peddle, or persuade importunately". Take your pick.

  4. IMHO you're best bet would be to go and ask the DLT/LTO yourself as different offices in different provinces have other requirements. But that said 2 things

1- If you have a Yellow House Book with your new address that certainly would be helpful as that is accepted at our local DLT/LTO.
2- When we moved province I didn't change the address on my license, the address only got changed when I went to renew the license and that was 2 years after the move to the new province

    Thank you :-)

  5. To thoroughly check a vehicle for road worthiness, would, in my opinion, require a pit inspection, at an authorised testing station, and a road test, taking a total time of about 3 - 4 hours per vehicle! Clearly all that the "inspectors" did was look at the outside of the bus, and ask the driver, "Is everything ok?" It's the same at police road checks, they never give the vehicle even a cursory check for bald tyres, corroded bodywork etc., only tax disk and licence!

  6. Friend of mine renewing his retirement visa this week at Khon Kaen IO. He previously was using letters from the UK embassy which are no longer obtainable. He explained to them he will only have 6 months 65k deposits from abroad wen he renews his extension expecting leniency per Immigration press releases. No go. No 12 months history no extension

Perhaps when he goes back to do his extension, he should take a copy of the "leniency" letter from BJ with him. He should be able to find something by doing a search on Thaivisa. No-one can be expected to produce 12 months of statements (unless you have always transferred your money to a Thai bank account monthly as I have done for last 6 years) because the order only applied after December 2018!

  7. Tragic event indeed! Condolences to all the families of the 49 killed by this White supremacist who must have been completely mad to commit such a barbaric act on innocent people attending Friday prayers at 2 different mosques. I hope that all those injured will survive. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this terrible act and I call on all of us to show compassion towards our Moslem brothers and sisters whatever our own beliefs may be. This is not the time or place for cheap digs at the media or Thailand!

  8.
For those earning under 25,000 baht a month, the home loans carry an interest rate of 3% for the first five years. Those earning more would have the same interest rate for only three years. The changes were prompted by the higher than anticipated number registering in the lower-income bracket.

Bearing in mind that the average monthly wage in the North and North East is somewhere in the region of ฿9,000 to ฿10,000, why should the Government be surprised by the numbers registering in the lower income bracket! Shows how out of touch with the majority of ordinary folk the government are. There is life outside Bangkok you know :-)

  9. How would you instruct a UK bank to ensure that, or any other, coding would appear on a Thai bank statement?
I use online banking and transfers from my UK account show up on my Thai statements as "Transfer via EXIM" - EXIM being the Export Import Bank of Thailand.

I too, have UK State Pension and separate work pension. Both of these are paid into my Lloyds Bank account in UK at different times of the month. I make 2 transfers a month each costing £9.50 plus ฿200 added by Bangkok Bank and they show up as International transfers. I have been doing this for 6 years now and it suits me just fine, although, I could transfer the total of over 65,000 in one go. I understand that DWP (UK Pensions service) uses an American bank, (Citi Bank? ) to pay UK pension direct to Thai account, which could account for lack of international code, and delays in payment!

  10. this is all retrospect this 40/65000 came about only recently, i bet no one has 12 months back transactions to show, because we would NOT have been unaware of it (unless you have physic powers) as it was not even thought about 12 months ago. i personally send top up money about every 3 months, can be here in 2 days.but now that option is no more.

I'm not psychic, but I have Bangkok Bank statements for the last 6 years showing over ฿65,000 going into my account each month, all shown as International transfers (FTT). The 40/65,000 rule has been in existence for many years, but it is only since Dec 12th last year that the UK Embassy has stopped issuing confirmation letters. Those of us who actually live here in Thailand, 365 days a year every year need the money in a Thai bank account in order to pay our bills!
