  1. I have not read every post in this topic so forgive me if the following has been discussed.

In my experience any branch can provide a letter that proves you have an account with Kasikonrn.

BUT ... only the main branch can provide a letter that itemises 12 international imports (65,000 baht income minimum)

I know this for certain as 2 years ago I attempted to get a letter from my normal branch in the correct format.

They said no .. go to main branch. That is the one in Central Road.

Immigration were not very helpful the first year, not explaining what exactly was wrong but told me eventually. I guess they want me to use an agent.

Last year I thought I was being clever and just get the letter from the Jomtien branch. They gave me a print out of incomings and outgoings from my account. I was not convinced but it might have changed I thought ... as they near Jomtien Immigration and I thought must do many such letters .. I took it to try renew my retirement extension.

(Jomtien branch easier to get to than the main branch).

But no. They  (Immigration) just want the 12 international imports listed and rejected this format for second year. Durrrrrr I should have freaking learnt.

I went to the main branch again and got the info in the correct format and they confirmed they were the only branch that can list International incomings (and not all the account ins and outs).

Confusion reigns a bit even after you get to the main branch. As not all employees know anything about it.

You need the desk far right as you enter.

Well that was the desk last 2 years but things change, I guess.

I have thought it very strange there was no other chat room chatter about this .. till now I have not seen any .. if indeed the problem is as in my case.

  2. Excuse my muppetry ... but because of the upheaval of moving condo, and problems here and in the UK that have occupied my mind ..... I have totally lost track about how now to get a covid booster(s) in Pattaya. (Free or paid).

I assume Royal Garden programme in this thread is finished.

The search engine on here not getting me far, sorry if info is in a thread I cant find.

(I had 2 Pfizer last year).

  3. I was confused reading that the new UK passports are blue.

Because ... I only received a new one a few days ago ... and considered it to be black.

I had to get it and look again. I am looking at it now.  Its black.

A very very trivial thing .. but I was a tiny bit curious.  I dont care .. but why is mine different ? Was my thought.

So I asked Mr Google and read that many consider that there new colour to be black.  Not just me.

So you may hear from confused old codgers like me saying they are black.

I thought they only added up to 9 months, but in any case, they don't do that any more, you'll get 10 years from the date of issue.

    Yeah your right.

Apologies for being a stoooopid irriot.

In 2012 when I renewed I saw it was more than 10 years and assumed it was credit from the unexpired passport validity.

I have just given it proper thought / calculation for the first time in 10 years. ???? Durrrrrrr.

I did not think overly much ...  sorry.

  5. My passport has about a year before it expires and I am going to renew it soon. Probably after my next 90 day report in April.

My cunning plan .. is to use a passport renewal agent in Pattaya to deliver it to Bangkok and collect it.

    Any recommendations which one ?

As I read that it is taking about 3 months .... I am wondering how I would do a 90 day report if the passport is still away.

(Yep ... I am already fussing/worrying  .... over getting it back in time !$#@%)!.

I always go in person to Jomtien.

Those doing online,  dont show their passport .. maybe I need to get on the report on Line system  ?

Oh what fun that seems. Tried it a few times without success.

Also .. I guess I go to Jomtien Immigration and they transfer visa stamps etc to the new passport.

(My old passport was actually valid 12 years. I renewed it 2 years early in the UK .. and was very surprised to have got the 2 years added to the new passport).

So the video has been deleted ?  I am surprised he did that , I think it was his most popular video.

I had to check, nope it's still there, 15000 views now, If I was filmed in a bar like that  I would have reported it to Youtube.

I watched the video again .. well I skimped through it trying to get a screenshot of when he was filming quite a while INSIDE a bar .. to show the resulting screen dump ( blurring faces ) on here.  But I either missed it or he has edited it out.

    Hey Ho.

I am surprised You Tube allow all the swearing on his videos. F word and C word common. I swear but dont tape it and post it on You Tube.

He was taking a chance video-ing a group of lady boys. His childish laughter was not at the LBs but could have been misconstrued (?) and he get mashed.

The level of his immature stupidity was shown in another video when he walked into Soi 9 Police Station with his cam on a stick filming. He was very surprised to be soon told not to film. Bless.

The bit earlier when he was nabbed for no helmet riding his bike, in WS ... when the Policeman rode away with the vloggers keys  .. made me laugh. The vlogger to be fair was very confused ... but reasonably laid back.  I would have probably been a bit more of a drama queen.

