  1. I renewed my passport in Bangkok, took 7 days !!

was very easy and service was excellant.

as an addition, I would definately get a letter from Embassy to take to Immigration, ( when I got new passport in Bangkok, they automatically give you the letter. ) since you cannot be sure they will or wont want it, and getting to Immigration to find they want one and you dont have it will be a pain !!

  2. I have not read every post here, so may be repeating some points.

there is a suggestion that travelling around may be awkward as far as 90 day reporting. But, you do not need to do 90 day report if you leave the country.

so, if you have a 12 month extension of stay for retirement, and get a multi entry re-entry permit, you can come and go as you please, if each visit is less than 90 days, then you never need to do a 90 day report, since the 90 days only starts from the date of each entry.

your problem, of course, is getting the extension of stay in the first place and renewing it each year, since there is a requirement to have a proof of address, ie a permanent address. ( plus, of course, the having the correct funds in bank etc etc )

  3. I’m sure people have covered it, but since I did this in March, I will just post my route.

first I got Single entry Tourist visa from U.K. , this does not require too much info - money in bank, proof of job.

To get retirement extension, you MUST first change this Tourist visa to Non Immigrant O visa at immigration . ( you could, as stated before, change a 30 day entry stamp as well.) This will require proof of aggress, certificate of residence .

the Non Immigrant O is valid for 90 days. After 60 days you can apply for an extension to 12 months for retirement.

Fir this, you need proof of address in Thailand ( even if you own condo you need a letter from condo office confirming you actually live there ) you need proof of 800,000  baht in a bank account for three months( might be only two for initial extension ) or  proof of annual income up to that amount or a mixture of the two. Take two copies of EVERY piece of proof with you, along with two copies of passport, arrival card and two photos of yourself.

Having obtained my Non Immigrant O visa, getting retirement extension was easy, took paperwork to immigration, all checked etc , pay 1900bht, return next day to pick up stamped passport.

→→→ my last 90 day stamp will allow me to stay here till June 25... ←←←

Your 90 day stamp is → NOT← a extension of stay, it is when you report your address the next time.

If your visa / extension of stay expired April 8, you are on OVERSTAY

NOW.  Look on your 90 day receipt for the words "THIS IS NOT AN EXTENSION OF STAY PLEASE..." all capital letters the 1st line of the rectular stamp.

90 day reprting and 90 extension of stay are two entirley differant things.

He has 90 dat Extention, therefore is not on Overstay.

he can get re-entry permit valid until extension finishes -june 25

  5. Immigration have only recently started enforcing TM30 registration. I know of people who have been fined for not reporting, when they went to get Certificate of Residence.

I own my own place and never reported, however, after returning in March I went ti Immigration to report and find out what its about etc.

According to the officer, if you own and stay at your own place, you must personally report.via TM 30. If you then go and travel around Thailand and stay in hotels etc, you will not need to continually report, as these places will report for you.

If you leave Thailand for any reason - visa run, go home , hoilday etc, you must report again with TM30 on your return.

If you have foreign guests come and stay at your own property, YOU must report that they are staying with you as well.

  6. In went to IO in Pattaya to register myself, i inquired about TM30, she basically said that as long as I registered with her, as staying in my own condo, unless I left the country, I would not need to do it again, even if I travelled around ( obviously if I stayed in a hotel whilst travelling, they would automatically register me . ) I think each IO interprets the rules differently.

  7. OP asks about COR for both Driving License and Car purchase.

At Chonburi, there are different requirements etc.

Driving License - as of 1/03/2018, you will need the new medical certificate etc, also a certificate of residence from Immigration, ( the DLT will not accept Yellow Book and ID for driving license. )

Car Purchase - you can  register a car/ change ownership etc at one of the car tax stations around the region, you will need a COR, but you CAN use a Yellow Book for this in lieu of COR.

  8. ThE Toursist Police dont have guns as they dont have powers of arrest etc and do not get involved in criminal activities etc. They are an arm of the RTP set up to help and advise tourists etc.

there are western Thai Police Volunteers who are also there to advise and assist tourists etc. They have no power of arrest, and should have an official Thai Tourist Police officer with them. They also have no power of arrest.

Only bonafide RTP canarrest you etc, and they are also tho only ones with guns.

