I don't believe your name is 'astral'??? Which is who my reply was for. Nevertheless how would you deifne Major??? As you did state 'ANY' major case, I think you should go back to the go-go's of pat pong for you info. QC's don't represent ANY major case, they only represent the ELITE of cases. For example, Rape, Armed Robbery, multi-million pound Class 'A' drug importation, and major complex fraud cases etc, etc, are all considered MAJOR, but none of these would warrant, or indeed be granted the services of a QC.

FYI the UK has 3 levels of Lawyer, you got the first two right, but you forgot the highest level = QC (Queens Council), these people are at the highest level of law in the UK. They represent only big cases i.e. Murder. The salarys for these guys starts at around £200,000 per year. Its what most level 2 lawyers (Barristers) strive to become, as they call it 'gaining their silks', when they get to the level of QC.

For the amount of containers full of drugs that leave Thailand, surely it must be pretty easy to import a car!!! Thai Customs are notoriously corrupt, well the majority anyway. So surely a blind eye can be turned against a car coming in???

A friend of mine wants to know how rigorous the checks are made against the imported car, as he has a rather tasty 'ringer' (stolen high value car) he wants to import, and has all the fake documents to go with it. Can anyone advise???

Surely again customs can be paid off here???

Didn't realise this thread would open up such a can of worms. Well 200 posts, and nearly 3000 views. Reading through all the posts, there still seems to be alot of slagging of farang girls. Well at least my question has been answered. As for using the linekers link, well I thought it was more than adequate. Since I have been coming to this site, which is longer than nearly all of you (look at my member No.), there is one subject when mentioned, brings with it a barrage of abuse. 'Farang Girls'. Why is it most posters here are totally against them, and most people seem to slag them off. I imagine the ones who continually slag them are the ones who could never make it with them.

I live in the UK now (the amazing city of Liverpool), and this country couldn't be better. We have the strongest currency in the world, and have done for yrs, the worlds No.1 financial institution, it's SAFE here, and civilized.

We also have the worlds best education system (just look at how many of the worlds dignitarys send their kids to Oxford uni).

Personally I spend a few months every year in Thailand and other countrys, but there really is no place like home, the money here is fantastic, and the lifestyle is great.

Obviously the people who think otherwise are the sad losers who have nothing to go back to. There's so much money to be made here with the property boom, many ppl now have 2 mortgages on 2 propertys before they are 30, with the other one being a 'buy to let'. Buy the time they reach 50 they will be laughing all the way to the bank, and a nice early retirement to boot. Pity so many people have had to run off to Thailand and shack up with a '2 bob hookers' coz they can't make it with an English girl. I see so many of these sad w**kers in Thailand it makes me laugh.

Don't slag your own country off people, or your country will end up hating you and not wanting you back.

Pre-nups are NOT recognised in any UK Court. Weather your wife be a foreign national or British, no court in the UK will accept a pre-nup. She will get half of everything!

But if you are this concerned over pre nups at such an early stage, then I think you are definatley not ready to marry this girl yet.

No need to complain about the British Embassy, or download 83 pages of drivel, as a good friend of mine who worked for the British embassy told me that the embassy regulary monitors this and other ex-pat websites, especially when it contains items about themselves, so they will most probably see your complaint and hopefully act upon it, making the service much better.

well I suggest he goes to RCA, and Koh San Rd for his nights out, also during the day he could go to dreamworld, siam water park in minburi, river cruise, take him to ratchadam or lumpini boxing stadium for a night out too, he will like that, also he could go to MBK, and the cinemas and some arcades or video game shops. You live in bkk so surely you must know places. if in doubt go to the tourist info.

Well thats what happens when you go messing around with prostitutes. And going with prostitutes in Thailand is 'illegal'!!! So your brother deserved everything he got. Hopefully he will have learned his lesson now, and wont be turned into a future sex tourist. I have been to Thailand many times, and also been to other countrys. And I really do think this post is <deleted>. Firstly alot of the murders in Siam are drug related, considering 70% of the heroin from the golden triangle is smuggled through Siam, it's not suprising. Most drug producing countrys, or countrys next to them where the drugs are being shipped out have very high murder rates. I.E. Colombia & Brazil, to name two.

