  1. Hi nice mercedes have not seen many of them in Thailand, My car is still a work in progress, should look like this on completion almost there now after 2 years of work,post-28774-1146193816_thumb.jpg

    I think I saw one parked at Power Station before, so some might be able to help you there. Also I noticed a garage on the way to pattaya that seemed to restore old muscle cars, I saw that just after the turn off for Rayong coming from Bkk, the same turn off as the BIRA race course.

    Hope you find what you need, but 6.6ltr, wow that probably sucks down more fuel than the Ford GT! Have fun!

  2. You can click on an option that will only take you on main roads. In fact, it asks you what type of vehicle you are driving. The suggested route will probably be different if you are driving a Porsche rather than an 18 wheeler. Also, you can select out of toll roads. The Garmin allows you to really customize your route. You can also choose "shortest" or "fastess"...fastess is better as shortest usually takes you on small roads.

    Of course the very best navigating system in Bangkok is to have a Thai friend who sits in the passenger seat (assuming she knows the city).

    I have the smaller Streetpilot c320, I recently got to give it a decent enough run out of Bangkok, went Kachanaburi, with the family 2 separate cars. I had the Garmin, my brother in law used his knowledge, and I managed to get there 30 mins before him.

    But I have had auto-routing problems around the At Narong - Ram Intra Expressway, it freezes everytime I use the auto-route feature around there. Just viewing the map as you drive theres no problems! So it would be interesting to know if anyone has problems with the auto-routing freezing too.

    Are you a Benz dealer corkscrew? Or just really into your MBs?

  3. Anyone know if there is an Aston Martin dealership in Thailand? I just love the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. It will probably be out of my financial reach due to the stupendously high import taxes Thailand has, but would still be interested in investigating further.

    Tompa,

    I think SEC Group would import it, but I will be amazingly expensive, I seem to remember at last years motor show there was a DB9 on their stand. Good luck, plus let us all know if you get a quote!

  4. I'm trying to locate a few bits and bobs for my 'tuner. Mainly door scuff plates, a boot/rear bumper scuff plate and a cargo net. Also any other nice additions I happen across. I'm sure there are plenty of 'tuner owners around here, hope some of you can point me in the right direction...

    Thanks in advance..

  5. I have a camera that uses Hi 8 film, I also have many old ordinery 8mm film's from a camera I had year's ago, I can't tell any diferance between them and neither can my friend's, also if I record on Hi 8 or old ordinery 8mm I can't see any diferance, only the price of Hi 8 is three time's more expencive than the ordinery 8mm, what's going on ? seem's like a con to buy dearer film !

    From your post I'm assuming you mean video not film. There are 3 8mm video formats, there's video8, Hi8 and Digital8. The difference between video8 and Hi8 is a better video signal with the latter. Which to the untrained eye is practically nothing. Hi8 separates the video signal in 3 components, giving sharper edges (less colour bleeding). While video8 keeps the video signal as one composite signal, leading to blurrier edges (and some colour bleeding). Tape wise the main difference is coating on the tape, but IMO stick with the cheaper tapes if the quality difference to you is unnoticable.

    Hope I didn't bore you to death with semi technical detail..

  6. I know there is next to no coverage of college hoops in Thailand. But what about tournament time? Is there any coverage – even for the final game?

    I saw a sign for the March Madness games in front of Woodstock bar in Thonglor 13, if you happen to live in Bangkok

  7. I need a new game. On the look out for FPS games. Anyone played any new ones recently? I have played Half Life 2, FEAR etc. But was wondering what is good as a new game. Currently playing HALO and always on the look out for some thing better. Any ideas?

    I have been playing the world war II game Call of Duty 2 and it's really amazing. If you fancy a bit of realism in your FPS it's a brilliant one!

  8. Ok fellas, realise I may be living in the stoneage, but does anyone know where I can buy a new VHS recorder in Thailand as mine is on its last legs. I have tried all the big stores but to no avail. I have a home theatre system but require a recoreder to copy from the TV. I also have an European VHS but the audio is not compatable with the local system, could I get it converted? Also , are there other ways to achieve coping. Apologies for being solid but any advice would be appreciated while smart comments would not!

