  1. The only times I have seen true 16:9 anamorphic stuff on UBC are programs bought from the UK. Like that Robot Wars or music videos. As the broadcasters there change the aspect ratio as they broadcast it (14:9 Letterbox), the original source is 16:9 anamorphic.

    :o

  2. ^ Thats the Ayam brand from Bhutan I believe.

I agree they aren't bad at all. They've improved greatly over the last few years.

Yes, that's the one. Not bad for 20-30 odd Baht a can.

That makes 3 of us..... :o

Agreed, the small can is perfect for 2 slices of toast!

  3. Just checked out the c320 on gadgetrend's website, 28k in Thailand with Thai software. 31k in Europe (650€ at current exchange rate) without Thai software, I think I'll just wait and get one in Thailand :o

    Thanks for the info!

If you can use the US maps at some stage, it would be worth considering the 32k US/Thai version of it.

  4. I am glad to have found another Garmin user in BKK. How long have you had yours?

What limitations have you found? Every so often mine will not let me turn right when turning right is OK (e.g, when exiting the motorway at Silom).

Overall I am really happy with it. The Conrad hotel has them in their limos and The Oriental is going to try them out.

I forgot about checking back to this post, oops! I have the C320, I only bought the Thai version, so I don't have any other maps. I've had it since January. I have only found 2 mistakes with it sofar, the problem with the auto-routing on the 3rd expressway (the Ram Intra one) and when I asked to find the nearest petrol station it guided me to one that has since gone out of business. Also on the way to the beach near Jomtien I follow my own directions as I think it's faster than the auto-routing directions.

  5. ...

I have been convinced that manual gear will not be that bad for me! Thairish; how much did the conversion to automatic cost you? (or your better half - he,he - besides the wheel spinning loss!).

    Nice pics!

    Cheers!

Firefan the conversion knocked me back about 50k, but as mentioned the feeling changes drastically, plus the shift from 1st to 2nd with the auto is quite a jolt, I'm sure the new MX-5s (NB & NC models) have much better auto gear boxes!

Oh Tuky, here's a link to give you an idea of price!

  6. Looking at the Maxda MX5 (used models. Also know as Miata in USA) they all have manual gears and I wonder how quickly my foot would cramp up when using the car in BKK?

(Ps. I am used to driving manual gear in Europe)

    Cheers!

    Firefan,

It's a great little car, but never let your other half switch it to auto!

I have had mine for about 4 years now (the bright coloured one!). Make sure you get a hard top with it, some people sell them with it missing! It's now my second car, but it used to be my run around. The automatic conversion has ruined my wheel spinning capabilities, but it's wife friendly, doh! I'm starting to think I should save up for a bigger 4 seater cabrio though!

  7. Before getting the Fortuner, I was checking out the small European cars, 3 series and C class, both couldn't comfortably fit farang sized people. I would in the price range look at Camry or Accord for a sedan type luxury car.

I disagree - C class at least is fine, unless you're in the back... (I'm 6'2", and no issues with it at all as I'm always in the front...).

Indeed you are right Mike, sorry, actually meant to write 4 farang sized people! I'm very happy with the Fortuner.

  8. Steering wheel buttons work fine, a bit of adjustment needed though. Nothing to do with warranty this. No GPS touch screen available as far as I know.

By the way the TV has 2 infra red game controllers and you can play all sorts of silly games from the 80s, good for kids though.

4x4 shop is closed Sundays unfortunately.

    Hi terdsak,

Thanks for the info on the fiber shop, I got a few bits & bobs from there: stainless steel grills for the front, a rear scuff plate for the boot and the extra chrome looking plastic rings for the dials.

Then from a Toyota dealer I got: scuff plates, chromed muffler and the cargo net I was looking for.

I have a quote for an AV system from a place out my way (Ram Intra) for:

A 2 Din Kenwood DDX7037 touchscreen head unit, the very same fold down 12" necvox screen as you have, GPS, reverse camera and some new speakers for around 140K

The thing I like about the Kenwood head unit is it is dual zoned, so you can watch 2 different sources on the 2 different monitors, in otherwords GPS on the head unit and DVD movie on the drop down!

I'm still researching exactly what brand of GPS it is, and if it's any better than my portable one (streetpilot c320). Also I'm waiting for the kenwood enabled bluetooth hand free kit to plug into it.

Hope this helps someone out there.. :o

  9. For the past several weeks they have been building a ferris wheel just next to the night market off Wireless Road. Does anyone know when it will open? From the top there will be a fantastic view.

You could always look down at the ferris wheel from Vertigo, plus there's a bar and you can leave when you please.. :o

  10. Chonabot...

    Don't know who 's in your avatar...but you're a lucky guy!!! :o

Chonabot's avatar is Jessica Alba.. :D

As for luxury I agree with Chanchao and Terdsak. I had an E39 BMW 5 with pretty much an M5 body kit, loved it till maintenance started getting stupid, I fecked the engine and the front right suspension, breaking one of the alloys in the process. So I decided it's SUV time and got a new Fortuner.

Before getting the Fortuner, I was checking out the small European cars, 3 series and C class, both couldn't comfortably fit farang sized people. I would in the price range look at Camry or Accord for a sedan type luxury car.

  11. No, I am not a MB dealer...though I probably sound like one...I just love the cars.

Since this weekend is a long one I'll have an opportunity to fully test the Garmin without all the traffic mess. I am also not a Garmin dealer so I'll post the faults as well as the praise. (Frankly, just having the "go Home" feature is nice when I drift into unknown regions of BKK).

I'll probably take my Thai wife along as a back-up.

    Time for dinner.

Your dinner pics have just pushed me over the edge, time for me to get some too!

You also must have your camera attached to you 24-7! I recommend if you are not yet on flickr you should probably join!

    Enjoy..
