Tax Break Bonanza: Thais to Benefit from New Foreign Income Rule
I think so too. This government are so behind the eight ball now, this is probably way down their political list of things to table, never mind try to pass all readings of a new bill or even pass an amendment. Unfortunately, it means (legally) all inward remittances to ourselves would be taxable in 2025. I just plan to stay quiet - no tax number no actions on my part.

Israel slaughters 5 more journalists
No. It appears you believe what the IDF tells you. They are getting ready to finish bulldozing Gaza and killing everyone they come across - especially journalists - this is clear to all but you Israeli flag wavers. Since the Zionist terrorist government haven't allowed any foreign reporters into Gaza, the local ones working for international media (like these guys) are the first to target... then there are no witnesses. Israeli's thuggish leaders have become emboldened - a bit like the US administration - the more they get away with, the more they will push their agenda forward (the extinction of Palestinians). Big shout out to Australia, Canada, UK, France and the others for finally recognizing a Palestinian State - but now the IDF will be doubly-determined to exterminate everyone they come across. It's time to ban all Israeli passport holders from entry into all countries and boycott everything that comes out of there. That sounds heavy-handed, but all Israelis must now be held accountable - regardless of their political beliefs.

Which part of 'they were targeted' and the IDF admitted it, don't you understand?

TM30 password nonsense
Thanks. As you said to another poster, if my existing password already meets the above requirements, I should be able to just close the pop-up and login as normal, is that right? Or does something still need to be validated via the (owner's) email address?

TM30 password nonsense
Does it send the new password to the email address on file? I do it myself, but the user name is my landlord's email address.. so if it goes to the landlord that's a pain.

Bangkok Crowned Asia’s Most Popular City for 2025
If you try to look at it objectively, from a tourist's perspective, I can see Bangkok easily in the top 3 (at least) of all Asian cities, and I've been to most of the big Asian cities. While it's more expensive than it used to be, Bangkok is still a very cool place. The shopping centres, the skytrain, the MRT, the river taxis, it's easy to get around. The temples/wats are good and relatively easy to get there. The food is great and has every type of cuisine (including Japanese, Korean, Western). Young people like the nightlife. The accommodation is good, particularly at the higher end (something that the latter, in many cities, would be highly unaffordable). So while this might be a fake, it is a believable fake in my view. Which cities would rival it? Tokyo? Kyoto, Osaka? Good places, good food, some great sites. But poor English-language skills and lack of bilingual signage (almost everywhere) is a hindrance/annoyance. Hanoi or HCMC? Again, Vietnam as a country is great - but neither city has what Bangkok offers (HCMC is closest I guess). Singapore is expensive and to be honest not really much to see there. Sentosa theme park. Yawn. Seoul? Nope. Again English is a big issue there. Shanghai would be in my top 3. Hong Kong is ok for a couple of days.

Hospital checking visa
..or just to get a new one as it approaches expiry. It's almost illogical what they expect for someone living overseas. BTW, HM passport office has moved - still VfS - but is now at the Belle Tower, upstairs (behind Central Rama 9 shopping centre). I think it's also Canada and Australia, but not positive. UK visa office has moved there too now (maybe for the other two as well)..

Hospital checking visa
Regarding hospitals, yes, I had to let them check mine for a visa but only during an admittance once. Otherwise, as I regularly go there for routine things, they already had a copy of the bio page. So I guess when admitting, they want to check the visa or stamp to ensure you are not in overstay, which might cause them some problems - maybe a fine, etc. Not really different from a hotel. You are 'staying' at the hospital. Makes sense I guess.

Hospital checking visa
Big C wants to check my passport in order to use my Big C points for cash discounts at check out 🤣 because the BOT never knows who's using supermarket loyalty points to launder money 😄 For a while they also had signs at the cashiers saying all foreigners would need to show their passports if paying more than 5,000 baht by credit card. Why only credit cards? Why 5,000 THB? Why only foreigners, and not Thais? Who knows. It's endless.

Paetongtarn Stays Firm: No Resignation Ahead of Ruling
I'd like to think you're right, but I don't think so. Also there was no 'moral authority' that backed either of the last two coups. They overthrew two popularly elected majority governments at the urging of the minority establishment classes. They blamed 'chaos' but the chaos was caused by the establishment's mobs and the authorities didn't lift a finger to stop them - a complete opposite to how they treated the Red Shirt protests in central Bangkok - nearly 100 dead, mostly unarmed civilians. No moral authority whatsoever.

