  1. Hi

the fees went up in april here:-http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/news/feestable060409 and here:- http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecont.../feesfrom060409

so in theory shouldn't go up again until next year but who knows, but yes apply asap as the rules can always change, and as thai visa express states they are coming through in quick time I hope they are this quick in october when my wife is due to apply.

all the best with the application

  2. Hi can anyone help with the following

1 how long are the applications taking for British citizenship at the moment

2 after being accepted for British citizenship is there a time limit in which the ceremony must be attended

the reason for the questions is we are planning a trip to thailand after the application for british citizenship and want to book the tickets, but do not want to clash with any time limit for the ceremony

    many thanks

  3. Are you 100% sure about having to be in the UK for over 3 years before you can apply for citizenship ?

    Yes, I am 100% sure.

From Requirements for naturalisation if you are married to or the civil partner of a British citizen

    Residential requirements

In order to demonstrate the residential requirements for naturalisation you need to:

    • have been resident in the United Kingdom for at least three years (this is known as the residential qualifying period); and
    • have been present in the United Kingdom three years before the date of your application; and
    • have not spent more than 270 days outside the United Kingdom during the three-year period; and
    • have not spend more than 90 days outside the United Kingdom in the last 12 months of the three-year period; and
    • have not been in breach of the immigration rules at any stage during the three-year period.

Thanks for the clear info at last,,,,,,,I must admit it was some sandal wearing numpty that gave me the wrong advice at croydon ,,,,,,, the downside to this is it means another 2.5 years of schengen visa nonsense to go on our holidays ,,,,,,,,Jesus!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldnt want it any other way , but life is so complicated with a Thai wife thanks to our UK government

The key word here is resident - does a person who enters on a tourist visa count as a resident or are they a tourist. I think that would be a tourist it would be better surely to wait until the first day of entry as a spouse or a fiancee before counting the three years.

  4. My wife has her Indefinite leave to remain visa and now she has to wait 1 year before she can get her UK passport, the immigration didn't say anything about taking a citizenship test, she took an ESOL course instead of the life in the UK test but didn't have to go to a citizenship ceremony.

After getting ILR and before getting a british passport, your wife will have to apply for british citizenship (£700.00 or so) she can apply on the third aniversary of her arrival in UK. after receiving citizenship she will then have to attend a ceremony.

  5. its really easy if you know where to go and what to do

    1) go to emabassy with yours and hers pappers and aplied for a affidavid (take 24 hours)

    2) get the affidavid translated to thai language

    3) with these translated affidavid go to forieng affairs and submit papper there (will take 1 day, pick up next day)

    4) go to amphoe to get married this will take a hour (i recommend Lak Si amphoe) this amphoe is right accros the street 1 km on your left hand side this way you can bring papper direkt back to forien afairs

    5) go to forien affairs to get pappers legelised

    6) go to translater to get all pappers translated to your language

    7) go back to your embassy or consulate and submit them (go can also direktly apply for her visa)

    8) gongatualations you are now a married man :o

it take only 4 days to complete all when i get married

Point 7 no need to go to embassy, thai marriage certificates are accepted by uk imigration

  6. Some good advice here on this page.

I am a UK citizen, and will be going through this all in the next few months.

Is it a big pain in the a$$ to get my partners bank accounts ( we have 3 joint ones ) passport , tabian baan etc... changed into her new surname? Is her passport with her old surname obsolete as soon as we marry?

    cheers

    Choppy

why are you trying to change name in all documents, she can continue using her maiden name, her passport is still valid and she can get all visas stamped in this, ILR included don't make yourself work for no reason!!

  7. If a FLR is obtained due to not passing the citizenship test, would it not be possible to avoid a ILR and go straight to Citizenship,( 3 years resident in uk) therefore avoiding the £750.00 fee.

No because you have to have an ILR visa for 1 year before you can get a UK passport and you need to be in the UK for a minimum of 2 years before you can get an ILR visa but you must get the ILR before you can get a UK passport.

    many thanks for that

  8. Looking at the forms on the immigration bureau site.

Q1-form tm 28. do I as a visitor have to fill in this form and take it to the police or immigration,

and Q2- does this form tm 30 have to be done by the property owner also,

so is it one of the other or both?.

I am arriving 26th December for a six week holiday. staying in family home in Plutaluang (near u-tapao)

    any help would be appreciated
