  1. It isn't a small percentage, it's 95% of all Thai girls foreigners are able to meet.

Among the foreigners I know with Thai girls, 100%, despite 75% claiming they aren't.

Good luck with the 'loyal and caring'

Not sure about them being 'the best quality' but they are certainly easy and cheap.

You surely have a lopsided opinion BriittMan.It may be 95% of the Thai women you meet, but it is not 95% of all Thai women. Again, 100% of the foreigners you know may indeed be involved with bar girls. That in itself is a shame; for your life must revolve around bars, bar girls, and foreigners who go with bar girls.

Your statement about, the only types of Thai women foreigners can meet are bar girls; is no doubt self-incriminating.

I am a foreigner and certainly no angel. Since 1967, I have spent my fair share of time in the bars of SEA--some say far too much time. However, the bars are not my entire life. My wife is not Thai, so I know many Thai women who are her friends. I am a professional expat who has worked in industry with Thai women who are not bar girls; my son's former Thai girlfriend and his Thai wife are not a bar girls; I know many of the wives of my Thai and foreign friends who are not bar girls, I know several Thai female teachers and nurses who are not bar girls, I have Thai neighbor ladies who are not bar girls, and I know several Thai female travel agents, hotel and bank workers, and shop owners who are not bar girls.

Nevertheless, I do know several bar girls and I have several foreign friends who have Thai wives/gfs who are bar girls. Consequently, I am not denying there are plenty of Thai bar girls. However, the majority of Thai women are NOT bar girls.

This is to all the replies that Thai prostitutes are working in bars.

What about the escort services available, what about the girls that do their day jobs and

then go off and work in a Thai nightclub for men or a Japanese only club?

I even know of nurse's at Bumrungrad International Hospital that do their normal hours

of work and then go off to the fancy clubs at night looking for extra money.

Around university areas is another good place to pick up girls that are

    out for play for pay.

Love it when some of these replies say they have a university gal!

Meet a lot of them from Univ of Patpong, Univ of Nana Plaza, and Univ of Soi Cowboy.

No matter how long you are married to a Thai girl, most of them you will never know their complete background.

And then we have the comments about the "nice girls" back home in Australia,

    GB, and USA.

Around the universities they are giving away sex like it was candy!

Also the ones that are putting themselves through college working on their backs.

I should marry a Thai girl and then I would not have to pay for sex! Hahahaha

  2. Security. Yes, financial security, but equally important, emotional security.

Someone who makes their life more fulfilling, more fun.

I've never known a Thai woman that wanted to discuss emotions all that much. Not hers, and definitely not mine. In fact, most of em don't talk about anything interesting at all. Seems like fun and entertainment is more along the lines of what they're looking for.

Eldragon, you are making me laugh to hard!!

I agree with you whole heartedly!

  3. Good luck with that potential money pit.

It's generally about security not love. Some repeat tourists and expats never seem to understand that or don't want to believe it and are in denial. Have you asked her if she is married, has a Thai boyfriend or several cell phones? Has the mom been sick yet and she needs to leave for a week? smile.png

That one will probably come after "go temple" or "go visit brother" ;)

No need to ask if they have a boyfriend or are married.

If they are not a lesbian then 99 percent have a boyfriend or husband.

  4. If you are stupid enough to believe they are interested in YOU, then I would say you have a big problem with reality. ALL Thai women have only interest in how much $$ they can extract from you for their family and theirselves. Period.

There is no exception. If they see financial benefit to having a relationship with you, they will pursue it aggressively.

If you operate in Thailand under the assumption you are the one special case this does not apply, you are a fool.

    Agee with you 100 percent!!

Could not have said it better!

  5. During the Vietnam War I used to hear 'Cheap Charlie' all the time there.

Just in the past year I am hearing it more and more here

    in Bangkok.

Foreigners bring their habits and customs over here and expect to do

    the same.

Thais do not tip so why do I have to?

Sure if someone goes out of their way to do something special for me

    I will reward them.

Now the new thing in the past few years is that a lot of businesses are

adding a 10 percent service charge (tip) to your bill.

  6. Those of us who have been in Thailand for any length of time know that the time

    agreed upon is the time they leave their apartment;

not the time they arrive at your hotel or restaurant.

One hour and 40 minutes she is out with another customer most likely.

She is just putting you off by texting a message.

    Been there and done that.

When she arrived I questioned her about another customer and you get this 'sheepish look'

    like how do you know?!

Then I just send them on their way with no dinner and no money!

( Forget the dinner anyway, they only want the money! )

  7. OMG.... This is as bad as the drinkers complaining about

The price of can of beer. Just fill up the car, drink the beer

And stop complaining. This must be the cheapest place

In the world to live, and live well!!

    Right on Sunshine!

They have $2000-5000 to buy a diesel vehicles over a gas and then complain

if they have to pay a baht more for the fuel.

    Go figure.

  8. Just got my Thai drivers license yesterday near Mo Chit (Bangkok)

Spent time and money to fill out an application and photos which I did not need.

All they wanted was my state side license and international permit.

    Thai application they threw away.

Photos not necessary as you get the license with free photo.

