  1. Here in Thailand it's usually it's the man who have 2 or more wifes...
  2. One particular party is having a rally here at work today. They expect over 4,000 people to join... and they get 100 per person and 500 per car. As far as I can understand that ain't really a part of democracy... but of course it's nice to see some of the "donations" being distributed to the farmers...
  3. Say that to the US, UK, France, Israel... Thailand has taken areas they have disputed since 1907, when the French colonised Cambodia and made the map that Cambodia and the world court follow... the world court is European, and have never gone against the colonising country... otherwise Belgium would basically belong to Congo, paying restitution for the 10 million that Belgium killed there, America and Israel wouldn't have any military personnel as they would all be held for their war crimes. So, as those countries has shown that you yan take whatever you want... Thailand is just following a praxis set by Europe and America (And China, Russia, Japan, Taiwan...)
  4. Fresh milk is still 100% milk... but all these "milk products" is another thing. For example, sweetened condensed milk, in America and Europe it's basically just milk and sugar, while here in Asia they also add palm oil (I read the lable on one popular brand and it had more palm oil than milk in it). The same with one of the big brands (NOT Thai Denmark) of boxed flavoured milk for children, they use skim milk powder and and add palm oil to get up the fat level... and then they call it milk?!
  5. Yeah, the Israelis stopped the aid trucks because the Palestinians didn't get the bodies of the dead hostages out... but Israel blocked the heavy equipment like bulldozers, escalators and fuel to get into Gaza before that. How would they get the bodies out from under all that rubble that Israel produced with their bombings?! Any sane person knows that Israel negotiated the ceasefire in bad fate, and were never going to honour it...
  6. It's not only Thailand that gives gay men a life ban from donating blood, and then a lot of countries have a limited ban (3-6 months). And yes, it's all because of HIV that Men who has Sex with Men are banned from donating blood. That's because the statistics here in Thailand show that over all 1% of the Thai population has HIV, while the Thai MSM population has an average of about 15% HIV positive. However, in Bangkok it's estimated that the number of MSM with HIV is as high as 25%.
  7. Well, it's just too easy to use the auto correct/suggestions...
  8. This is because the Thai teachers are teaching tutorial classes after school, and if the parents don't pay for their children to take the tutorials... I used to work with one teacher doing like that, his salary was 15k, and then he was making about 100k from the tutorial classes...
  9. Well, the easiest way solve this is to stop the "automatic pass"! When this semester started, I got 3 students who didn't know ABC and 2 who were even struggling with the Thai alphabet. And these are students that have passed grade 9!
  10. Because then many schools aren't hiring, last week before school starts or first week after school starts seems to be the point where many schools start their hiring process... And there is an endemic problem when it comes to planing here, not just when hiring foreign teachers.
  11. The problem is that you can't have restaurants/eateries/ coffee shops on every corner... before covid there were 2 pizza places in the little town where I live, now there are 8. And with cafés and coffee shops it's even worse... when I moved here 10 years ago there were only 5-6, now there are over 60. Not to mention 7-11... that now also serves food and coffee... they have gone from 2 to 11 shops (I found one I didn't even know about just the other day)?!
  12. My friend borrowed money and invested 20 million Baht in building a cannabis farm when it was legalised... he is about half way in paying back the money he has borrowed, but now hea has no way to make that... so this affects are his life until he dies, his family and the other 20 people working for him are also affected. So, as many people in rural areas already have their economy in a disaster state, this will not make it better for any normal people.
  13. This government is banning weed again, impose harder rules on alcohol... but then they want to build casinos?! I guess there's been big brown envelopes going to the Shinawatras...
  14. If Thailand will be for high end tourists... then Thailand needs to be redeveloped too. Can't just offer high end hotels restaurants and attractions in 2-3 cities. And the things that you can see/visit already today needs to be renovated and adjusted! I have been to the same museum twice in 15 years... and what was broken 15 years ago is was still broken last year. And we are talking about a museum at one of the top 20 tourist attractions in Thailand!
