I tried to use the hospital trick also, I even had been to my doc the day before for a checkup, got him to fill in a medical certificate and write on it that I been under his care from before due date till after.

Even got the wifey to go and lodge it and say I was house bound, could not move.

Even got the wifey to take in my 1yo cute as a button daughter to help in the process.

Basic outcome was bugger off, 2000b fine regardless. You were well enough to send in missus and kid now, should have sent her in on the due date...oh well they did have a point but I just plainly forgot about it.

No problems with it and none in future, even the 90 days is from the actual report date, not back dated by a month or whatever, so actually I got a free 3 weeks or so, kinda.

I was never even going to so much as consider the hospital excuse. I have been here long enough to know that this will fall on deaf ears ! They probably heard it a million times.

Geoff, how long ago since the P Town office got better ? Last time I was there was about 6 months ago ? Has it changed ? My missus has been down to P Town office loads of times in the last few weeks and she reckons its still bad, reckons Patong is best....

You'll probably get a 2000 Baht fine - but if it's the first time you've reported late they often let you off with a warning. My advice would be to go to Phuket town immigration office and report there - not Patong!

I hear lots of stories about it being missed or them letting you off, all from various locations. Ive got off with it before in Patong without even a warning, the guy was quite relaxed and didnt even look, but was only a day or 2.

This time im a month out so im not counting on my luck and preparing for the worse, anything less than the worse will be a bonus !

If your late a month, you should see a doctor or read the 90 day thread where this is answered by Moi already.

Hi, I would like to live in Patong in a room or two* from late October for 5 months or more and most important to me is that I have the fastest internet communication possible.

I guess I need a place with a phone line already - if not does it take more than a couple of days for installation - and DO I NEED TO BE NEAR THE TELEPHONE EXCHANGE for things to work quickly and consistently? What company do I deal with to get the fastest connection? I like to use more than one laptop at once if possible, either through LAN or wireless, I use the computer from 8 pm to 4 am weekdays.

Any practical advice as to how to make the arrangements, or if there is a place that already has the phone line and or the FASTEST most reliable internet greatly appreciated.

*about the desired place:

1. quiet between 4 am and noon so I can sleep, not next to a major construction site.

2. One or two rooms, decent mattress, tv cable or full ubc (not sharing the thing with a whole complex so I do not get to choose the channel) preferred but not required, air conditioning (preferably billed seperately - I rarely use it), in room safe or ability to leave valuables in managers safe, no pool or recreational facilities as I do not use them.

3. Preferred location if it is consistent with fastest internet is within a kilometer or two of family inn, patong palace,c and n resort,

4. I might want the same setup for a friend as well.

To guarantee the 8%, you have to buy a certain level of apartment, and decoration...not just a "run-of-the-mill" condo. The fine print goes on to read (something similar to): the 8% return is based on the Bangkok real estate market remaining robust, and that there isn't competition that would lead to a deterioration of rentals...and on, and on. Essentially, you'll get 8% as long as they find someone to lease your condo at a price that will give you an 8% return.

And if the place rents out for much more you still only get 8% !

The decoration add on thing is nothing new, they did it with a lot of the 5 star resort units, give you a 4% Guaranteed return but you had to spend 1 million baht on the resorts "chosen" furniture, furniture you can pick up yourself at Home Pro for 200k !

I would have expected this to be more difficult to do at 8%, particularly when trying to justify charging 2 million for the furniture, but I guess by the looks of it they have other ways of loading the price !

Maybe next it will be a free swimming pool but you have to pay 1 million baht for the water !

Then I spoke to a guy who ownes a computer shop and he was telling me his business is down 70% over the last 3 years. Owner of the German Restruant I go to tells me this is the quietest he has seen business in over 12 years. All of these business are located in Pattaya. So is this a sign of things to come?

The worst public transit system controlled by gangs, streets are all torn up, traffic, polluted beach, rude service, and thousands of low calibre people looking for the cheapest place to get drunk.

So true, the main reason for me moving away from Pattaya was due to the low life Thais that the place attracted, not so much the low end tourist or long term expat. Cheap places attract cheap people, the 50 plus perverts complaining about the price of beer was difficult but bearable, on the other hand the Thais was another thing !

If half the tourists knew what was going on behind the scenes they would never go there.

Just bear in mind guys, 60-70% of the Thai hookers are in some form of relationship with a Thai man. He could be in Pattaya or outside of Pattaya, the fit ones will have some form of "protection" or certainly friends with someone who has, this ranges from Mafia type to Police, either way be VERY careful how you tread, you have been warned !

It is only a matter of time before something major happens in Pattaya which will really hit the news, its not a case of "if" but "when" ! And we are not talking about earthquakes and Tsunamis......

Lets be honest, there is simply too many business's in Pattaya in comparison to the dollars being spent. Once you take away the sex industry Pattaya ranks last amongst all the tourist places in Thailand for dollars spent per visitor. This is a fact !

This can only be great news for the Pattaya holiday maker as it becomes more & more a buyers market. This is why Pattaya is and always will be the cheapest place to go compared to Phuket or Samui. This will also be the downfall for Pattaya's Real Estate in the next few years, but thats another story....

Pattaya would be the last place I would start a business but many people do, why ? Because a busy place always gets mistaken as a productive place. Biggest mistake you can ever make !

I dont think warranting the guarantee is an issue really, afterall its only money they are giving back to you what you have already paid. Money they originally overcharged you for in the 1st place !
