Don't think about tones at first. Build vocabulary and learn reading. Go out and speak as much as possible immediately and when you hear words you already know you will start to pick up on the tones naturally. Good luck and enjoy!

It was all weather related and the second, third and fourth quarters will come in around +3.5%. Hoping that finishing the taper and the strong second half kick off some inflationary pressures so we can get some bond yields!

The canal takes one-two days off of all shipping going from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific. That's hundreds of millions of dollars of savings in the container shipping business every year.
Creating one of the worlds largest container ports in a Thailand will create 10,000s of jobs and several hundred million USD in private investment from container port operators.

The fact is that all throughout Asia dark skin is associated with outdoor labor working (poor people). Light skin is associated with non labor people ( wealthy and upper class). That's just the facts, right or wrong it is cultural.

Yermanee is absolutely right! I tip anytime I receive friendly, polite and better than expected service. That is my business alone. (Btw, I give the flight attendants on every flight I take a box of Chocolates too. You always get a lot more in return that what you give)!

I have always felt this should have been done decades ago. It looked like they were going to pull the trigger on it in the nineties but it lost momentum ( probably because of the current crisis then). It is not even that difficult a project to do and will bring incredible wealth to Thailand and southern Myanmar.
It would create one the worlds biggest shipping zones pulling nearly all the business out of the Straits of Malacca. Of course Singaporean business doesn't like this at all.

Lots of charity organizations you can volunteer with and intellectual organizations, for example 'Siam Society.' Many types of clubs to join where you can also create friends with expats and English speaking Thais. Nothing to do with bars and drinking if you don't like that type of thing. Bangkok also is the perfect home base for interesting trips around the region. Next week I'm going on a photography trip to Bagan in Myanmar. Great place to be retired, stay busy and have a fulfilling and interesting life. Good luck!

Bangkok's best hotels have low occupancy so they are offering great deals and the TV is on at them! Give yourself a break and spend the weekend at a nice hotel! A little room service and all the sports! That's what I'm doing! Monaco F1 this weekend!

Although no one performer was the best I've seen, for overall atmosphere, Rock in Rio week last year was awesome. The night I went we saw Match box 20, Nickleback and Bonjovi. Bruce Springsteen and Metallica where staying at our hotel. I think in the seven days 600,000 attended the events! Rio knows how to party!
