  1. Hello,

Neither myself nor my child are Thai nationals. Nor other parent who does not live in Thailand. We're currently on tourist visas, have to be back to our home country soon and will apply for a student visa for my child. (I understand you can apply for a student visa while you're in Thailand but we have to be home on other matters anyway.) My child starts university here later in the year. There are personal issues for my being in Bangkok with my child. (I did a search on Guardian Visa on the forum but posts are several years old.)

Is there any way around the 500,000 THB in the bank?

    1. Such as living in property in Bangkok legally owned by grandparents of my child/my parents (non-Thais)?

    2. Proof of monthly income in a UK bank of over 40,000 THB?

Advice appreciated from anyone who's been through the visa process recently. Thank you in advance.

  2. I'm currently on a tourist visa. I tried Kasikorn in Sukhumvit soi 11 and Exchange Tower (junction of Asoke and Ratchadaphisek Roads) yesterday (28 March 2014). No luck. Was told you need a work permit.

Bangkok Bank in Sukhumvit 11 will accept a tourist visa, passport and international driving licence showing your home address, but you will need to pay an apparently one-time one-year health insurance of around 1,300THB to enable iBanking. That particular officer was pleasant, sweet, but others at that same branch didn't seem to know the procedure. Personally, I don't see the relationship between the two - banking and insurance - does anyone? Or just another instance of fabled Thai "logic"?

  3. I have to do a visa run in early March. Apologies if this has been asked before. I did a quick search and couldn't find an answer.

I was quoted 12,600 THB by Bangkok Buddy for a 4+1 day tour of Angkor Wat and Prasat Thom (about 100km from Angkor).

I'm at an age where I don't really fancy an arduous road trip. Is there a visa run agency that will arrange flights instead?

    Thank you in advance.

  4. I am new to Bangkok.

I went to see two Muay Thai schools in Sukhumvit for my daughter who is in her teens: Chacrit/Chakrit in soi 39 and Krudam in soi 24. She is Taekwondo 1st dan black belt but I was never keen on the bouting aspect of it. Still, she has a lot of energy that has to be channelled constructively. I'm also more interested in the fitness aspect of it for her, not competition.

I'm leaning towards Chacrit but I'm not 100% on it. If any one has taken classes there and could recommend a specific teacher please I would be most grateful. Because of women-specific concerns!

  5. We got to Major Hollywood Suksawat today in the late morning. It was 85 THB for the cab ride from Wongwian Yai BTS. I had the name and address written in Thai for the cabbie. Even when my tones are pitch perfect since I've started to read Thai, sometimes the fact that I don't look really Thai throws off Thais.

There was no queue for tourist visa extensions. Though it took nearly an hour in all. It's my first time so had been psyched for it taking much longer.

Make sure you also have a photocopy of the entry STAMP as well, not just the T6 immigration white slip. Should have thought of that as bureaucracies the world over love their inconsequential bits of paper. Photocopying wasn't an issue.
