  1. I think a possible answer to this will be

    1. A work permit

    2. 2 visa runs to Cambodia followed by a three month multiple entry tourist visa from Penang, followed by 2 Cambodian (jack golf type) visa runs, Penang tourist visa... and so on...

    3. A marriage visa with a external bank account with funds for spending here.

    4. An investment visa (3 mil in a government savings bong ac or a brand new condo unit...e.g. View talay project 7 b4 its built)

    5. A marriage visa where the wife has the supportive income for you

    6.....anybody with any more ideas.

hopefully this helps a little, I'm interested in the Penang tourist visa option, will this work?

Immigration confirms the end of border runs from October 1, 2006

Thailand tightens visa rules for tourists to cut illegal workers

BANGKOK: -- Thailand will tighten entry regulations for tourists in a bid to crack down on illegal foreign workers, the Immigration Bureau said.

The move, which takes effect October 1, would affect tourists from 41 countries including Australia, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the US, said Suwat Thamrongsrisakul, the head of the bureau.

Currently, tourists from 41 countries can enter Thailand without visas and stay in the kingdom for up to 30 days.

They can extend their stay by checking out of the country, mainly by crossing the borders of neighboring Cambodia and Laos, and returning with new entry stamps.

'Under the current rules, people from those countries can stay in Thailand as long as they want. Some even stay here for one year,' another bureau official said.

The bureau had learned that a growing number of foreigners from the 41 countries worked illegally in Thailand, Suwat said, adding many were employed in bars and restaurants in the popular seaside resort of Pattaya, east of Bangkok.

'Tourists are taking advantage of the visa exemption law. Instead of sightseeing, they are doing business here,' Suwat said.

From October, tourists from the designated countries can still enter Thailand without visas and stay for up to 30 days, but their entry stamps will be renewable twice at most for a maximum stay of 90 days.

Tourists who stayed for 90 days must leave the kingdom for at least 90 days before being permitted to re-enter Thailand, Suwat said.

If the purpose of the rule changes are what they have claimed, I would be very surprised, if they allow you to easily circumvent, thier intent, by issueing a tourist visa, after back to back border runs. I suspect that they will deny the tourist visa and tell you to come back in 90 days.

It may be, that those people, that do not fit any other long term visa criteria, may be forced to get the elite visa, spend 50% of the year outside the kingdom, or relocate.

  2. Does anyone think they are done, or are they in the proccess of revamping all visa classes?

    Ray

excellent question. this could be a complete overhaul of all visa types. wonder how the high and mighties will feel about potenially being affected as well. That would be justice I suppose to those who thought they were comfy in their visa situations while looking down at those in a predicament over these developments. All i can say is watch your back, you may be next

First the foriegn corporations, tesco, Big C etc. then the visa runners, now investment visas, Seems that they are rethinking all foreingn involvement in Thailand, could be a busy week, with a lot more changes to come.

  3. Oh Great. I am planning to move to Thailand Oct. 1st. I had planned on using a tourist visa, as I have friends in Cambodia and will be spending some days there each month anyway. Now I must sort out the O visa, retirment visa. should I get the visa here in the US? Can I sort this out by Oct 1st? Should I come on the tourist visa, and attempt to sort it when I get there? Do I risk spending 90 days in Cambodia?

If I get a retirment visa here, can I renew it in Thailand?

    More headaches. TIT

  4. As far as $200 amonth homes, Ive seen some very nice upcountry city homes that rent for $100 a month. You can live very well for $1000 a month. Car motor cycles, internet, sattelite TV aircon etc.

As far as women, the hardest part is getting rid of them. At 55 years old, it seems that I cannot spend more than a few days anywhere in Thailand, without having a twenty something year old girl attaching her self to me.

  6. English man caught in possession of 200g of Marijuana in Central Pattaya.

    18_05_2.jpg

    18_05_2_2.jpg

Officers from Pattaya Police Station were on routine patrol in the Central Pattaya area on Wednesday Night when then spotted a foreign man who appeared nervous when he spotted their distinctive Brown uniforms.

The Officers decided to approach the man who was driving his motorbike along Soi Jirapon. He was asked to pull-over and fully complied. A search of the man, later identified as Mr. Steven Church aged 42 from England, was conducted and he was found to be carrying a 200g packet of the class 5 drug Marijuana.

At Pattaya Police Station he gave no information on the origins of the drug but did claim the Marijuana was purchased for personal use only. He was charged with Class 5 drugs offences and is now in the hands of the Pattaya Provincial Court who will decide his fate.

