And a BUPA Private Hospital would be???
in the UK you would pay 16,000 baht annually for the NHS surcharge which comes with unlimited coverage both in and out patient, no pre-existing conditon exclusions and its for any age
mandatory for long stay settlement visas
source: https://www.gov.uk/healthcare-immigration-application/how-much-pay
oh and of course being a developed country, after 5 years they give you a passport and you don't have to pay it ever again.
not 50-250K every year until you die broke in your late 90s with a policy that covered $%$% all of consequence.

Wait and see..remember that the rule re money in Thai bank was announced only 4/5 weeks before it commenced on 1st MarchMandatory health insurance for retirement visa holders likely to take effect in July

FOREIGNERS aged 50 and above living in Thailand on a long-stay visa will likely have to buy health insurance from July onwards, as authorities are preparing guidelines to enforce the new rules.
Approved by the Cabinet last month, the new regulation will require expats on the long-stay non-immigrant O-A visa to have health insurance that offers Bt40,000 coverage for outpatient treatment and Bt400,000 for inpatient.
https://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/national/30369468
When did local Immigration offices start issuing the long stay O-A Visa?
When they mention expats on extensions of temporary permission of stay, then you can be concerned. Currently it's only suggested it will be applicable to Non O-A Visa applications.
I repeat..I have a very reliable source..a good friend who IS NOT A B/S merchant.

Think you can take it that extensions of stay..marriage/retirement will be included in the new rule re h/care.I don't think that is limited to Bab 103.
It kicks in come 1st July.
Sad but true folks

There are h/care ins co's which offer policies to very senior citizens. In the European countries I know and which have a mandatory insurance it is mandatory for the insurance companies as well to insure anybody. It cannot be a one sided requirement.
In Thailand nobody wants to have free health care and profit from somebody else. But I understand everybody who wants to stay if he has the funds to do that without being a burden. You could be 85 years old and a multimillionaire. And you would want to refuse this person to stay here by making it mandatory to have an insurance which nobody wants to offer ? This person is and will never be a burden financially and in my eyes it is not very compassionate to ignore that. You would do unspeakable harm to this person - completely unjustified. And I do not think the reasoning of "few collaterals that cannot be avoided" is appropriate. Especially if you think of the aim of this exercise. It is possible to have a solution that fits all. I think this is really the core of all this.
Of course you should have the means to be able to pay for your health, which could be demonstrated by having a sum in a fixed account. This would even guarantee that in case of sickness the bills can be paid for sure. An insurance company on the other hand might refuse to pay because of anything and nothing is gained. I thought the aim was to reduce the amount of unpaid bills. Just think yourself which approach would assist here more.
Also..I am sure that the relevant authorities could eg..let expats leave a financial bond for h/care purposes with financial concerns.
Lets wait and see what transpires over the next few weeks shall we??

Take the boulder of your shoulder..Thailand is just following many other countries re immigrants/healthcare.So will I have to get health insurance for Lady Roadrunner too!? She already costs me enough.
We Farang need some collective way to petition the Thai Gov't and Immigration. Right now they just do as they please with the reg's that affect our lives. How can they expect people to retire here with no surety of tenure?
The health insurance requirement may not affect retirees yet but it's coming for sure.
Bottom line is you can stay .... so long as you have money. Typical Thailand.
Imagine a Thai wanting to retire to eg..Spain..
1..he/she would need to show a fat bankbook.
1..He/she would also require to have a very pricy healthcare insurance policy.