  9. To try and alleviate the confusion, the visa you have in your passport has a start and end date. This is 90 days this means your vis is valid for this 90 days, you must arrive in Thailand some time between these dates, you can wait to arrive up until midnight on the last date listed.

once you arrive in Thailand you will then be allowed to stay in Thailand for 90 days from your arrival ( you can extend this at an immigration office if you wish )

  10. I got a new passport in Bangkok last year. This took about 8 days in total. There is an office in Soi 15 that deals with them. But I have a property in Thailand , so can prove an address there,  as it  is a necessary requirement of a new passport. I am therefore not sure how you would get on, even though you could prove your address in the UK.

Personnally, i dont see why the proof of address is necessary, if you already have a passport etc then you have obviously passed the security checks etc and are a UK citizen, so it does not matter where you actually live.

you also need a photocopy of every single page in your existing passport. They then send them away and advise you on their return etc. Very quick and efficient. But as stated. You will need to check on the proof of address situation.

  11. I have an extension of stay based on retirement, gained from Chonburi Immigration in may this year, this is an extension of an O visa etc.

you MUSt get a re-entry permit if leaving the country, either multi or single, otherwise the extension is invalidated as soon as you leave the country from any route --  air or land.

you do not need to do reports if you leave before 90 days is up on any trip . You can come and go as you please for the full year with a multi-entry re-entry permt, and therefore if only staying for 30 days each time etc you never need to do 90 day report.

  12. Yellow books should be free, if you are charged then that is wrong.

as for usage, they may not be needed that often, but you no longer need Residence Certificates to do anything again, you can get Thai prices for entry to parks, museums etc.

This may not seem a lot, but I still think its worth it.

also, I was mot aware, as inferred in a previous message, that you can get a pink ID WITHOUT first getting a Yellow Book.

the Pink ID is also usefull if travelling around Thailand etc for hotels and car/ Bike hire.

If he wants an extension based on retirement it's still baht 800,000 or baht 65,000 monthly income or a combination of the two. He didn't say he wanted an extension based on marriage.

Yes, I know what he said, I was merely adding advice etc . He may actually not know he can just get a marriage extension .

  14. I just did mine in Chonburi.

Since you are married to a Thai, you only need proof of 400,000bht in bank ( or equivalent income) not 800,000bht.

Apart from letter from bank ( in my case) I had to show bank book showing transactions etc to prove I was using the account etc.

also, need proof of address in Thailand . I have my own condo, so have Chanoot and Yellow book, but still had to have a letter from the condo office to say that I actually live in my own condo !!!

All Immigration offices have there own requirements I think, so check with them.

  15. Without reading all previous replies, I can advise that you can definitely get a Yellow house book with your name it etc- I have just done exactly that this week in Sattahip. This is the faring version of a  Blue book, since you CANNOT have your name in the Blue book.

It also comes with an ID card showing a photo of you along with your address etc.

To get one, you need proof of ownership, ( Channoot etc ) copies of blue book & passport. A translation of your passport. A residence certificate from immigration. You will need a  visa rather than 30 day exception stamp.

You have to go to the area Ampor office, and take a Thai witness with you. You will also need to contact the local Juristic person to confirm you live in the district. He will need to sign the paperwork at the Amphor.

  16. I always question the mentality of people like the OP.

i assume he is western/farang etc and therefore is highly unlikley to do this in his own country, therefore why does he even consider that it is acceptable in Thailand ?

i regret having to walk the same streets as these idiots !!!

  17. My experience, at Sattahip land office,  yes you transfer to your bank account in Thailand from abroards, this is the accepted process. However, there is a rider to this.

when you go to the land office, they require the letter from the bank stating that the funds were transferred etc, but the amount needs to be as close to the price as possible, since they make a charge for the purchase which takes into consideration the total amount transferred.

I had transferred around 25%  more than the cost of the condo to cover new furniture and alteration costs etc. The bank letter indicated the entire amount, and therefore the land office charged me a tax based on the entire amount.

i dont know if this is standard throughout Thailand, but as we all know, different officesvuse different interprtation of Thail regulations.

  18. I got mine

I heard that all the consulates are no longer giving out METVs and it has to be the London embassy? I really hope this is not the case as I got my last one from Liverpool and it was a breeze - I would not mind going to Hull for a METV, go and see my old Uni town.

How long ago did you get it?

I got mine two weeks ago. As far as I am aware, consulates are allowed to give METV, but not ' O ' visas.