He was stopped because he appeared nervous! Yeah right.

Any farang naieve enough to think that they can be part of the local drug trade, belongs in jail

  7. You file in the area of the US that you live. This is not filed with the Embassy but is requesting BCIS (or whatever they call themselves this week) to grant permission for her to apply for the visa. It is a two step process. After permission is received paperwork is then presented to Embassy for the actual visa.

As said all that is required is filling out half a dozen forms so if you can do your 1040 it should not be a problem. Just make sure you read instructions first and if you don't understand get help from

an on line group or by calling them.

  8. Elevators work on a counter weight system, making it near impossible for them to fall.

This is backed up with a speed controlled braking system.

There are three to four main cables which would have to be disconnected or broken, and the speed braking would have to be disabled as well.

Thai mechanics... says it all really.

Do you think that elevators in Thailand have all the safety feature we have in the west. They probably have catalytic converters on all there autos also?

Having worked mantaince for large corporations for years, I know that , what ever safety systems were on this elevator, were the minmum required by local law at the time of installation.

  9. I have had the same problem, in fact I dropped a stool sample off at the hospital, last thursday. I should know if it is a bacteria or worms, sometime this week.

I think that the next trip, I will take some antibiotics, and a worm pill with me.

I like to add ice to my beer, when in the LOS, perhaps this is whetre I am getting it, my

smptoms seem to be the same as yours, about a week into the trip, and I come down with a case of the screaming shites!

    Good Luck

  10. Hi everyone, I know this topic will have been covered several times but I would just like some help and advice about it if possible.

Everytime I visit Thailand I am ok for the 1st week or so then I suddenly get a bad stomach and the feeling like my body is totally run down. I just feel terrible. Always needing the toilet for a number 2, no energy, sweating. Last year one time when I went to the toilet for a number 2 I was wipping my arse after the duty was done I seen blood in my crap, well I was really worried, couple more wipes but no-more blood, I put it down to a clot of blood in my crap!

It really gets me down and spoils the rest of my trip. Last year a took electrolite power every morning when I woke up and another before I went out but I still got sick. The only thing I can put it down to is sometimes when I go to places such a KFC, pizza hut etc etc I drink ice-chiiled water from the container that is on the side, not realizing that the ice will have been made up for their local tap water, this correct?

Another thing is that when I have had a few beers :o sometimes I buy some meat products from the guys pushing the vending carts, could this be a cause?

My trip is 3 months away and I have been racking my brain of what I can do so this trip is not spoiled. I have read that I can take a spoon full of pepto-bismol every morning may help me not get the stomach bug, true??

Has anyone else got any ideas that may help me out because I would be very greatful!

    Thanks everyone.

  11. They will take advantage of you if they can.

I made it clear with my tgf, that when we were married, that I could not and would not try to support her whole family. I told her that I would help her parents, with gifts of money in amounts that I felt comfortable with, because it is the right thing to do to support parents.

I also instructed her to inform her family of this, as asking me for money would be a waste of thier time, and cause them loss of face, as I will refuse. Any gifts from me will be at my choosing.

My money, my rules. If they cannot survive without a rich farang, I sugested that they find thier own rich farang!

The more you give the more they ask for. Be firm from day one.

  12. Whilst out for our sunday afternoon wander we met our local buffalo man taking his charges for a swim.

In jest, I asked my wife to find out how much for a buffalo :D

OK, a one year buffalo (either sex) will cost 10,000 Baht. We have the man's contact details and he will deliver anywhere in the Pathum Thani area free, a nominal charge for delivery to central Bangkok!  :o

So, next time the nice lady comes up with the 'sick buffalo' line you can replace said item, and sleep soundly in the knowledge that the sick animal has been replaced with a quality beast from a known pedigree.  :D

Piccy of the beasties enjoying their wallow.

No address or phone number for Buffalo salesman?

I would send one to Ketsiree mother, just to see her response.

  13. Conceder purchasing gold bar for investment a bit better as ornament (content of gold) , the price is similar .. One has labor cost the other gold content bit higher!

China town is reputable for gold purchases.

Think it will be hard for you to resell outside Thailand!

I personaly would not buy Thai bullion. For the same reason somewhat difficult to sell outside of Thailand. I would purchase Maple leaves, or some other 24kt. coins. Avoid Rands also if planning on selling them in Thailand, as the copper content makes them very difficult to sell in Asia.

I invested in gold this June, because of the oil and terorist situations, also the continuing decline of the USD. I purchased Canadian Maple leaves.

Doing well, up about 11% Good Luck