Sorry, my English is less as from a Native Brit. I have the advantage I also speak my native Dutch, fluent German ( won a bet from a german I am NON a German), French and a little Italian. Yesterday evening at German WDR -TV I heard for the first time a Brit - after 30 years stationed in Germany - who could speak reasonable another language… for 40 % of so... How good is your non-British language knowledge ?
For Netherlands.. yes, we will have some disadvantages for our fresh fruit and vegetable exports, but a LOT of advantages seen all British companies already settling in into NL and around. For instance the EU Medicine Agency and.. soon the production of the Mini in Borne. Suits very well in the parts and components exchange between Belgium, Germany and Netherlands. I must confess: a Gift of the Gods. Beyong any dreans before 2016. That approx. 1 % EU contribution ( inclusive a lot what is done together like food safety reaearch and contol under EFSA and RASFF you have to do soon alone) – call it “commission” - we are very willing to pay for all the advantages.
Corrupt… I would rather call some British Parliament members.
Thanks to EU subsidies quite some areas of the Eastern member states are now able to work together with the Western states. See for instance how many Western origin factories work there now. Soon.. with the labourers, who do now the dirty jobs in UK. Wish you good luck with strawberry picking next season.
I do not pick strawberries[emoji6]
At school..I dropped foreign languages to study other subjects.
You are very welcome to all the immigrants from the eastern eu states..in the UK..the crime rate is UP due to some eastern eu state immigrants being involved in the horrible stuff.
That is..child prostitution..forced marriages..hard drugs..protection rackets etc.
Me..the quicker the UK leaves the economically sinking eu ... the better.
Have a nice evening.
Ps..it will be great fun watching the diehard eu federalists pull their hair out or pull their wigs off when all the populist parties run amok in a couple of weeks.
Vive the afD, the french rally..and all the rest.[emoji6][emoji6][emoji6]

Thailand is following most other countries in the world. The Thai government is hostile and without empathy for the people who have lived in Thailand for many years.
Farangs puts more money in Thailand an average of Thaier, but will not give us equal rights with the Thais for health insurance. It is crazy, hostile and completely wrong as one will treat resident prisoners.
Many families are destroyed, and many fathers lose everything they have invested over many years, and many have to go home.
If you are over 80, no one will insure your health, and a health insurance for people up to the 80 costs about 91,000 Baht a year.
It is not at all in relation to the demands for income that are set for the retirement visa or married visa, one is completely out in the hemp.
The fact that you will require insurance for those who holiday in Thailand seems to be in perfect order, but the extended measures that are underway are unstable and very hostile.
I am 79 years married 11 years and help two children in four year to finish university. I have never been sick and have live here 12 years. All I have here I lose that way, and have nothing to go back to.
WHY TO MAKE LIFE DIFFICULT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Example..if a Thai person wanted to get a visa for eg..mainland europe for the purpose of retirement..he/she would have to have a rather fat bankbook and a top notch healthcare policy.
Think about it.

That was Derek Robinson. Died a while back. What British Leyland screwed up by producing piles of unreliable crap Red Robbo added to the chaos by attempting to get the members even more money for producing a pile of crap. Then of course some time in the late 70's that Tory business brain Michael Edwardes was brought in to Leyland. What a genius this guy was ! Always remember his claim that he had reduced BLs losses by 50% . Problem was even Toad of Toad Hall could have worked out that if every car is produced at a loss then 50% of that production would half the loss. The penny did drop some years later though. It was not Red Robbo that ruined BL, although he contributed to the malaise. It was the management refusing to implement higher spending in R & D and quality control. Couldn't accept that the Germans and Japanese were producing reliable cars that people actually wanted to buy.
The dinosaurs who thought we are British, therefore people will always buy British cars claptrap. That self same dinosaur philosophy that has manifested itself to this very day in Brexiteers.
To this etc etc..guess we will have to wait ans see now!!

Over 1,000,000 Scots VOTED FOR BREXIT..or did that " slip your mind "..???Good god - the reek of desperation from that headline is totally underlined by the pathetic attempt to report something from nothing. You have to commend Daily Express reporters for their valiant efforts to turn sh!t into headlines - but I have no sympathy for the people who read this comic book garbage day after day and think that they are getting a credible and unbiased window on the world.
In the most recent Yougov Survey, explicitly pro-remain parties in Scotland are polling at 60%. A significant number of Labour voters will also be pro-remain, and even some hardcore tories. Face fact - Scotland sees the Brexit Party for what it is, and we are laughing so hard at it - as we are at your nonsense headline.
SNP 38%,
Brexit Party 21%,
Liberal Democrats 11%,
Labour 10%,
Greens 9%,
Conservatives 6%,
Change UK 2%

Is that the best you can do??To be fair, the typically warm Scottish welcome slipped last time he ventured north of the border.
Nigel Farage barricaded in Scottish pub and rescued by police riot van
Surprisingly, for such a patriot, it appears that Farage doesn't even know the flag of England. For one who was instrumental in the forming of the EDL, I would have thought he knew the difference between the Union flag and the St George's Cross.
"A shaken Mr Farage told reporters: “We have never had a reception like this anywhere in Britain before. Clearly, it’s anti-British and anti-English. They hate the Union Jack.”"