  15. Any modifications makes the motorcycle illegal unless you have a doctors note. That includes making it a trike, add a sidecar and everything else, so unless you live in a rural area it might be a hassle... Personally I live rurally and have an old trike that is a home made conversation... I don't drive fast, it has working breaks and lights, and it's not noisy, so the police still let's me go without a hassle. However, I was thinking about buying an ATV instead... and the same police office who let me drive my totally illegal motorcycle told me that if I get an ATV, then he would have to fine me... because even though my motorcycle is 1,000% illegal, it is still considered a motorcycle. And again, if you get a doctors certificate, then you are supposed to be able to register an ATV for road use too. Or you can get it classified as farm equipment and drive it the same way as they do with the home made trucks and other unregistered "farm equipment"...
  16. Yeah... people invested as the government legalised cannabis, and now the next government decided to criminalise it again... and instead they are legalising gambling and take away the alcohol restrictions... Basically it's all about the brown envelopes for this government... Because face it, there are way more alcohol and/or tobacco related deaths, and way more families destroyed because of gambling than because of cannabis. And if they were really thinking about people's healt, well-being and the cost for society, then they should go after the most addictive, devastating, and harmful thing that today is legal and still destroy more lives than alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis combined... refined sugar!
  17. People complaining about the school uniforms?! Many students wear the same clothes for 3 years, and in many cases those are hand me downs. Same when someone here was complaining about 300 Baht shoes... sure that is what some people make in a day... but how much do you spend on your own shoes?! Just think about what quality you would get if you bought 100 Baht shoes?! This week the school started here, and on Wednesday I saw 4 students walking barefoot and stup me, I asked them why... in 3 out of the 4 cases they answered that their new shoes had broken.
  18. Well, she should really blame her brother as she was just his puppet...
  19. That ain't happening as the uneducated crowds believe that, this the 3rd round of this family in charge will be better... They don't see that sure, as farmers they got a little bit more money from their schemes... but prices on (buying/renting) land, seeds and agro chemicals went up so much that in the end they had less money left in their hands... and instead supporting the all mighty company that in some provinces control 95% of the food market... Same, about 90% of my Thai friends think that legalising cannabis was great, and they don't support the move to build casinos in Thailand... but somehow they still support this governmet?! I think it all comes down to the pieces of "purple and brown paper" they were handed for attending political rallies before the election...
  20. Yes, and do it the Trump way... deport her to a neighbouring country... like Palestine, Syria or Yemen...
  21. Remember that Musk is a white South African...
  22. I didn't have any tattoos until I came to Thailand and my Thai friends asked me if I didn't want to go together with them and get sak yants. But on the other hand, back home all of my family have tattoos, and all are honest working people, and not degenerates like those working in finance, lawyers or a plushy offices, just stealing hard working people's money. Because frankly, who is worst for the world?! A person who is working hard for their living and doing some drinking, gambling or whatever, or someone like the CEO of Blackrock with billions to his name, closing down companies and factories, not because they are making a loss, but because they aren't making ENOUGH profit... I worked for one company that was closed down by the owners because we "only" made a yearly 15% ROI.
  23. When I moved here 9 years ago the city had 2 7-11, now there are 9 and 1 more coming. At the same time there were 12 coffee shops, now there are over 40. For restaurants I'm not sure, but there were 3 moo krata, now there are 10, and for westerner food there were 1 steakhouse and 1 pizza place... now there are 5 places identifying as steakhouse and 8 places selling pizza (2 selling Italian style pizza). Might it just be that there are TOO MANY RESTAURANTS?!
  24. I have had similar problems, especially when people use 3rd party companies in Bangkok to send by Thailand post. I get a tracking number, that is then not in the EMS system, and sometimes it takes days before it's finally registered in the online system, and few times the package have been delivered with another EMS tracking number on it. And to/from abroad (home)... I had a package sitting at the airport back home for 5 weeks according to the EMS, then it was finally sent to Thailand, and arrived at my house less than 24 hours after arriving in Bangkok... and I live 400 km from Bangkok.
  25. This is not like in Myanmar as the problem is that Bangkok is sinking, while the sea level is rising... and if you are right, then look at the US that have had 9 cities serve as capitals...
