  1. Does anyone know anyone who has actually had to turn in these new forms? I have had two extensions since the changes were announced and there has been no change in the forms I turn in, or changes in the procedure at the immigration office.

I also asked my school about any new forms I might need when I do the renewal, they said nothing but new photos needed.

The owner of the school I am at (I actually go to class and study BTW) says the new folks in charge have been backing off on some of the proposed crackdowns. FWIW

If you have done 2 extensions you must have been studying for at least 6 months, right ? Did you have to do a Min. of Ed test ? As I asked in another thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/737995-ed-visa-moe-test-after-6-months/ the office girls at my school tell me I have to do a test soon, but from previous experience I'm not sure if they know what they are talking about (see that thread). Nobody has answered my query yet, so I'm beginning to think nobody else has done this supposed test at 6 months and the office girls are talking rubbish.

Yeah I have been in school for close to a year now. I'm gonna ask again at school tomorrow.

On a positive note, all this has inspired me to be a more diligent student and study harder. Nothing like a little fear to put a fire under your ass 555

At least you are being honest, unlike some ,well done sir

  2. You can study 1 course for 3 years (at the visa factory schools). For example, you can study Thai for 3 years, then Japanese for 3 years, then German for 3 years, etc.

I would recommend that you actually go to classes if you can't speak the languages, because there is a yearly test at the Ministry of Education (at least for Thai).

A better option would be to go to a cheap international university. Courses are very easy, and you only have to take 4-5 classes a semester to be eligible. I slept/skipped halfway through my classes with Bs and As. You'll spend around 60-100k a year, but you get a 1 year visa, and don't have to keep extending every 3 months. You'll also get a degree in the process which means eventually you can legally work here in the 30k a month teaching position you've been dreaming of (or actually get hired at a decent position). Also, university skirts!

I've seen 30-40 year olds in a couple classes so I know a few are taking this route.

    30k

who would get out of bed for that

  3. Is it not possible to get 3 years ed visa and then get another consecutive one??

I know people who have been here the best part of ten years "learning Thai" and they can barely stutter a word

There is also boxing schools and cooking schools who can issue ed visas AFAIK

How exactly are they going to crack down on those?

These people WILL get found out, already immigration are asking basic thai questions, if they cant answer, they are warned that the next 90 day,if cannot answer a question ,they will be refused and deported, about time too.

  4. You should take the dog to the vets, have him checked out, eye drops for his eyes.

Give him a good bath, worming tablets and heartworn tablets.

Buy him decent brand dog food and if you well off enough buy him a wheel chair.

If you not well off, send me a PM and I will give you wheel chair for free, proving it fits him/her.

I have a disabled dog with broken legs and spine , I would never put him down.

He has had 5 surgery's and all has healed but he can not walk.

He is very happy and has a great life, inability to walk only bothers me, he is not bothered at all.

He is use to it, he has a huge smile every day, chases cats, plays with other dogs and goes for walks in his wheel chair.

If you love dogs and want to help , help to improve his life instead of killing him.

As I said, if you need advice or wheel chair , drop me a line, happy to help

The dog has an owner, so would be a bit difficult to take the dog away.

  5. Prayuth in reality has to take the position .

There at this moment in time cannot be any remote possibilty of any political figure from whatever political persusion being placed in the position of Prime Minister.

The matter is delicate and as I have said for a long time Thailand needs an interim period ( my feeling is some two years) in which to re-establish a somewhat cleaner political, civil legal and far less corrupt society.

We are not in my lifetime anyway, nor my childrens either for that matter likely to see corruption swept away, it will always be with us to a lesser degre as it is in every other national society in our world.

The second possibility involves Prayuth retiring and appointing his most trusted aide to be Army chief while he would continue as NCPO chief and PM to balance his power.

The above scenario in my view would be the best way to go,

Thailand is at a crossroads politically and socially, the route taken in the very near future will decide the future of Thailand and its peoples.

Which road is the right road?

    Indeed a vexing question.

The only road is a democratic 1 man 1 vote way. The only problem is how can thais trust anybody at the moment, they are all crooks

  6. The raids on clubs in Pattaya have been going on for years.A tip off for drugs activity makes the police do their job at long last, and try to stamp out drugs, and lack of drink license too.

I suppose it can spoli the fun for some but 5am isnt exactly early, and the big worry is how many go home by car or motorbike, amazing how stupid some are

  7. It is as simple as this: you have the right to show your ass but you don't have the right to cover your body...........Do what you want with your body but please don't cover it...well done France .....keep on dividing your people

What a silly post, to the extreme

where do you have the right to show your ass

Where dont you have the right to cover your body

Surely this is about not showing your face when in a bank or airport.

I bet the french have to take off hats and sunglasses

  8. How about the "Come learn Thai at my language school and we will get you a long term visa" advertisements that we often see. Will these schools still be able to use this 'loop hole' to increase their business.

This is caled an ed visa. no loophole, but abuse is rife. Some have been getting ed visa, mainly kiddies, and cant even count to 100.

I read somewhere that one has to show an income for an ed visa, and are being checked at immigration, to see if they are actualy turning up for learning thai.

  9. Obviously, if you bought a vehicle and/or signed a lease/purchased a condo...then you should not be thinking about Tourist Visas anymore.

It would be great if Immigration would come out with an "Amnesty" agreement. In other words, a residency card for law abiding, foreigners who have no record of criminal activity and who have good income. Perhaps some references from some upstanding Thai business people as well.

Clearly...I can see a need for an indefinite "Residency Card". I had one for the Philippines for quite some time. No need for annual O Visas and extensions of stays. All other means (Tourist Visas/Visa exempts) are no longer an options...it appears. At best, I can see a lot of nervous people trying to dance the "two-step" while Immigration throws out a series of questions every time you return to Thailand. That would always be a negative.

A nice followup to these Crackdowns would be an announcement of such a residency card. Perhaps just an annual reporting in would also free up Immigration to better deal with overstayers/abusers of Visas ...especially those who are committing crimes or working illegally.

Hope to read something about this in the future....and am hoping for the best

You don't get it do you? The Thai don't want foreigners living in Thailand. Kid yourself all you want, but visa or no visa, you are not 'welcome' to stay long term. And to think that the Thai differentiate between 'good and bad' foreigners is ridiculous. All foreigners are bad.

You are talking like it affects you???

A stupid statement. Thailand do not want non thais abusing the system, ED visas will be next, that will be the end of the under 50 illegal workers, many many of them

It certainly doesn't affect me at the moment. I work a 28/28 rotatation so rarely have an issue of being in the country over the 30 day stamp. However I'm married to a Thai, and sometimes for one reason or another stay over the 30 days. I will get a non 'o' multi next month from Savanakhet for this very reason.

Good man, it is so easy to comply to immigration requirements, no hassle in the slightest, good luck

  11. I believe there is, at least there was a non o( others)

This was a 1 year visa issued to people who had a letter of invitation from a Thai .

Not sure if it still exist or issued, but this might be the only choices for those wanting to stay long term but under the retirement age.

Yes ED is still an option but I think they will start testing the skills

The days when getting a Non O for visiting Thai friends have long gone,

You need to be over 50 or married, but even then it isn't that straight forward.

It was abused for years. The bottom line is that many people under 50(non thai) have been working without work permit, and immigration want to stop this.
