  1. Chulasingh admits dropping Thaksin's charge

BANGKOK: -- Former attorney general Chulasingh Vasantasingh on Friday said he was responsible for the prosecution decision to drop terrorism charge against the former prime minister.

"I am responsible for not trying Thaksin Shinawatra," he said, testifying in a House subcommittee.

Chulasingh justified his decision by saying that Thaksin's involvement in the 2010 political mayhem happened outside Thailand.

The other reason was he believed even if Thaksin had not made the phone-in, protesters would still carry out their activities.

I love this. Not damned if you did, not damned if you didn't.

  2. DrT will be back in Thailand by this time next year. And a great day it will be too. Should make for record posts on Thai visa, and I for one can't wait to see him get off the plane. The first meeting with prem should be equally amusing .

Will you be at the airport to kiss his ring when he deplanes?

    Yes, his ringpiece.

  3. When I read some of the attempts at Thai on here I wonder if the Thais would even understand what was being said.

What makes me laugh even more, guys living here and having to rely on their wife to translate.

You want to have a look at some of the guys wandering around Bkk these days, no wonder the Thais laugh and poke fun, heck I do it myself having witnessed these drunken morons trying to hit on office girls on the BTS.

Likewise when I see some of the attempts at Thai, I wonder whether those foreigners really know what is being said by the shopkeepers/staff, and simply assume they are being bad mouthed or totally misinterpret the comments passed. I have lived here many years and I can recall only once being bad mouthed (that was by a bus conductor as I walked past a bus he was hanging out of and there was no doubt the comment was directed at me - I was walking alone). I really don't understand where these people go shopping.

  4. I would say that it depends on where you are registered according to your Blue Thabian Baan (blue book). But as you are living in Bangkok, there would be no harm in popping down to Special Branch to confirm this. They are quite friendly and helpful.

As Tamvine notes in the other thread, it would probably be much easier to do in Bangkok, but then it would depend on whether there is a blue book for you to enter here. You cannot transfer the blue book to another place as the book is tied to the building/home not the individual. As such, you would need to transfer to someone else's blue book in BKK, unless you own a condo here, in which case you could get a book for the condo and enter that one.

FYI not all owners of buildings can be bothered to record their tenants in their blue books. A problem I faced until I bought a home in my son's name.

Thanks Garry, the officers in my NR police station are very friendly, but I was the first case they handled in their jurisdiction when I applied for my Red book, it was really painful procedure, I drive them around myself for three consecutive days for the search of Red book approximately 800 km in my own car, just because they don't have one at the PS. but the good thing is, now the whole district office and the police station know me by my name and regard me as their own when ever I visit my home in NR.

I was just wondering if I apply from NR it may took ages to proceed the application.

It would all depend on how accustomed they are to the whole citizenship procedure, but it does not sound promising. I would think that Bangkok would be the better option but then you have the blue book thingy to sort out. Would the red book be an issue? I don't know.

I applied in Bangkok, but based on marriage, i.e. no PR, and the actual application procedure was not complicated, but the amount of documents and running around you need to do to get them is quite onerous. But then with your previous experience with your red book, it should be a walk in the park for you.

  5. Their country, their rules. If you don't like it you can always leave.

I think it is some what justified since most westerners don't pay taxes or otherwise contribute to the development of this country.

Got half way through page 2 and though we had a good chance of not seeing the "If you don't like it you can leave" reply, but sadly it wasn't to be.. the forum newbie had to flex his muscles!!!

    I'm impressed.

Yes, his sphincter muscles. I am amazed it took so long.

  8. So if I called him a liar, a defamation case against me would be thrown out, not only because it is the truth but also because it does not damage his reputation? Have I got that right.

Nothing he says in the future can be trusted - sort of fits the MP mold anyway - and so he should resign as the public can no longer have any faith in him or anything he says. By the same token, the members of the office of the Ombudsman should also resign for endorsing the right of an elected MP to lie.

I would just love a journalist to ask Kittiratt, when he next makes a public statement, whether he is lying this time too.

  9. I enjoy riding in Bangkok and have dones so few a few years now. I will probably cycle on down to Queen Sirikit Convention Center this weekend to the mobile phone expo. Get to where you want to go and get some exercise at the same time. However, like in most cities you need to be constantly aware of what is going on around you. Too much enjoying the view can end up with tears.

How don't you proposed to lock your bicycle when you are in the exhibition hall?

Sent from my LT18i using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

They now have dedicated bicycle parking, with a security guard close at hand.

You could not pay me enough money to ride a pedal bike in this country

Riding a bike in Thailand is like asking for a hospital stay or an early death

In rural areas fine and of cause good excercise. However in Bangkok i have to agree with LuckyLew who could quite easy change his name to UnluckyLew if he were to attempt mounting a bicycle in the Capital.

I think he'd get arrested if he tried to do that!!! Public indecency springs to mind.

  12. I bought mine at that little shop, now expanding, across Sukhumvit raod from Soi Udomsuk (Sukhumvit 103 BKK). There is also a Giant dealer in soi Udomsuk who may have what you are looking for. Most decent bike shops stock mirrors.