I am not sure his filming outside Jomtien immigration with/interviewing an agent was very discreet.

The agent was Indian and the crazy vlogger was saying no need to have the right documents, just see this guy and gave his contact details.  Huge queue of those doing it correctly in background.

At the end he said .. the agent has just gone off on the back of a Policeman's bike (if I heard it right).  I guess these arrangement not exactly a big secret.

He did say later on that video he should maybe stop vlogging in red light areas. Eureka .. the penny has dropped.

He is off now I believe on a small motorbike, heading to Chaing Mai.  What could possibly go wrong.  I think he should rename himself Captain Chaos

  7. Not getting a Re-entry permit is certainly a huge pain/inconvenience.

I knew this .. so more incredulous I forgot on one occasion.

Whilst waiting for an ordered meal at BKK (waiting for our flight) I remembered.  Cue girly (on my part), serious panic and fluster.

Rushed the meal .. and then rushed a long way back to passport control.  (Try rushing a Thai girl from food. Ha ha).

l got it sorted.  But was not easy to find where I had to go and time consuming.

But the memory of my huge panic is still very vivid. The Thai girl I was with did not understand why I so flustered.

My only excuse is I do not travel out often. I was very lucky that I realised when I had just enough time to sort.

I would not risk leaving it to do at the airport unless you live a large distance from an immigration office.  I live a 10 bhat bus ride from one so stupid of me not to have done it in advance.

Absolutely  about Santander. Nightmare. Although I kept an account  open with them  I moved to Nationwide  years ago. I can't get an OTP from Santander or change my phone number. When people   criticize  Thai banks they seem to have no idea about lousy UK banks..

I dont wanna thread ferk tooooo much but a big problem with Santander bank for us Expats is that they dont have email contactability. So not suitable if you are going to move abroad.

But my main point is, it is not a Thai bank oddity to close unused accounts after 2 years. It happens with UK banks too.  And no doubt in many countrys.  Thai bashers take note.

You got to phone Santander and go through multi option phone extensions to end up with a recent uninterested school leaver ( by sound of voice and empathy ) and get zero proffesionalism.

My fault in a way .. I was too polite. I should have asked for a manager. I was thinking my son visiting my UK branch with a wad of documents and letters would get it sorted.

With email, a record of their incompetence would exist.

I got £90k in that account I cant access.  I cant open an account with another UK bank remotely (I never go back) but if I ever get my OTP sorted a big chunk of that will be moved to my Halifax account on day 1.

Halifax can be contacted by email and seem interested in solving any problem. Other good banks are available.  ($miley)

  9. It is not a Thailand bank querk to make accounts not used,  dormant and unaccessable.

I had 2 banks in the UK declare my accounts dormant after 2 years of inactivity.  I guess they assume the account holder may have died. Must happen hugely.

They held savings .. the point of savings being you SAVE the money till needed not spend the money .. was my point to them.  I no longer add money as I am retired, I said.

I naively thought logging in to the internet accounts often was registering usage  .. and was counting as them being active.  Durrrrrr !

Amongst other things they were my funds for medical emergencies. I did not like them being unaccessible.

Halifax restored accessability after one phone call and answering security questions.   Very polite. Very helpful.

Santander were and still are a nightmare.  4 long distant phone calls .. plus my son going into the local branch 4 times on my behalf ... have only partially resolved the problem.  He even showed them letters they had sent to my home address about the problem .. the address the account is connected with.

They restored the account as active.  Eventually.

BUT I had lost my mobile phone a few years back.  They have my old number.  They wont change my number on their system.  The people I have spoken to are suspicious. Despite me passing the security questions.   I need that changed for the OTP system of entering a code to move funds. I wont bore tooooo much re the many phone converstions I had but my last try ended with them saying they cannot change the phone number.  IT guys had to do it.  They would phone my new number. But never heard from them. Gave up.

Thus I cannot use the account that has tens of thousands of pounds in. Been like that for a year.   I dont need to use it .. but now send £5 a month into my UK savings accounts from my day to day account.

Writing this has concentrated my mind.  I am going to write to UK Finance Authority (or whatever they are called) and copy in Santander bank recorded delivery.  Then if not resolved after a couple of months I am sure I am going to have a further phone call to them .. ask for a manager and totally lose it.

