  1. Well I'm off to England for a week in about 7 weeks time and I'll collect a triple entry tourist visa while I'm there so that should see me through until March 2015.

I live in Thailand full time on tourist visas at the moment. I previously had an Ed visa for learning Thai but the lessons weren't nearly enough to do the job properly by themselves and it requires a much larger commitment of time outside of the classroom than I am prepared to commit to so after the year was up I allowed my Ed visa to lapse and didn't move on to the second year. There's really not much point if I haven't learned the first year properly first.

I don't work here and don't have any requirement to employ four Thai's so I won't be starting a local company any time soon. I'm also too young to get a retirement visa.

I earn my money from outside of Thailand due to owning a business which I pay various people to operate on my behalf. I email them instructions / decisions which keeps things running smoothly.

If they introduce more hoops for me to jump through I'll take me and my relatively small 250,000 Baht earnings per month to Cambodia and they can stick it.

My girlfriend has already agreed to move to Phnom Penh if the conditions ever become unfavourable here.

    Lucky bastard.

  2. This has nothing to do with visa extensions but is all about those who do not have a visa and are doing border runs every 15/30 days to get another visa exempt entry. the time has come to sort their ........... and get a proper visa.

Lets face it. doing a border run every 15/30 days is costly, why not fly to a neighboring country for 2 days and get a proper tourist visa.

Visas are also limited too. For example, if you have an ED or other Non-Imm visa, then you get 2 Tour visas; you can't get anymore Tour Visas (at least in Vientiane). You'll either have to go back to a full 1 year non-imm visa (which is expensive), or have to leave. It's all about money.

How long do you have to be gone before getting a third tourist visa? I cannot find info for that. Justification would be a one month stay in my home country.

For example... I just got my second tourist visa (consecutive) as I stayed the winter here. I realize most tourists do not stay four months, but I do. So now, when this second tourist visa expires in two months, I understand I cannot apply for a third one right away. I would fly back home and do one there. Will I be refused still? Perhaps I should wait a few months before applying?

Love to know where you lads get the money to stay here year round on numerous visa runs without a job? I am an old fart but do you do it on the interwhatsit?

simply a case of a military pension, my friend. no, I am not a self made millionaire, but I have the military pension and a bit of disabilitiy. Hope that clears up the confusion.

Thanks for that. Unfortunate if it does not meet the financial requirements but get your point.

  3. changes nothing. I have friends who have been here years and have never once crossed any boarder for any visa extension. This is Thailand-have money- do as you please. This will only make those visa fixers a little more money and many local Thai vendors/businesses a little less.

  4. I wonder how many arrivals will disappear from the TAT roles after August.... It would be funny if they have to stop publishing arrivals because it is decreasing and therefore an embarrassment :P

Over the years so many people have suggested that this, that and the other policy will end tourism in Thailand. Been reading it in the papers letters pages for years. The visa clampdown will have very little affect on tourism. Still a nice place at the moment, hope it stays that way. If you wish to live here it is not that difficult, do it legally.

  5. I dont think a business visa actually allows you to have a job there. As previously stated you will need an Iqama which is a resident permit which will also state what job you are allowed to do and who you work for. Normally you would arrive there on an entry visa which would require a sponsor in Saudi to arrange. Once there you then get your Iquama which allows you to work and can apply for a visa to leave. We used to have the option of an exit/reentry visa or a six month multi exit/reentry visa. Again as previously stated the company/person you will be working for will need to be involved in this process.

  6. I have had the pleasure of working with a a few ex RAAF people that used to regale me with tales of their detachments to Butterworth. May be of interest to other members to read what they used to get up to regarding runs to Thailand for a long weekend.

  7. Again residency certificates are NOT free and were NEVER free.

    From memory its 200-300 baht

If you need 1 for driving license, which mind you OP did not even mention, you must also provide original as copies are not acceptable in any government office[/quote

I think there may be some confusion abou what a residency certificate is. I went to immigration last week to get one for a driving licence and asked for a TM 18 form. Immigration told me that what I actually required was an Alien staying in the house for more than 24 hours form signed by the house owner (Wife) tabian baan and wife's ID. A letter eas then issued stating I lived at said address free of charge.

  8. In my observation, Thai people are generally selfish, so look after number one, so, as is often said "its our country", and can only be owned by thais,(generally) if you allow naturalisation, where is the mobey in that ? Nothing to be earned from it, no more visa money etc.

It would be interesting to know the actual amount of money earned every year from retirees paying for annual visa and re-entry permits. To say nothing of the loss of money to neighbouring countries for those that have to do 20 minute border crossings every 90 days etc.

As said before, we are tolerated nothing more. If we didnt supply a source of income then it would change for the worse rapidly in my opinion.

So cynical, yet probably so true.

  9. I only posed the question for an insight into whether the option of gaining Thai Nationality was mor for convenience than a genuine wish to be a Thai National.

Sent from my GT-I9500 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Isn't gaining Nationality for any country for convenience?

I'm applying for that reason only.

That is fine by me. If you are financially secure for the rest of your life go ahead. If not I would suggest some serious thought would be required as to whether you give up home country Nationality just for convenience

I won't have to give up my British(soon to be Scottish) nationality. Most countries allow dual citizenship.

It's a myth that Thailand doesn't grant those serious of living and working here citizenship, mainly spread on bar stools by those who show no inclination to integrate.

Never said it did. Only asked if you had to would you.

  11. I have received 3 emails in the last 24 hours from IRS Extention Support first claiming to have submitted my request for a tax submission extension, second claiming it was pending approval and third saying it was approved. I am not an American so there is obviously something dodgy about them. All 3 have been forwarded to the IRS anti-phishing address.

  12. So bloody what?

Religions say all sorts of nonsense. Thankfully, we've been able to see beyond the rigid bullshit espoused by most of them to the point where we know more about the human psyche and it is fairly widely accepted that girls of 13, 14, 15 don't have the emotional maturity to make sound decisions about sex.

All this discussion shows is that some people are actually airing their odious "preferences" under the guise of arguing theory and Western/Asia cultural disparities.

Now excuse me while I find a bucket

If it is widely accepted how come the Catholic Church says a female can get married at 14 years of age?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriageable_age

The Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the largest Christian church, with more than 1.16 billion members worldwide.[1] It is among the oldest religious institutions in the world and has played a prominent role in the history of Western civilisation

That's 1.16 billion members. Maybe it is you in the minority?

The Catholic Church is unfortunately renowned for child molesting as well.

How do you draw a parallel between two non clerical people getting married and clergy molesting children?

It would seem to me they are at the opposite ends of the spectrum.

    I stand corrected.