Residency and medical certificates and the site test and I was home free.

(If you want a motorcycle license also I believe you need one more medical certificate)

    Less than one hour.

Now the first time it is a two year license.

  9. Nope. Many people get a 90 day O visa in Thailand called a conversion (from tourist visa or 30 day stamp) as the first step before the first retirement extension also in Thailand.

That way no O-A ever needed nor is any O visa obtained outside Thailand. Very popular way to start.

    Great answer, Jingthing!

That is how I got my retirement extention with a visa exempt stamp and needing more

than 15 days remaining on the visa exemp.

Most of the other replies are just complicating the process!

  10. You need to accompany her. She can get a Visa where you swear she will be with you at all times. Also she needs a RT plane ticket with return date.Bring your bank statements and your pension income. You are guaranteeing her housing and income. What is her itinerary in the U.S.? Are you taking her to Disneyland? to a state capital? to Washington?

I was once told by an embassy employee even tho you swear and sign a statement to provide all support

for the lady that it means nothing as once she steps on US soil she is entitled to all US handouts like

    food stamps rent etc.

And I don't understand how putting money (10,000-50,000) into a woman's bank account

    means anything.

If it can be put in that easy it can be withdrawn just that easy, by her from abroad or from

    a family member here.

Also I see on the embassy website that it says even if a visa is issued that person still

may be denied to enter the US.

Buy a plane ticket before receiving a visa?

    That's a new one!

    Only if it was refundable.

  11. People like (sunnyjim5 and brewsterbudgen) replying that visas can only be obtained outside of Thailand are dead wrong!

On Jan 13, 2015 I came into Thailand on a 30 day visa exempt valid until Feb 12, 2015.

With at least 15 days remaining I went to immagration at Chaing Wattana Bangkok and

    applied for a: Non-Immigrant Visa

    ( Immagration Bureau)

    Dated Jan 15, 2015

    Immediately it was stamped USED

Then immagration put another stamp in my passport:

    Non O Retirement

    (Immagration Bureau)

    Jan 15, 2015 until April 14, 2015. (3 months)

Before April 14, 2015 I went back to immagration and received another stamp

saying I can stay in the Kingdom until April 14, 2016.

  12. What sort of pain is it?

If it's worse in the morning when you first get up, it could be Plantar Fasciitis (google it to see if it matches your symptoms).

You can get it If you walk in shoes with poor arch support - i.e. flip flops are linked to it in Oz - although it first happened to me when I did a lot of walking/sightseeing in Hong Kong in regular office shoes.

    Being overweight doesn't help.

Only solution I know of is better shoes, and even then it takes a while to go away... - I use it as an excuse to wear trainers to the office personally... (black trainers with no markings so it's not obvious I'm wearing trainers).

Go for a decent make - I go with Asics for trainers, but Reebok/Nike/Adidas/Puma, etc. would almost certainly be OK also. Avoid brands not known for their shoes. I had a pair of Lonsdale trainers that I got in the UK - and I had to throw them out.

I also wondered if it might be Plantar Fasciitis - Here is a wikipedia article about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantar_fasciitis

  13. If one can drive in Thailand with a valid drivers license from his home country ( license agreement 1949 and

1968 between Thailand and other countries) why is it nesasary to

spend the time and money to

get a one or five yr Thai drivers license?

" Using a Foreign Driving Licence in Thailand

Information on who can drive on a foreign driver's licence, and for how long, and when, where and how to get a Thai licence issued for use in Thailand...

To drive or lease a car in Thailand as a tourist or visitor it is necessary to have either a Thai driving licence or a valid foreign driving licence with a photograph. The foreign licence must either be in English, or be accompanied by an official translation into English or Thai. The licence needs to have been issued by a country that has a treaty with the Thai government allowing the mutual acceptance of driving licences. Most countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the USA have this agreement with Thailand under the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic or the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. Those in doubt should contact their embassy for advice."

  14. Why don't you use Google?

When someone comes on here to Thaivisa to ask a question, they are mainly looking for other posters experiences.

So why tell them to use Google?

Also, Google will tell you about where to buy and how to use things, but you are better getting other posters experiences

and recommendations of good companies to use, and maybe even who to avoid.

Forget about Google, there are lots of Thaivisa members who are experts in just about every field.

"Thaivisa members who are experts in just about every field". 5555

    An Ex is a has-been and a spurt is a drip......under pressure.

  15. Have made over 30 trips to Thailand over the years flying from Minneapolis and LA.

A couple of the trips I used a tourist visa but most of the time I entered on a 30 day visa exempt.

Have always spent 6 weeks to 5 months in Thailand.

Up until last year I use visa runs to Singapore for another 30 days.

Now I have a one year retirement extension.

Not once in 30 years have I ever been asked by the airlines for a flight

out of Thailand. Always had a round trip ticket.

    Perhaps times have changed now.?

PS. Wondering if calling the airline would give any answers.

  16. If sin sod is given and then returned for show, a simple solution would be to give the family

a check for what ever amount and let them frame it and hang it on the living room wall.

Then you are not out any money and the parents can boost to other family members and friends

    how generous you are.
