I thought it was common knowledge, on this Forum at least, that UK passport renewals are processed by VFS in either Bangkok or Chiang Mai? You retain your old passport until you collect the new one, when the corners are cut off the old one. You also get the Embassy letter to prove it's a genuine passport. If you renew in the UK you use the new passport to enter Thailand, which means the Embassy letter is not required. What possessed you to post your passport?
I've been reading this forum for over a decade & if I found I could renew my passport online directly that is the process I would have followed too.
Giving it to an agent to renew my British passport wouldn't have crossed my mind - or what I would have wanted. I may have asked the question as I've never had to do it in Thailand. Done it in Zurich, whilst working.
Bottom line, I'd have done the same as this guy and may have got into the same situation, but then questioned why I need to involve an agent. I'd have spoken to the embassy, who should have supplied relevant process.
I also know the VFS building very well as I've been many times & live close by.

Never heard the term - "Dogs of War", so must have happened ????

OP, as you're in the UK, I assume you have an NHS lateral flow test kit at home?
Why not take one of those for the next few days. Will save on the cost of a PCR test before departure ( which you don't actually require after the 1st)

If they can, many Thais go to Switzerland for that stuff.
Funny because many Swiss I knew when I worked there went to Brazil for it.
I think in Brazil it's actually expected.

From the AA website:
What you need to renew your licence online
- A valid UK passport.
- To be a resident of Great Britain – there’s a different service in Northern Ireland.
- Address history for the past 3 years.
- Your current driving licence – if you don’t have it you must say why in your application.
- Your National Insurance number – if you know it.
The DVLA will use your current passport photo for your new licence if you have a digital passport. If you don’t want the DVLA to use this photo or they can’t use it, you’ll need to send a photo in the post.
- To the other poster discussing how long it was taking - I renewed mine last year whilst in the UK and got it back in just over ONE week ( Note: This was my experience as I'd renewed my UK passport a year or two earlier and they had my details on file )
Regards

I live in the sticks in Ubon.
I receive fortnightly "Private Eye" magazine from UK. The best time was 4 days door to door. Worst time was 12 days.
We actually get stuff from Ubon to London and many times they arrive in a week. We haven't lost anything yet. These are usually small boxed parcels.
From London to Bkk we've had a couple of things go missing, but that was Covid times with less flights, things storing up etc

The department’s deputy chief, Dr Banlang Uppapong, said ATK and RT-PCR tests should be used only when individuals have been exposed to COVID risks
Tests are appropriate for use within 14 days after traveling from locations with high infection rates or after contact with someone who contracted COVID-19
..
That's one way of keeping the numbers down....????

What about driving without insurance.
I used to pick up cars in Gibraltar/La Linea on many, many occasions - on a few occasions I asked could I extend the contract over the phone - not possible if you don't come to the office. If you're not here you'll be committing an offence by driving without insurance.
-
Surely the best coin is to:
Find a penny, pick it up. All day long, you'll have good luck.
-
I'd also look at the issues you may experience when things don't go to plan:
Network down / slow. Thailand still has many issues so you need a backup to connect
Issues with your security on your PC to connect to the office
Office software if it's required to get through your office firewall failsRemote IT support from the office
Your PC crashes. Requirement of a new one and loading office software remotely
If you're expected to do up to the sec' work/support can be troublesome. As long as your office know you're in Thailand you should be ok, but I'd bring (or did) a backup PC

Asiatique on the riverfront up-scale market stalls and restaurants.
JJ/Chatuchak for the market.
Silom/Lumpini
Sukhumvit from around Nana, sois up to and around Terminal 21.
Obv' the large number of very large shopping centers.
As someone else said in the center, public transport is best during the day.

Buy your wife a sewing machine - my wife alters any clothes when we're in the UK if necessary
In BKK I just get the lady on the Soi to do it - usually @75-100 baht.
She has told my wife she'll no longer alter my shorts as they're held together just by her thread ???? - but at 100 an alteration I still want my favourite shorts.

Isn't that a simple DBS check - you get the results back in a few days.
I did one recently for an application - my Thai wife did one too recently for ID purposes.
Cheap and straightforward. Saying that we've never had any criminal convictions.
-
No - that's exactly what I'd do - negotiate from there!
Exactly what Thai's would do.

The reason my parents never come to visit - they'd be prisoners in the Condo block.
My Dad has a mobility scooter - taxis don't suffice other going from A- B, to see the city no window shopping.

Sorry no one has yet answered my original question and can see the site but these days one can not talk to someone or by email but think just have to go directly to my local DLT Kanchanaburi office.
My sister in law did offer to get me one for free initially without attending anything many years ago - she works for the govt. I did it the "right" way - maybe my defenses are weakening ????

I just feel like a - "if you don't like it you can always go home moment"....????

Also try looking at other UK Forex companies such as Currencies Direct and TorFx.
I've used both of these when buying properties in Thailand(Sterling to Baht) - good rates, fast and competitive.
I use DeeMoney to transfer money back.

Samed is a nightmare on the way to / from the pier on Songkran.
I've had people try to get into our car with flour/water. Slapped it all over the car including windscreen so you can't see. If returning to BKK head the other way out of town to get on the main road.
I've spent many, many Songkrans there - just go outside the "idiot hours" - early in the morning(first speedboats @ 8-830), hard to avoid on the way back unless you return very early.
Samed Villa is always a good choice , easy to walk where you wish.

You're ScotlandtheBrave and you've had 3 shots in around 6 months - and now you're looking for more - that movie Braveheart has just gone in the bin - back to Gladiator ????
My wife has had 3 incl boosters in England and has been offered another when she's just got back to Bangkok. She's not taking it.
I think maybe too much under the current virus threat. I'd personally lay-off unless I had a medical reason ( or very old - I recommended my 84 y old Mum get it when she can ) - but each to their own.
