what about coffee shops?

He is probably saying what many are thinking... but being very rude in such position reflects the IQ of many officials in high positions...
However, not wearing a mask in crowded places such as BTS or plane, is in my opinion not being appreciated by the Thai people in general. If Thai people don't wear masks, it is their choice in their country, but we as foreigners should be exemplary and act according to what is expected.

Today I was in Don Mueang for local flight. No heat scanners or nothing to monitor sick people. No mouth masks for sale inside the airport.

Indeed these stories are rather the exception than the rule but eventually it will be picked up by the media and from there on the downward unstoppable spiral will be very problematic for Thailand. This combined with the slagging economy and the antique politics can’t compete with booming countries like Malaysia, Vietnam Myanmar etc..
I regularly travel to Cam Ranh(vietnam) direct flight from Don Mueang. They are building maybe 50 resorts at the same time a few kms from the airport.
If Thailand doesn’t adjust their strategy they will loose big on tourism. Don’t forget they already lost the the textile industry, the shrimp business and now the car industry starts to move out.
It will be quiet here within 5-10y

This is another really dumb question here on Thai Visa. The durian tree has to grow over a period of at least 7 years. That means watering and fertilizing for SEVEN years with no return. Then when it finally does start to bear fruit, a huge 30 foot tall tree might have 6-10 fruit on it. Not like a mango tree that has upwards of 50 fruit.
Correct, but I bought trees of 2 y old.
For the watering I have 3 wells and huge concrete tanks for buffer ( 2x 500m3). Pumps are 120m deep. It is a big investment but growing rice or Tapioca is not rewarding. I know the risk and worse case no trees but still the land and the wells. Fingers crossed

With so much in one fruit, don’t you fear durian rustlers during the fruit season?
we Know people with a few trees hidden in their gardens, but nothing on a commercial scale
Indeed a worry but it is fenced and there are 2 guard houses on the property. So yes it is a worry and we will need to address this seriously.

I started one year ago with 400 trees, soil can never be too wet nor too dry. The roots spread out but don’t go deep. Durian trees require daily watering and regular fertiliser.
I hope to be able to harvest first Durian in 5-6 years

I would say some don't want you here. Some want you here. Most don't care.
I'm Canadian too. I was shocked when in the first month here (5-6 years ago) a taxi driver told me to go back to my country. I was sure he was joking but he was not. I never met this kind of taxi driver again. Some driver told me instead to stay away from bargirl since there is plenty of less troublesome girl in Thailand and I listened to them. [emoji846]
I had exactly the same taxi-driver-experience. I told him that, if all taxi drivers were like him, I would for sure go back!

It took one month to get online registration but finally succeeded. Can somebody tell me how I can prove to nosy BIBS that I am registered? There is no tab on the online system to save or print.

If me and she go see our friend and his wife, stay friday and saturday night and we drive back on sunday and they dont do a 30, as you say, who is going to know?
Difficult for us to hide anywhere. If you show up at a place, locals will talk and the chances to get a visit from officials is in my opinion quite likely..

Just out of curiosity. If Adam and Eve took this test. Would it show that Eve came from a rib?
It’s like the chicken and the egg, but how would I know, my DNA results show I am 90% Alien and 10% Gorilla.

Some people think this is only happening in Thailand. Same conditions in the USA. I was once detained and sent back for the simple fact my passport was not “machine readable” I was locked up, was not allowed to use computer and was not allowed to walk in the detention room. A guard even accompanied me to the toilets. I also nearly missed my flight back because nobody was following my case. The airport was nearly completely run by Mexican immigration guys completely frustrated weirdos..

Not necessarily... large parts of the Netherlands are below sea level...
They have dikes....

Isn't Bangkok 1 metre... below sea level? and going deeper...
As for the Mekong, let's hope that the Chinese will not divert it all for their own use... which may well happen thanks to the rapid melting of the Himalayan glaciers...
If Bangkok would be 1m below sea level we would have to swim to Nana no?

Me neither, but it happened to a neighbour yesterday. The risk maybe low but just the thought...

It’s even worse, as a condo owner, I still need to complete TM 30 and every time again when I enter Thailand . If not, I risk problems and a fine when applying for a new visa.

There is only one sin that can’t be forgiven, and that is the sin of rejecting Him and refusing His offer of forgiveness and new life in Jesus Christ. This alone is the unforgivable sin, because it means we are saying that the Holy Spirit’s witness about Jesus is a lie (see Luke 12:10).
Why is it so serious to reject Christ? The reason, is because of who He was. He wasn’t just another religious teacher; He was God in human flesh—but when we deny this, we limit Him and assume He is unable to save us. The Bible is clear: “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known” (John 1:18).
The main reason why it’s so serious to reject Christ, is because He is God’s appointed means of salvation. Our greatest need is to have our sins forgiven; if we don’t, we have no reason to expect God to welcome us into Heaven. But by His death and resurrection Christ provided the way for us to be forgiven and cleansed of all our sins.
Don’t turn your back on Christ or refuse His offer of forgiveness. Instead, by a simple prayer of faith ask Him to come into your life today—and He will. Think of it: Before you go to bed tonight, you can know that God has forgiven every sin you ever committed! Commit your life to Christ without delay.
Heaven or Hell, it's your choice. You have until your last breath to choose.
It’s really amazing that some posters (like the one above) are so full of it.. In my opinion this world is not theirs and they try to escape by believing in untouchable alien forms. To make it convenient they give this a human form.
I believe in other people, in science and in myself. I believe we are not unique in having some intelligence. The universe is too big to exclude this thought. We are basically apes with a lucky mutation which makes is a little bit more intelligent than other animals. This makes us maybe special on this planet but for sure not the king of the universe. Believing in a god is superstition, just imagine how an alien life form would evaluate us, killing each other because of religion, praying to the unknown..
Acting as many do because of a book written more than 2000years ago? We have a long way to go!