    Hey Ho.

  10. This is an old thread .. but I assume me posting will put it in latest postings list.

Any one got an update if vax for shingles available in Thailand yet ?  I am going to email a few hospitals, (after my covid vax had time to settle (uh?). )   .... to ask.

I have had 4 bouts of it in about 2 years.  One was without the telltale horrendous rash and made me very ill.  Mr Google confirms shingles without the rash not uncommon .. and the most 'worstest'

    - but there a several other contenders.

Take a bow Mr. GG,  thanks for making me laugh out loud.

I never thought of that.  Your right.  He is probably one of those who gets a kick out of people taking it serious when he is talking rollocks / making it up.

The trouble being that normal people dont see the fun in being infantile and a smartarse.

He probably got an erection when reading we thought he was being serious.

Oh well ... he took me in.   (I am so young and innocent).

So your erection well deserved, sir. Enjoy.

Mind you ...  I only read the OP heading and peoples postings.  Durrrrrrrr.

So I blame the posters for being taken in.. ($mileee).

  13. If it helps any one get prepared for same same ....

I went yesterday (10th).  11.00. About 100 in queue. But not long before I was second jabbed.

Thus I had to go to the usual area to chill/be monitored for a reaction/wait for vax certificate.

It was full.  I reckon 150 people ... so we were directed to an adjacent area.  My slip had a time on as before on vax 1 as the time your observation time over (as I understand it).

That 30 minute time went by ... and I noticed many people were getting restless.  A few complaining. A number of russians and others got very vocal.

My frustration was the amplified calling of numbers not clear where we were.  After 1 hour I thought I must have missed my number called. But no.  People vaxed after me were called and got the certificate.  One guy vaxed at same time had got his paperwork after 1 hour. A further 1 hour later I was still there waiting.

Numbers way passed my number (some 50 plus more) were being called.

So in total I waited about 2 hours after my vaxing to get the paperwork.  Most of us were just confused what was happening.   Eventually I asked the guy on the microphone what the delay was. We only had to wait 30 mins for paperwork vax 1. He was being hassled so I left him alone, for a long time.

I was curious what the problem was ... was their computer crashed or something (to produce the paperwork).   He looked annoyed as I approached thinking I was gonna be another whinger.

He said no .. we just very busy today.  Hard to believe as they seemed to be handing out certificates in batches of about 6 only every 10 minutes.  60 an hour when they had hundreds waiting.

It was no hardship to wait 2 hours for the paperwork.  It was just confusing and a worry you have been forgotten.  Well .... except many others in same boat, cursing and swearing and sighing in frustration.

So if your going next week take something to read.   And chill if long wait.

There did not seem any queue to be vaxed after about 13.00.  But then you would have to join the hold up in the vaxed waiting area.

Get the card you need at any Market from today.

But hey ! Why bother, nobody is going to check

It will be as in one of those scannable patterny thingys.   They could scan it at the mall / bar / gogo / etc entrance. It instantly checks a central database if expatvac etc etc.

Random checks by Police or immigration when you do 90 day might start. Takes a second.

The app is already downloadable from all good app stores and no doubt some Thai gov site soon.  It already shows your vax record when you download it now. (If you were vaxed in the Expatvac programme).

No smart phone ? ... you will have to print it and have a hard copy. It wont be a simple easily forged slip of paper.

The app I am guessing when scanned .... will show name of holder what vaxed they had and when and what colour knickers the nurse was wearing.

Ok .. it may require further evidence it is yours. Your passport or id being carried is already the current law.

But I agree your probably get away with it.  But its 20,000 baht fine for not wearing a mast. Good luck with what happens to you if you forge a vax certificate and get caught.

If the authorities realise there is a maket in false vax certificates they will get very vigilant.

People on here and in real life already bragging they going to get a forged cerficate. It wont be a big secret.  Dont brag too much. Your get reported.

Good luck to those caught selling forged cerficates too.   Once one is caught and gets serious jail time the rest will think twice.  If you do your own forgery you better make it good.

    A crowded jail cell awaits.

The 7 year rule is for Inheritance tax only, when it comes to care fees there is no time limit , the piece below was taken from, robert barber solicitors, you need to get professional help with this, to avoid falling into issues later.

can I gift my house to my children to avoid care home fees?”