    They are quite difficult to find now, and only seem to sell the DVD/VHS combi units. The last place I remember seeing them was at Tesco, Panasonic was the brand, but that was a couple of months back. Hope you track one down..

  9. If you are from Texas and accustomed to eating US beef, you're going to be appalled at all of the placed suggested above (none of which serve US beef).

    All of them except Neils serve Thai beef because it is cheap, but it is also absolutely awful: stringy, tough, and flavorless. Neils serves deep frozen Australian beef which has been frozen way, way too long. It's not much better. The only beef in Thailand that is even vaguely like what you are used to is the Argentinian beef served by the New York Steak House at the Marriott, and their prices are absolutely stunning. Real New York prices. Good luck.

    Just looked at Neil's Tavern website and saw this...

    *New York Steak(USDA PRIME) 3.75.-/gram

    *Rib Eye (USDA PRIME) 3.85 / Gram

    * PRIME RIB(USDA PRIME) 2.95.-/gram

    * T-BONE(USDA PRIME) 3.75.-/gram

    So besides their "deep frozen Australian beef which has been frozen way, way too long", they have US beef!

    Just thought I'd let you know :o

  10. If someone find a shop, please let me know. (Bangkok area)

    I tend to use Kodak shops and make sure to tell them 'mai bap see' (don't change the colours), at a push I will go to a Fuji shop, but that's just my colour preference between brands. But I'm not positive if there is as much difference between the 2 brands when getting digital prints rather than from 35mm film.

    FYI The shop I used most was the Kodak one on Soi Aree, Phaholyothin Soi 7.

  11. Does it have detailed maps of BKK/Thailand - website doesn't seem to mention them/have an english option?

    The maps are pretty detailed, alot of Points Of Interest, I'm still messing around with it so I haven't quite learnt all I can do with it yet, Yes they have English and Thai versions, the Thai one is cheaper as you don't get the North US maps or some extra bits and bobs in the box.

  12. Smart casual actually means shirt, cloth pants and regular shoes...it's basically just not sporty. I don't know about you guys, but dress code or not, I would feel awkward walking into a fancy restaurant in sport shoes :D

    Cheers Florin for setting me straight! As for wearing my trainers into fancy restaurants, I do it all the time! I own 1 pair of leather shoes, that only get dusted off for weddings and funerals... But that's the way I am.. :o

  13. Maybe...But as soon as I saw the words "dress code"...

    Who do they think they are ?

    :D

    Smart casual please, by respect for our regular customer the following clothing are not allowed;

    - no - jeans - t-shirts - tank top - tongs - sandals - sport shoes

    There are plenty of restaurant where they don't care but we do.

    I see what you mean Razzell, smart casual to me has always been a nice shirt with jeans and nice trainers! I guess they have a different view there! They should just say black tie!

    :o

  14. I don't know about 'Best Ambience' but I like these places:

    Mes Amis (French) on Thonlglor Soi 5 - Good for the special romantic occasions.

    The Face (Thai, Indian, Bar area and Spa) on Sukhumvit 38 - Great decor, I tend to just hit the bar here.

    Maha Naga (Thai/Western Fusion) on Sukhumvit 29 - Lovely courtyard dining area.

    L'Opera Restaurant or Winetheque (Italian) on Sukhumvit 39 - Great food, the winetheque part is nice.

    Cafe Buongiorno (Italian) on Sukhumvit 33 - Nice garden dining

    Crepes & Co. (Mediterranean, Crepes, Brunch & Cafe) on Sukhumvit 12 - Great place to have brunch and read a book!

    Hope something grabs your fancy.. :o

  15. Another thing quite a few print shops seem to do with digital photos, is colour correct them to what they think is correct, causing dark pictures to be lightened up, which adds alot of digital noise/grain. So when I stick mine in for prints I make sure to let them know, no colour correction! :o