I am here now, I don’t know why I was born, but I surely know I will die. So instead of loosing my time in theology, I live my life very intensely. If there is a divine afterlife I will regard this as a bonus.
The universe, life, time is so relative and limits our understanding because we try to understand from our point of view.

Thanks for your reply.
I've learned on TVF to take these things slowly and let them develop. She is hardly deprived since she has no debt and no monthly expenses to speak of.
As many have advised its always a happy option to increase her stipend, but not the reverse. As I mentioned in my post I am strongly considering an increase, and I do understand how much I benefit from her company. I gave her ฿25,000 for the month she is gone to her family for Songkran.
You must have a mansion, or you are an utter slob if you pay a maid that much. [emoji12]Twice a month @฿1,000 each time is good enough for me.
I was living before in a international housing compound where salary of maids were more like 25k. I have no idea why you brand me as an “utter slob” On forums all layers are represented of course..

I only read the first three pages of replies, and predictably they were a decent mix of humor and serious answers. But as others have said this is tried and true topic, but by no means irrelevant.
I'll give you a serious answer from my own limited experience.
I met a hard-working low-income girl from Phetchabun through a Thai friend. She worked 16 hour days in a small sidewalk bistro with her sister while caring for her bedridden mother by herself. Very decent large family who all have jobs and certainly no 'bar' experience and no debt except for her motorcycle. Her upbringing was crushing impoverishment and she knows the value of money. Married once to a Thai man for 19 years and divorced at 42, no kids and she doesn't regret that. .
She and her sister own a house they built and paid for jointly. She has always saved and spent her money well. Only a 6th grade education but knows right from wrong and is never moody or pessimistic like so many Thai women. When she occassionly becomes unhappy she just stops talking and it passes in a few hours; she detests conflict and simply won't let herself be unhappy.
After a few months of dating I asked her to live with me and not work. She cleans, cooks, died the laundry, teaches me Thai, and is a constant always-happy companion who refuses to let life get her down. She takes very good care of me and is very sensitive to my moods. We've been together for two years but I get the impression she knows it could end any time. She figures she'll just carry on somehow I guess. We are more sexually compatible than any woman I've ever known in my 60+ years. In short, she's a diamond in the rough.
I pay for everything in daily life including restaurants several times a week, periodic road trips just for fun at nice beaches and good hotels and restaurants. We go to the gym together, hit the beach several times a week, and enjoy each other's company. I got her a passport and we'll do some international travel soon. She's never been in an airplane or out of her country. She genuinely appreciates what I provide and knows she's got a good life now.
I pay her ฿10,000/month and some extra when she visits her family. I never ask but suspect she funnels money to her siblings who can certainly use it as both her parents are dead. I earned large graces with her and her family by paying for her mother's funeral house, which was of course burned later. I buy her a baht of gold as a necklace or bracelet once a year on her birthday along with clothes (I like to see her dressed up) and cosmetics.
I have intentionally never told her my net worth, and she probably won't ever know until I pass as she's in my will; not everything but a pretty substantial amount.
Other farang that know us both tell me I'm very lucky and I should give her more monthly. I'm m considering it now but want to wait to see if she asks for it. It's a perverted kind of test I suppose. I was burned badly in a 10 year marriage in America and don't plan to play the fool again in this lifetime.
Truthfully, for what she brings to my life and what I can afford, I should be giving her closer to 20,000/month. Time will tell.
50,000/month is ludicrous for the poser you describe.
Good women are out there but it takes time and experience to find them and recognize a good one when you see her. The rental experience so many here recommend is just not my style. I'm old fashioned that way and know the rewards of a stable longterm relationship. I'm well pleased that I found her at this point in my life.
Good luck!
If this is all you can give, it make sense, if not, you are taking advantage of her situation.
She gives everything to you and for you she is worth a maids salary?

Sorry guys: would you pay a salary to a girlfriend in europe or any other westernised country?
No!!!!!!!
but here in Thailand men seem to loose their little of brain comoletly!!!!!
Wrong comparison, if your girlfriend would live in a western country earning 250 USD per month and you would have a salary of 5000USD would you expect your girlfriend to continue a full time job?? Many relations fail because “western” men don’t get it that their Thai lady needs income to be able to support her family. I see this as something positive that I can contribute financially. Of course there are limits and this depends on the individual financial situation, only give what you can effort to lose.

What people spend on their GF and family is their own choice even if this would be 100k. I am 20y with the same woman, I help her and her family whenever I feel necessary. My money, my choice. So people who judge others for the money others spend are the ones with a problem, not the other way around. What else are we supposed to do? Pile up the money? For what? Better enjoy it together with the people you love.

A vegetarian friend came to Thailand on holiday and was staying with me.
I took him to an Australian run bar/restaurant one afternoon and ordered some food.
He ordered a cheese omelette and I also explained to the cashier that he was a vegetarian, so definitely a cheese omelette with nothing else added. She said fine.
Our food arrived and we started eating. After a few mouthfuls my friend told me there was meat in his omelette and he went to the toilet to be sick, as he hadn't eaten meat for nearly ten years.
I complained to the cashier, and demanded to see the cook. She came out and prompted explained (without apologising) that of course she had put some pork in it, as "it didn't taste as good otherwise."
We didn't pay the bill and walked out, in the hope it caused them some grief.
If he got sick from a few gram pork how come he could digest the egg?
