  1. A friend is looking for a condo/apartment to rent between Sukhumvit 71-103. If possible he would prefer a studio type unit with small kitchen. Range - anything up to Baht 12,000. Does not not to be new but needs to be clean and relatively convenient i.e. it can be in a subsoi but there needs to be trasportation in and out such as motorbike taxi rank, as he does not have his own transport. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. His current rental contract ends in August (Sathorn - expensive) so he would like to find something quite soon.

PS I was shocked by the prices being charged for small studio units closer to the center of town. I assume that the prices on the websites in English are much higher than those on websites targeting Thais. I am so glad I am not in the rental game.

  2. Got a Thai female friend, 28, Master's Degree from Thammasat in Law, total knockout, and she put it quite blunt to me in perfect English when we were talking about this a few months back: "Between the fags and deadbeats who want me to support them and their bad habits, there's not much to choose from.". cheesy.gif

I have heard it said by a number of single females that at the top universities here the proportion of straight to gay males is about 60:40. As a result, the number of available males is quite low comparatively speaking (according to them).

Even in the company where I work I would say that proportion applies. A good 80 percent of the employees graduated from those same universities, so perhaps there is some truth in it.

I do not know what this means demographically, but in the middle-middle, upper middle class, and upwards, it really does seem that the availability of suitable single men is somewhat limited due to sexual orientation.

  3. @fab4

Just remember whos lapdog Tharit was, so who do you think he protects.

As for the NACC if your budget get slashed by 60% (presumably by a party that thinks corruption is ok) you can't take all the cases you want too. 60% slash of budget.. that is unheard of, you only do that when you want to cripple an organisation. Guess who did the slashing of the budget.

But whoever is behind the corruption get them I don't care much ANY corrupt official has to be caught no matter what political preference he or she has.

The cutting of budget cannot be used as an excuse for cherry-picking those cases the NACC wished to pursue.

As for Tharit, words escape me. Hireling, perhaps, or mercenary.

  4. In his first post GarryP said he did his extension for bring married and working, which made me assume he had the marriage extension, now he says he has the employment extension. Obviously, the requirements for these two very different extensions are very dissimilar, yet Garry seems to think his extension covers both situations and that he has to submit documents covering both types. Wouldn't it be simpler for him to go for the marriage extension?

He is getting the extension based upon marriage.

But since he is using his income from working to meet the 40k baht income requirement immigration wants a letter from his employer to confirm his employment.

He will also need his tax payment documents also along with a copy of hies work permit.

Absolutely correct ubonjoe. They also stamp my extensions as being based on "Thai wife". I have been extending my visa this way for more than 20 years and last year they hit me with the curve ball saying the format of the letter from my employer is no longer acceptable and they wanted me to use their new form.

It all seems a bit of overkill, what with having to submit a copy of work permit, personal income tax receipts and corporate income tax receipts of my employer, etc. but I am used to it.

There is actually an advantage to doing the extensions this way. If my extension was based on work, if I lost my job or retired, I would have 7 days within which to leave the country and go get another visa. However, by doing the extensions based on marriage, if I lose my job I can change the criteria to be based on money in the bank and not need to leave the country (if I am mistaken please let me know). I did change from money in the bank to income from work many years ago, so assume I can change it the other way.

  5. It may be something your local office made up. You should check with them about it.

I have never heard of or seen one.

It was Chaengwattana. The format of the letter I had previously used was not accepted. I had to follow the format of the "new style" letter. I discussed this with the officer and he was adamant that it was a new requirement from above. That was in late July 2013. I am going to do my 90 day report in a couple of weeks so will try to pick up a form then but was hoping someone would have a copy on hand.

  6. I recall last year when doing my annual extension based on being married to a Thai and working in Thailand, the original letter I submitted from my employer verifying my salary was not accepted, although it had been fine for many years. They had a new form of letter that they wanted me to use. Unfortunately, I am unable to find the copy I made. Could anyone out there post a copy of the current salary verification letter or a link. I am unable to find the form on the Immigration website and it does not appear to be in any of the pinned topics.

  7. They use price boards in LAOS. The prices on the boards are not regulated and most are exhorbant. Especially if they are quoting prices in English which means their special price is especially high. The NCPO should have a max price per kilometer and make it a standard for all commercial transit like tuk tuk and motor taxis

They do. Other than the destinations and prices marked on the board it clearly says that it is 5 Baht per km up to 5 kms. Anything over 5 kms is negotiable by the parties to the transaction. Obviously it is all in Thai language.

  8. "Request by ex-Premier Yingluck Shinawatra for eight more witnesses to defend her in the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) against alleged malfeasance and corruption involving the rice-pledging scheme was rejected.
    ........

The NACC has considered the request at its meeting on Thursday and disapproved it, citing concerns over the potential impact on the political conflict."

This is not a valid excuse for denying the testimony of witnesses. While her seeking to present additional witnesses may indeed be a delaying tactic (I have no way of knowing but believe it likely), you do not deny the request for political reasons. You deny the request due to already having interviewed witnesses on the same subject matter and the additional witnesses being viewed/determined to have no new evidence to add to the case.