Paetongtarn Stays Firm: No Resignation Ahead of Ruling
The only real hope is that an election is forced (I don't know how) - beause that's the only chance the people have to elect a majority progressive government (e.g. currently called People's Party, formerly Move Forward). I'm sceptical though that an election won't be called soon, and even if it was the usual suspects would have it disbanded for some illogical reason as usual. In any case, that latter group would probably prefer a coup - and this ditz is playing right into their hands for that to happen by not calling an election.

While Trump fails, Carney outsmarts him once again
I'll take your word that Canada has 18 refineries. Now let's compare populations and car owners. We all know Americans are in love with their cars, don't like public transit (or walking ) so that's an indicator of the thirst for refined fuel. Regarding population, the United States has more than 8 times the population of Canada. So per capita - 18 refiners times 8 is 144. You in the US need to build 12 more - get to work. School's out.

Why manufacturing won't return to the U.S. - former CEO Motorola
It's not coprorate income tax. The tariffs on imported goods will drive up the price for the consumer. The importing US company might absorb some of it and the foreign exporters will try to find a way to reduce costs marginally, but ultimately it is the US consumer that will take the hit. That will eventually fuel inflation. This is all Economics 101.

Exactly. Also, you read the article. It's clear from some of the comments that others have not.

While Trump fails, Carney outsmarts him once again
That's true. But you could say the same thing about virtually all G7 countries. The United States sold weapons to its allies on credit to help them fight Nazi Germany - and it sat out the first 2 years of that war, thus not expending any money itself. After the war, it used a lot of that credit/debt to rebuild Japan, Europe and the UK. It did so to build societies that would follow its lead as capitalist democracies that it could eventually trade with - in other words self-interest to create stable, flourishing partners. The G7 is an indirect result of those actions.

Why manufacturing won't return to the U.S. - former CEO Motorola
U.S. manufacturer Motorola tried 'Made in USA' some years back with one of its cell phones. But a year after opening a factory in Texas, making 100,000 phones a week, the company realized it was unsustainable and shut it down. CNN report, picked up by other agencies: https://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/tried-building-smartphones-us-over-080042927.html Former CEO of Motorola explains why.

While Trump fails, Carney outsmarts him once again
Canada's MAGA-version in Alberta have always been spouting off about perceived unfair treatment from Ottawa. It goes back decades. There's some justification, but the loudmouths don't speak for the majority, who would be crazy to leave a G7 country like Canada. Same goes (even more so) for Saskatchewan. Regarding oil refineries, it's not a big deal to build a few extra refineries if necessary, so it is rather simple, actually. Canada has energy that the United States needs. The U.S. needs more fresh water too, but Canada has steadfastly, through the decades, refused the idea of freshwater pipelines or shipments of water to the western United States. Sidelining the United States was a good idea (with Mexico), but Mexico is a hesitant partner thus far.

Tax Break Bonanza: Thais to Benefit from New Foreign Income Rule
Just pointing out - you probably know - that the UK pension income not taxed in Thailand relates to State Pension and civil service pension 'only'. Not some other income one might be getting from an occupational non-governmental pension, or other income that wasn't taxed in the UK (if not a resident for tax purposes). The latter would be taxed in Thailand - if you brought it in. But the bureaucrat in the article suggests a tax holiday being planned for foreign remittances. Still no Minister commenting on this. The big concern many have is if Thailand tries to tax non-Thai residents on their 'global income' regardless of whether it's remitted to Thailand.

RFK Jr Scraps $500 Million mRNA Vaccine Program
They are and will continue to do so. The reason public funding is needed for research is for the good of the pepole in the country. University researchers and government researchers - those NOT funded by private sector - are looking for cures. They are not searching for new drugs or vaccines to keep the illneses moving along, albeit a bit slower via new expensive interventions. You really think the private sector is funding research to find a cure for cancer or terminal childhood diseases? Nope, they're just looking for newer and more expensive treatments that they can market and profit from.

Tax Break Bonanza: Thais to Benefit from New Foreign Income Rule
What if it's not taxed at source (e.g. occupational pension source is from another country) and not taxed in your home country (because it wasn't earned there)? Then is it taxable in Thailand (if they move to global income instead of - or in addition to - remittances)? I guess so?