You may well be seen as intentionally depriving yourself of an asset by the authorities. People usually wish to transfer ownership to family members because they believe that in the event that they go into residential or nursing care the house will not be counted for the purpose of calculating how much of their care home fees they would have to pay themselves. The local authority usually sees this as you deliberately reducing your assets so as to qualify for state funded care and they have the discretion to refuse to pay for your care because of this.

I agree.   Potentially a 100 percent  "tax" on any money / property I have. My son very aware of that making him "homeless" / getting nothing.

100 percent 'tax' with no £500,000 threshold so devestating.

Hey ho.   Best I not think tooooooooo much.   My son may have a nice house for life or nothing.

I guess if oldies are just frail its manageable at home .. here or in UK.

When an oldies mind goes care is gonna get expensive.

  16. My son has lived in my house in England during the nearly 10 years I have lived here.

We looked into me gifting the house to him but the lawyer we contacted said I /we would have to pay 40 percent capital gains tax on the difference between the market value (£500,000 plus) and the price I paid for it (£42,000) many years ago.

A huge sum he has not got ...... and that I was certainly not going to pay to give him my house..

There is much doubt that this advice was correct.    A bank manager said that was rubbish. But it ended my interest in giving him my home.

Actually .... I have always thought that I could gift him the house but he would have to pay tax on the value on my death ... on a sliding percentage scale but if I lived 7 years it would be tax free.

BUT .. in my circumstance ... that would mean I would be homeless if I return to England.  I may get ill, or muck up visa requirements or get fed up.

I read that I cannot have anything to do with the home.  I cannot live there as his guest.  Well I can but it invalidates his getting it tax free on my death.  I cant be his guest.

So its a freaking nightmare ... if I let it get to me.  But I dont let it. Just aware..

I need the comfort of having a nice home to go to .. not a cheap bedsit in a bad area (a horrible thought I have).  I got to look after myself after working hard all my life .. 80 plus hour working weeks for decades. Not to mention paying a huge divorce settlement

ANOTHER horrible thought for him and me.   In the UK (some areas) house prices are going up 10 percent per year.

My house is worth about £500,000 (I think more but keeping the maths easier).  So its increasing by £50,000 a year.  At 40 % he will need to find £20,000 a year just to pay the death tax .. i.e just to stay still financially.

£500,000 is the death tax allowance when leaving a sum including a home to your child(ren).

In 5 years at 10 percent property inflation he will have to pay £100,000 death tax.  Its complicated because I should be leaving cash too ... depending on how long I live.

It will be taxable too at 40 percent.

Its freaking unfair.  I veer between not wanting to spend to help him pay the tax so he can keep the house to thinking ferk it ... the UK gov are gonna get 40 percent of the little they left me ... after me paying tax on the money originally.  So I think spend it.

My hope is Boris will honour his pledge from years ago .. I think 2 winning elections ago to revamp death tax to a flat rate 10 percent for everyone .. leaving peanuts or squillions.

But covid expense has ferked lots of plans.

10 percent property inflation means they will get a huge death tax bonanza but means family houses will need to be sold to pay it.  It effects rich with mansions more than plebs like me so I am surprised it not seem to be imminent.

But it will be fairer.   Didnt mean to have a rant but feel  better for it.

I think Boris reads this forum avidly.

Its not the end of world for my son ... getting a nice house but having to downsize to pay the death tax.

I aint gonna torture myself over him too much  ... but he would like to keep it as its now his home of 10 years.

I have asked a few Thais and they had been vaxed with 1 dose of Sinovac and had appointments for a second dose.

I guess its maybe happening via Thai lanquage sites/tv ... but not obvious to us non Thais.

I had an appointment with BPH for Astra Zeneca on Sept, 7th but received an sms 2 days ago stating that I had an appointment today for Pfizer. I've just returned home from receiving it in what was an effiicient, well-run operation set up on the top floor of Central Festival. I have a note confirming the second jab (Sept. 9th). All free of charge. I'm very happy and very grateful.

Exactly what occurred with me.  I ended up with 2 vax offers .. as confusingly 2 schemes were run by different government depts both carried out by BHP (I go get the Pfizer jab early tomorrow and will cancel AZ Sep 7th).

I have been telling anyone I know last few days (not many) I passed in street that getting vaxed in Pattaya if over 60 is now easy.  They mostly (3 different guys) were anti vaxers and one went on a rant.

Oh well ..  Beyond my comprehension.
