  1. I did a visa run by air to Singapore and a return flight the next day expecting to get a 30day upon arrival, except immigration asked where was my ticket to exit the country. I did not have one and 2,500 baht later I had to purchase a ticket to exit Thailand. I never used the ticket because at that time I finally got my B VISA from the school.

Now, I'm on a retirement visa and just provided my yearly income statement from my Embassy.

The rules for VISA's have always been on the books and finally enforcing them which I agree. I've seen to many over stayers some don't make problems others, well, you them.

I wish my country the USA would enforce the law and maybe just maybe we wouldn't have the situation we have now. The 5 requirements: WHY are you here? Where are you staying and if a hotel the owner registered or be fined like here. Name of friend/relative and verify. Proof of 5,000USD (NOT CHEAP THERE). Exit ticket.

And with today's computers flag any people who haven't exited on their visa date or get an extension. 100USD A day overstay fine.

    But, dreams never come true.

  2. Your landlord with all of the new enforcement by immigration should have reported who lives in rooms, homes, motels etc... So, unless you speak Thai have your landlord complete the form available at stationary stores near schools or others.

I TYPE GOGGLE AND TRANSLATE TO THAI WITH INSTRUCTIONS I WANT DONE, IT HELPS 70% OF THE TIME.

IT goes hand-in-hand with my financial requirements once a year with an O.

  3. The reason is simple.. (i had the same when i tried to cancel my marriage extension). Your extension can only end if you divorce or if you dont renew it or if you go out of the country without a reentry permit.

    So that is the problem.

mmm I have read many posts here saying they had changed from one to the other and back again ....

Believe me, they can't cancel the marriage one. I tried as I went for Elite Visa. I had to leave the country to cancel the marriage one or divorce (and could only cancel after the divorce) Or wait for the marriage extension to expire. There was no way to change one into the other as mariage one had to be invalid first.

Maybe I was not clear - I do not want to cancel it - I want my next extension to be retirement , sorry

It seems you want cake and eat it to. Not going to happen. Can't have it both ways.

  4. Like you I have spent many years in foreign lands (28 years), working and living. Now, in Thailand 6 years and as a teacher and a member of the community I've Thailand to be a stagnant culture. I first visited here in 1987 and favor of the country is about the same however: the increase in violent crime, aggressive behavior of vendors, taxi, tuk-tuk drivers etc.. oh! bus drivers and injuries.

So, the Thai's with money turn a blind eye to law for gains, restrictions for renting, buying your tied to a Thai wife, girlfriend as co-signers etc... There are places Hua Hin being a nice expat area but crime exist everywhere. As many Thai's are unemployed in tourist industry ( no rain no rice this year aslo) ,has brought a dangerous image to Thailand.

Political uncertainty may be a problem as many of us question, like home owners, business owners etc...

So, I never been to Costa Rica but St. Thomas long time ago. Another point, medical care and your insurance. Myself, I'll be going back to the USA next because of medical reasons as here the doctors here don't have the skill I need.

Most beaches here are not very clean.

  5. It sounds normal at this point with the surge of immigration requirements as per law all foreigners place of stay must be reported. The landlord is aware of the crackdown but probably doesn't understand how to report it.

My landlady make it a point to give me a new lease paper as required and 2 days ago while sitting in a bar 3 immigration officers came in and checked visa's and asked where we lived legally. The owners wife did not do a 90 day report on her husband and was fined 1000 baht.

    So, be legal or beware.

  6. Well, you have some kind of income to have remain in Thailand, so, take that money and when you go home buy a RV. I lived in a Winneabago ( 2200$) and loved it, latter I bought a Southwind for 5,700 cash both ran great. Stay in RV parks, state parks, Wal-Mart parking lot etc.. Why are you depended on other people? Your a big boy and made decisions to come into a new culture, what's the difference going home? Gas is cheaper there, western food is cheaper. Yes, many things are cheaper here but when you average cost what you spend just as much here to live compared to what you would at home. Want work, try Labor Ready which pays cash each day. I worked there as a road flagger following the projects with my RV and always had work because I could travel with the company.

Its time to shake off lifestyle of Thailand and muster up.

  7. Its the same problem in the USA, how about spending that money in an agreement to build a better infrastructure of the country where they come from and produce food, farming, training etc... The billions spent to just feed them on foreign soil is a waste. They have no skills, so crime grows etc..

A man in the USA EDDIE ALBERT a WWll General/Movie star took his fortune and sent farm equipment to Africa no weapons or build refugee camps.

    Sometimes old school is right.

  8. Very simple Dude, I married a Russian woman while working in Saudi Arabia therefore; does your spouse have a passport of your country or other? Secondly, if you are retired here and income but does she have proof of income.

From your ?, this person is not Thai and other people can help on this but I think there are many other HOOPS you will need to jump through. Good Luck!