On my travels to Thailand, the only problems I have seen people having is when they drink too much, or take libertys with the locals, or get involved with the hookers and try to mess them around. The Thais have a very high tolerance to farangs. I mean how long would a Thai man last in the UK if he took libertys with the locals, or what would the pimps in Kings cross (notorious area of London) do to a Thai who upset one of their girls??? I guess that answers this post. Thailand I have found very safe, even walked round the back streets of some very dodgy looking soi's @ 3:00 AM wearing over £2000 in jewellery, and even seen groups of Thai men sitting round. At first i was nervous and thought "oh <deleted>", but they didn't even bat an eye-lid. And I know for sure if it was the back streets of London at that time of night I wouldn't have lasted 2 mins.

So Thailand is a very safe country from what I have experienced.

Simple.................if a guy is stupid enough to buy a hooker a honda motorbike, or send money to her on a regular basis within 2 weeks of meeting her, or even pay an outrageous 'sin-sod' to a bar girl...................... Well, I think that answers your question!!!

I gotta hand it to this Walter though, what an amazing feat earning £80,000 (5,953,748 baht, at the current exchange rate) for a few weeks work. That would take the average Thai '70 years' to earn that (providing the average wage is 7000 per month), or the average ex-pat 16 yrs (providing his monthly wage is 30,000). So I take my hat off to this Walter character, and you guys ask why these people move to LOS!?!?

I asked my friend this at the time, and he said its for their benefit (the British guys benefit, not the girls) that they refuse visas for these girls, also the fact that most of them lie on their visa application forms, as they don't realise the Embassy have the powers to check any records they like. Also quite a few of these girls (hookers) have criminal records in Thailand, so are definatley not the type of people we want going to the UK. As my friend put it, most the hookers/ex-hookers or bar girls or freelancers in your eyes!!! Once most of them have obtained their British citizenship and passport, they just dissapear from their husbands, and bring their family members and in many cases their Thai husbands over. Also many of these girls run away from their husbands within a couple of months of arriving in the UK, but this tends to happen in the relationships where there is a 30 yr plus age gap between the two, and 9 times out of 10 the girl is found living with another guy. The embassy staff do a very hard job, that is largely unappreciated. And nearly every other applicant is a 'hooker', which really makes for an infuriating day. By the way hookers (bg's, freelancers, part time bg's, go-go girls) are not allowed Visas to go to the UK, and lying on the application nearly always gets found out, according to my friend.

Its absolutley true what he says about most farangs in UK and Thailand who have married Thai girls have infact married bar girls, or lets just call them what they are 'hookers', infact a very good friend of mine worked for the British Embassy in bkk for 3 yrs, and told me everything. He told me that infact about 85% of all Thai girls that have married British men are infact hookers, or ex-hookers, hence the reason the Embassys are reluctant to give them visa's.

So all of these people here who are shouting that they have married straight girls infact have most probably married bar girls, and don't want there ego dented by admitting they have married a hooker. Also these people who boast of their wive's 'university degree, ex graduate' status. Well there are 1000's of university students in Thailand who get buy on their degree courses by 'free-lancing'. Free lancers are hookers too you know, just many people don't seem to realise that fact. My friend at the embassy also told me that the British Embassy and other Embassys regulary monitor this and other ex=pat web boards!!!

What about the British spongers/fraudsters......

I live here in the UK, in the city of Liverpool, and have lived in many places in the UK. Everybody here is on about the immigrant spongers, well belive you me for every immigrant claiming multiple benefits and frauding the system, there must be at least 10 English ppl doing the same. I know personally of 2 people who live out in Thailand and are living there on 'dissability living allowence', they get about £180 per week (about 11,500 baht per week!!!), thats paid directly into their bank accounts, and they withdraw it from the ATM's in Thailand, oh by the way these two guys are British born and bred. They are claiming dissability and there is absolutley nothing wrong with them, they are just working the system to their benefit. And not only are they claiming that beneift but they are also claiming housing benefit for property's that they dont stay in!!! A dodgy landlord splits the rent cheque with them which is £400 per month, after the cheque is split, that leaves another £50 per week that they get on top of the £180 per week (which totals about 14,750 baht per week!!!) Also know of expats who are on the sick, living abroad, again the money being paid into bank accounts, so it can be withdrawn from anywhere on the planet.

