  1. Hi everyone, well after reading all of what been said on the topic, I called TRUE. Seems like they are going to offering ADSL sometime starting next month. Ie in August 2005, and the lines should be provided by TT&T. So for those of you who have existing phone lines with TOT, this might not work. Right now they do offer Cable services which we were talking about.

Appox prices for ADSL would be in the range of what they are currently charging for Cable at 512k. The coverage area for ADSL shall extend to greater CM and not restricted to just the moat area.

  2. Limbo, very nice analysis on architecture of Thailand. Very well put and great analysis.

And I agree with meadish sweetball, the more south you go, the better the selection. Just don't get too south, a lot of houses being bombed there.

  3. Thanks for all your stories and suggestions.  I'll have to check out the book at Raintree and we're now thinking of "shopping around" for doctors just to see what is available.  MANY have suggested Dr. Udom but your story above makes us a bit hestitant now.  Going back to Canada is still an option and we realize that it will cost us a fair coin to do so.  However; it's our first child and we're both being extra-cautious about safety.  If any of you can compare the standard of care between here and Canada during deliveries, I'd love to hear your opinions.  Thanks again.

Dr. Catareeya is in our opinion the best O&G doc out there. Chiangmai Ram, 2 night stay for a natural and 3 night stay for a c-section is really not expensive considering the service and professionalism put in. We have had two kids there already. Our second kid could not be delivered by Dr. Catareeya cause she was herself pregnant and delivered around the same time but I believe she is back now. CM is probably the best place to give birth considering the low cost as compared to bangkok or other cities around the world. But you don't have to take my word for it. An appointment would not not harm.

    all the best!

  4. had a great meal yesterday - again - at Buonissimo on the road to Chiang Rai, with owner Sergio. they also do some italian fare in their little supermarket. pity the place is divided in several stages, outside, downstairs, upsatirs, private room and diners are all over the place. food good though. wine cellar is impressive. had a meal with my wife, one starter, 2 mains and 2 small heineken for 550 baht. good deal. ask for billy, great waiter!

Buonisimo is I think the best all around Italian food next to Giorgios next to piccollo Roma next to Rimping italian place.

I Tried the new Dukes which is the old Tavern Great looking Menu but food didnt quite keep up with the expectation any else try it?

Can anyone help explain exactly where Buonisimo is? its 200 ++ kms between Cm and CR. help help.

  5. Ive always wondered why the design of houses here lack so much design, is it due to the construction costs or simply due to lack of carpentary skills that they have here? My opinions  are based on going to a few housing delvelopment areas, dont ask me to name them, but they look all the same, two storey, white concrete, with ceramic tile roofs and lined up so close to each other, some look really terrible- the ones that are tall and slim. Are there any new modern houses that use wooden framing and more use of glass? And is there anywhere close to town where you can design and build? On the positive ,Ive seen ones in Chiang Mai Land and some look good.  Your toughts welcome

    Hi donnyboy,

you probably need to get a little more specific about what kind of houses you are referring to. There are many different kinds such as the linked ones which I think you are referring to, and "single houses", either single or double stories.

I reckon that you probably can get anything you want in ChiangMai as long as your budget "$$$" supports it. But for starters, lets be specific about what kinds of houses you are talking about..

  6. Can anyone tell me which airlines fly Bangkok to Lampang??

If I am not mistaken, Bangkok Airways is the only one. But its not awfully a long drive from Chiang Mai to Lampang. About 40 minutes up and down some nice mountain sceneries.
