Well my thai wife is pretty objective to all that is happening right now. She reads the thai news and commented to me the other day about missing rice. As she explaind it, some time ago there was an audit of the rice stockpiled. It seems that 1% of the gross had mysteriously gone missing.

My question is: With all the rice going bad, and missing rice, how could the Gov even get all the money needed to pay the farmers even with a valid contract for sales to another country?

This rice scheme seems to me more like a farce where as the Gov never intended it to work and only made this rice scheme to appease the voting farmers in the north. To insure the PTP stays in control.

If you look back a few days ago there was a report in here that 8 out of 9 payments were made to the northern disricts for their rice. So why would they be complaining when the PM takes care of them first. I would say the South has good reason to be angry

From the way my thai wife best describes the armys' policies! The army is not here for the government to order around like a policeman. Their sole purpose is to protect thai people from harm wether that harm is from inside or outside of thailand. This includes protecting them from harm caused by a corrupted government. They don't care about politics except when it is causing the thai people to harm each other. Hence the statement they made a few days ago that the pm and democratically voted for government will be held responsible if there is blood shed during this protest. Their main job is protecting thai people! Not thai democracy.

What most thai and some farang dont seem to be thinking about are the simple facts that if so many thai are in the streets protesting and roads are blocked then who will be driving the delivery vehicles for foods, produce, and water and if someone is driving them then how will they get through the blockades and protesters to make their deliveries???

As a foreigner here with a new baby and a teacher for many years I have concluded that homeschooling is the only way my kid will be taught. Thai education is not about learning. It is about money.

With thai teachers withholding information in lieu of tutoring fees that thai students need to truly comprehend what they are taught this number is surprisingly low. That and the fact that thai students are not taught to think, evaluate, or surmise will keep the thais education level at a low level!

The rallies and attempted shutdown will not cause any damage to the government since the government wont be working from these offices on monday! They will be prepared and doing business from other places outside the protest zone. They are not foola to just sit there and wait for people to kick their doors. Only bloodshed will make things happen like forcing the army to intervene!

Excuse me for being a stupid farang but, I don't understand how 308 MP can be guilty for agreeing to vote for something that is unconstitutional. When all Phue Thai MP's including the PM voted for that Amnesty Bill. So does that mean the others including the PM only broke the law a little by voting once or twice and the 308 broke the law for voting this bill every time? Or is this just a way to keep the PM and a few top echelons from being seen in a more negative spotlight to diffuse any more animosity against her before Jan. 13?

Ok! First you should not have paid a dowry for an engagement or given gold to the family. Traditionally the dowry is only paid at the time of the wedding. You were not married unless the family put the string on your heads binding you together and before this the monks should have been involved and placing strings around you. So surely this was not a marriage but simply a promise and intent to marry.

If the family is well off then you would receive the dowry back after the wedding. It is mainly used now only as a symbol to show you are able to provide for the family you will make with this woman. However, in the North of Thailand the families still ask for a lot of dowry and will keep all of it.

Since you have been formerly introduced as her soon to be husband and have been accepted then it should also be accepted that you both can sleep and sex together. I know some Thai families who have done this formal engagement in Chiang Mai to make it acceptable to have the couple sleeping together prior to a wedding. Especially since they can see you are well off and willing to pay money ignorantly and blindly upon their request.

Some replies have stated about losing personal time together as being normal. It is only normal if you accept this and are happy. If the woman truly loves you then she will make time to be alone with you. This time alone will be accepted by the family since you have been formerly engaged.

You asked for straight answer.. It seems to me that maybe she cares for you but is taking advantage of your money as well.

I recently married a Thai woman and although I paid a healthy dowry I got it all back under my bed on the wedding day. Thai culture says you can buy her engagement ring but Dowry is for marriage ONLY. If you do plan to marry her you should have family show the money and gold you already give. My wife is adding her knowledge of Thai tradition to this reply as well.

My wife states the obvious. You don't really know a person until you are with them for a long time. Online chats and skype calls are easily faked. Thais are famous for not showing bad to other people. Saving face, This is their culture. You should look hard about your future with this woman. If she is taking advantage of your ignorance to Thai culture now, imagine how much more she will take advantage if you are her husband.

Do yourself a favor and google Thai cultures for marriage. Ignorance might be Bliss but it is still ignorance.