Also somebody mentioned Fraud, oh like its only the immigrants who are doing fraud in the UK. 90% of it is committed by Brits themselves. So before slagging off every immigrant maybe you should look at your own people!!!

And what was it somebody said about white Brits finding it impossible to get multiple identitys??? u must be joking, obviously you've never heard of identity theft (the UK's fastest growing crime industry), and forgeries!!! Again its mostly the white British criminals behind it, who actually supply the immigrants!!!

Well now the Liverpool board have offically accepted Thaksins offer, and some members of the Thai govt are flying to Liverpool with the money. And it looks like he did use public money after-all. I really can't belive Thaksin has done this with the Thai people's money and all the tax-paying expats money too, so how do you guys all feel now???

Not only that but I have been to Thailand quite a few times and spend a few months there every year, and one thing I know about the Thaksin government is that they don't like 'farangs' very much, infact many would say that they are 'anti-farang'!!! So why on earth would they want to invset so much money in a farang business, and a business of a football club which probably (moraly speaking) has the baggage (fans, and some idiot hooligans) of the very kind they hate to see in their own soceity? Im quite confused behind Thaksins thinking on this one folks!!!

Of all the businesses in the World and Asia, and in Thailand, why oh why does he want to start meddling with our citys fine football team. Looks like he will get his deal, because for some amazing reason the Liverpool board have just rejected Steve Morgans offer, even though he was born and bred in Liverpool, and has been a fan since he was a kid.

I just hope Thaksin can do the right thing by the people of Liverpool if he gets the deal, we will just have to wait and see.

Since I am living in Liverpool at the moment, and am also a big fan of Liverpool FC, Im wondering what the views are of the people in Thailand about the Thai PM wanting to buy a 30% £70 million share in Liverpool FC???

Here in Liverpool a recent poll suggests that only 13% of the people in Liverpool are happy for him to get the shares, the other 87% want Steve Morgan the Liverpool Business man to get the shares, his current offer is £73 million.

There is a way round it...........

Only one that I know of, what you would need to do is go to a country like Belize, or some other tax haven outside the E.U.

Then set up an off shore company and open an off shore bank account in that country.

Then you sell all your assets to that off shore company (i.e sell them for a pound, so you are selling them to yourself), and that way no wife will be able to touch your assets. Not one penny of them. You would also need to transfer all your savings to an off shore account.

With regards to your Thai wife, she WOULD be entitled to HALF your assets if you didnt take the route I have advised.

They are themselves victims, victims of the severly harsh British legal system. Many are in for Serious drug offences, conspiracy charges (i.e victimless crimes), and most the murderes are in for committing murders against other criminals, and then others are there because they had to protect family and friends, not all prisoners are scum like u assume, many are decent nice people.

Going back to the original OP, those guys deserve a break @ HMP Whitemoor. HMP Whitemoor is a Category 'A' maximum security Prison, and those guys are all serving sentences of 20 yrs and upwards. So sure they deserve a little break now and then, would you like to be banged up inside whitemoor??? thought not!

As for avoiding them going to meetups, this will only make things worse. What are you really gonna do, lock her in the house. Imagine if you lived in a foreign country and were told you couldn't go to meet your own countrymen/women for a social event. If you are that insecure, and are worried about them getting ideas, or that they will run off with somebody richer than you, then you obviously have married the wrong girl, and maybe you should consider packing her bags, sending her home, and filing for divorce. This also aplies if her attitude changes for the worse, you gotta get rid.

But if your intelligent enough you should spot these signs before you marry. Its a sad fact that most (65% according to the British embassy in bkk) Thai girls return to Thailand after just 3-6 months in the UK, as they have had enough of it, especially if they are an ex-bargirl or hooker. I totally agree with the guy who said about the sucsessful marriages are the ones where the girl is educated to degree standard, and never worked in the sex industry. These are the ones ,from the people I know in the UK, where the marriage is still going strong after many years.