Excellent post sirSo, if we leave with no deal, do you think that there will not be multiple businesses both in and outside the EU who will line up to do business with the UK, or will they all say "oh dear, stop business with the UK?" Don't think so and of course our trading markets will open up considerably because we will not be hide bound by EU Law. Sure, in the immediate term, there will be a down turn, by I strongly believe that the UK will go "hell for leather" to expand business to people who we currently cannot trade with and the Foreign Office already has people out, all over the World exploring new markets. Sure, we can't at the moment strike up any new deals, but watch this space once we are out. Roll on Brexit!

I'm old enough to remember the late forties sunshine. And yes the amassing recovery by the UK's manufacturing industries, rebuilding of a broken Britain and homeless people by many immigrants to the UK, without their input housing would have been even more dire and despite all the labour issues re-build it the UK did. But the back bone of the British working class were certainly ended when the anti-christ Thatcher got in never to recover and become so reliant on the "service" industries and the dubious deregulated financial system that she and crazy Ronald allowed to be put in place . Yes remember it very well.
Cheers for the " sunshine " bit, as I am a positive thinking hard line Brexiteer.
Born 1950..I also remember the not so good times.
I also remember red robbo .. I think that was his name..also unions demanding 25% wage increases etc etc.
NEVER AGAIN A LABOUR/MARXIST GOVT .. it is a recipe for CIVIL WAR !!!!!

Are you old enough to remember the late 70's..the utter shambles that was the UK..sick man of europe etc etc.You asked stephenterry for his home brew recipe yet you followed up with your own comment " Lastly..the UK Armed Forces would imho.." step in "...and .. well..work it out for yourself. "
Never mind about his home brew recipe, yours seem to be more potent and hallucinogenic, recipe please. [emoji23]
The UK Armed Forces would probably had made a move to stop the " rot " that was a labour govt..but then along came late Great Maggie Thatcher!!@

Wait and see what comes along come July of this year. But you are. Unless you provide accurate facts and sources to back up your comments, what you have written in your post is just pure gossip, plain and simple.
I do not talk b/s.
Remember this..expats were given only a few weeks re the money in Thai banks.
Announced think it was late January..came into effect 1st March.
Thailand is slowly catching up with many other countries re foreigners having to pay their way..and not being a financial burden to the Thai Govt.
My country of Origin and many other countries do not " hand ou " free healthcare to foreigners..AND QUITE RIGHTLY

Ah..the B of E...another lying project fear pundit..led by the wonderful mark cairney..aka..a former rothchildd or goldman sachs jobsworth..no surprise there then is there??Except it came from the BoE monetary policy committee as an exact statement of proven historical fact since 2016.
It should be crystal to any reader that Brexit has adversely slowed down the growth of the UK economy, so to disregard that fact is demonstrating an ability not to accept anything adverse about Brexit.

Surprise..surprise..The EU.
Just like Theresa May set her red lines.
Except tge EU meant what they were saying.
If we had had s Brexiteer as PM..and he/she had sent diehard Brexiteers to brussels to wheel/deal on behalf of the UK taxpayers..it would have been a totally different scenario.
However..as very soon..terreeesa the appeeesa will be given her p45..all is NOT LOST from the Brexiteer point of view.

Any government deal has to be approved by parliament, and they would reject a no-deal like they have before. While Brexit could happen by accident, if the October leaving date occurs before any agreement, this is unlikely. More likely would be a GE with or without a Brexiteer PM.
As a GE would see Labour in power, I doubt any Tory Brexiteer would want to take up May's place - except for the pension benefits that arise from that post. A poisoned chalice awaits him or her.
Labour winning a GE..please let me know your home brew receipe.
You can imagine the " forces " against corbyn and co.
Also the press giving it.." ira lover..hamas lover..ex diane abbot lover..tax tax tax will be his slogan..open door immigration his policy..tons more pc nonsence etc etc.
The mighty Brexit Party would Run Amok.
Lastly..the UK Armed Forces would imho.." step in "...and .. well..work it out for yourself.