By not hearing the additional witnesses or giving a valid reasons for not hearing them, you are not seen to be impartial and serving justice.

  9. My wife found this little fellow in the yard and put him up on the bushes to keep the ants from getting at him. My luck in getting these small guys up has been poor and hope he can make it. Our secretary is bringing in some bird food and seems to know what to do. Taken with LG G2 13 Mpixel camera.

A few days ago I rescued a baby starling. Feeding it on mealworms and Cerelac (fed through a syringe). The local vet suggested the Cerelac.

  10. I just wonder - not really - who benefits from the rice subsidies. Of the number of farmers I know, they are growing rice to feed their families and not selling rice to the millers. So at the bottom end of the scale, the farmers who really do need some assistance, are not benefiting. You then have the "middle" farmer who produces for the family and also for sale and then the larger scale farmer who is usually a large scale landowner who is producing vast amounts of rice. So who really benefits from the subsidies, the very people with the wherewithall to adopt better farming practices such that they can reduce costs and not need subisdies in the first place. They have no incentive to improve grain strains, techniques, etc. as long as they can get subsidies.

  11. There is a dog in the private soi where I live that goes absolutely crazy every time I (whether on foot, push bike or motorcycle), and one or three others pass its home. I have never done anything to upset the dog. The owners know it is nasty (it previously bit a child) so always keep the gate closed, however, one of these days they are going to forget to close the gate properly and it is going to attack me or one of the unlucky others that it has taken a dislike to (unfortunately a couple of those are little kids). The owners even went so far as to post notices in front of their house not to tease the dog, something I have never done.

I am a dog lover and have my own, but if that dog tries to attack me I will try to kill it. I could not care what the neighbours think but in fact I am sure a few would thank me for it. Everyone is scared of it.

  12. If you didn't penetrate her and the baby cannot possibly be yours then why even ask? This is a bar girl you are talking about? Since you think there are others it's safe to say she is a bit of a slag?

Of all the replies, yours is by far the least helpful - no surprises but was it even vaguely possible that you might have addressed the question re abortion ? Would you completely turn your back on a woman back in your own country if she told you she had nowhere else to turn to ? All I'm looking for here is some way to dig her out of the hole some lowlife has dug for her - you know and I know how few Farang in Thailand are serious about wearing a condom - branding her a slag helps no one,

I'm sorry your just another sad sack that needs to cry on a forum, man up like I said if it's not yours why you bothered. I don't need to read your pish about abortion because of the above.

Man you are a pretty heartless fellow. Haven't you ever heard of helping others? And why is she a slag for getting pregnant? You are making a lot of assumptions based on nothing.

To the OP, abortion is legal in certain instances and there are a number of legal clinics that provide such service. However, she will need to be able to prove why an abortion is necessary.

  13. If Scotland gets independence which it wont. The Scots will still have a British passport as it will take some time before there is a Scottish passport.

By then the Thai immigration rules will have changed again. Maybe for the better maybe for the worst. Probably the latter.

Sent from my GT-S5360 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

passports belong to the country. why would britain allow them to use one?

Yes, you are right, passports belong to the country, but if Scotland had to get independence, I would think it would take a lot of time for all Scottish UK passport holders to get a Scottish one, but I may be wrong.

    why would britain care?

Just think of all the refugees poring across the border as they head south for greener pastures. laugh.png

  14. Ubon is nowhere near as red as Sisaket. Could that be a reason?

FYI Ubol has its own army base in Warinchamrap.

You should have seen the gathering of red shirts at Thing See Miang Park. Ubon is even more red than Sisaket.-facepalm.gif

Doubtful that it is more red. Up until the last elections they even had a democrat in one district. The anti-government supporters also had a mass rally at Thung Sri Muang (Ubol city) earlier this year and they were not chased away by any angry red mobs. That rally would not be allowed to take place in a lot of the other North and North Eastern provinces.

  15. OP is absolutely spot on. I know my post count is meager and I would participate more except there are so many unmitigated pr!cks on here (mostly the old-timers) that jump all over anyone asking a legitimate question or making a valid observation. I don't need that aggravation in my life, so mostly I lurk on these forums. Too many people wear their post-count or years-in-country as some sort of battle medal which (to them) is evidence of some sort of vapid superiority. It would be funny if it weren't so nauseating. It's quite clear from reading their replies on this discussion that they have such little self-awareness that they no longer can see themselves for what they are.

I too do not understand those who seem to believe that years in Thailand or post count makes them some kind of authority on all things "Thailand". I have known people who have lived here for years who cannot put two Thai words together and others who have only been here a short time that are quite conversant in Thai, and yet others who have no intention of ever making an attempt to fit in.

On the other hand, I have no idea what Scottbkk is waffling on about even in English.

  16. I have said from the get go that highspeed trains are not needed in Thailand. Upgrading the rolling stock, dual and upgraded track are sufficient. It will increase the speed of train travel considerably, without needing to go over the top with a Thai Shinkansen or SNCF-TVG equivalent. The very people the trains serve couldn't afford to pay the fares for a highspeed train ticket anyway unless highly subsidized, which would put the SRT and government even further into debt.

    No off budget funding required.
