  1. I'm surprised there is nothing in the contract from your agent to cover this. I know when we got our first rental contract years ago there was.

I now rent out properties in BKK and there is a clause in there for both parties where one party wishes to break the contract and the subsequent penalty fees ( this covers if I wish to sell/terminate or the renter wishes to leave early ).

Probably one senior training a junior colleague, pointing out what to look for "on the job".
As you say it wasn't busy, so no big queues or wait time - all innocent.

But saying that - "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you" ????

Yep. After a high blood pressure result, I went all in over 2 years ago and I'm down to 20.5 BMI. You need commitment. And forget the idea about your metabolism slowing down: that's not science, it's not a thing. Metabolism only really slows down over 60 years old and not even by much.

I run (not jog) 8km every 2 days. Build yourself up to this. Start with babysteps: 1 slow jog of 5km per week. Lots of running Apps to help you build up. I find this so easy now that the next day I feel nothing.

I don't eat for 18 hours. Eat within a 6 hour time period only. If you have a pretty sedentary life, you only need one meal a day. So stop eating at 6pm and next eat at 12pm. But splash out on it. So long as the body enters "famine mode" for 3 or so hours a day (it kicks in around 15 hours of not eating), then you're cutting away that fat. You'll feel high when you enter famine mode. It just feels great.

During the 18 hour period, only water, tea (no milk/sugar), coffee (no milk/sugar). Or herb teas.

No sugar. This is your true enemy. Substitutes work with a lot of people (e.g. Stevia). You can buy no-sugar chocolate, no-sugar sweets, no-sugar ice cream etc. But even these you should probably not take during the 18 hour famine period (the science is out on this).

No alcohol. Except say once a week.

You'll need to control hunger pangs. Drink Japanese Green Tea. That will kill your hunger. Fill your stomach with water. Drink hot ginger.

Every morning, do a bit of weightlifting in your bedroom and around 100 press-ups and sit-ups.

You'll start to lose body fat rapidly. You'll find getting below 17.5% body fat is extremely challenging but the first few kgs will be surprisingly easy.

Buy a body fat/BMI/muscle weight measurement machine. They're dirt cheap.

You will feel massively more energetic and sleep better. And girls will be hitting on you, and your wife will be angry and try to get you fat again.

You could just slit your wrists and reduce all them....

Can you state your age and do a catch-up every year....

BTW - don;t cross the road, use any electrics  - or come into contact with anyone with Covid...

Yes Cha Am is greatly preferable to Hua Hin. Definitely not as Touristy as Hua Hin and much less crowded. It has a long and attractive beach contrary to Hua Hin where the beach is diminutive and dirty.

    I disagree.

HH "beach side"/town  is much nicer than Cha Am in my opinion. Has much nicer markets etc.

I've been to both many, many times - both obv' have the road from hell from BKK. I don't believe I've ever done a journey either way without seeing an accident.

Cha Am is disgusting  at weekends - all the beach front is trashed, massively loud music on the beach road - all the garbage, Soi dogs in packs.

    10 years ago it was better - ( now, I haven't been since April 2019 ) it's turned into a dump.

HH seems to be much better, less rubbish ( don't know where you get the beach preference from ), better nightlife and restaurants. That's two of us travelling - not looking for girls....

We basically only stay in Cha Am  if we need to get back to BKK a little faster in the morning or we've gone further south and need to break the journey.

  5. For travelling with my Thai wife from London. I assume it's a non-o, we plan on going for up to 90 days/

    Requirements:

    • 1. Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months.
    • 2. Photograph of the applicant, taken within the past six months.
    • 3. Financial evidence (e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, proof of sponsorship from a third party).
    • 4. Proof of relationship to a family in Thailand.
    • Spouse of a Thai national
    • Marriage certificate
    • A copy of a ID card of a Thai spouse
    • Children of a Thai national / Legally adopted child of a Thai national
    • Birth Certificate / Certificate of adoption
    • A copy of a ID card of a Thai parent
    • Parent of a Thai national
    • Birth Certificate / Certificate of adoption
    • A copy of a ID card of a Thai children
    • Details of accommodation in Thailand
    • Travel Booking confirmation

For section 3 - how much money do I need, it doesn't seem to say anywhere. Can this be in my UK bank or does it need to be my Thai account.

Travel Booking Confirmation - I've never provided this in over a dozen years, I just give the flight numbers I'll be using. Do you actually have to buy a ticket now before applying for the visa - always seemed strange to me to buy a ticket when you don't have a visa to travel...

    Thanks in advance

    Regards

Thailand is on the UK red list so you'll need to quarantine - costs below:

How much you’ll need to pay

      Rate
    1 adult in 1 room for 10 days (11 nights) £2,285
Additional rate for 1 adult (or child over 11) £1,430
Additional rate for a child aged 5 to 11 £325

Unless you're desperate to get back I'd leave it a month or so and it may move back to amber list if the vaccination program in Thailand ramps up.

When filling in the form put extra emphasis on the reason why your partner will return to Thailand. They are very, very focused on this - Letter from employer saying they have x holiday and are expected back on y date, family, house deeds etc ?

When we did it years ago a few times, I think it was about 2/3 weeks - and we specified the date we were flying out and that was the start date on the visa, so not the date we received the visa from VFS.

As for Grealish. It was more than I would have like to pay but fortunately it's not my money. He had a release clause and we met it

Grealish did not have a release clause of £100 million - that was purely the figure Villa asked for - there's a difference..

    Welcome home Cristiano.

I'm actually in 2 minds about whether it's a good idea... But for now... Wow.

He;s got the experience & fitness - just look at his goals tally last year..

His shirt sales will cover any costs = money wise no brainer.

I was going to having a bet it on Monday, but ended up at B&Q. Something was simmering & I couldn't see him going to City.

Hopefully brings his winning mentality. Should give the squad a lift.

I just hope we're not paying silly wages.

We've been hanging off and off booking as I was expecting this - my Missus is desperate to get back to see her parents & old Nan', but this is the final nail in the coffin for us this year.

I know three guys  close to where I live who have Thai wives who they haven't seen for well over a year and it'll be the same for them I believe.   Luckily for me my wife is here.

Until they fully vaccinate in numbers they can forget any sandbox thoughts in reality - I know the UK is only small but I hope this gives them a kick up the backside as to how countries outside Thailand are perceiving the current situation.....

  10.

When I moved back to the UK with the missus we applied for insurance. My wife did her driving test here ( she'd been driving for 15 years in Thailand  & I was on her license for many). They didn't give her any discount or recognition of driving - we were explicitly told they didn't recognise Thai insurance/driving records, only records since she passed her UK test.

I had had a full no claims for many years in the UK before I left, they gave me 2 yrs no claims based on the length of time I'd had a license I believe and telling them my last no claims was max.

I approached usual insurers AA,RAC,Addmiral,Direct Line etc. and they were all similar in their approach,

You can probably negotiate a two years discount but no more in my experience.

P.S. To add her onto my insurance when I was teaching her on her provisional the cost was relatively small - can't remember exactly but about £40 on a new Ford Fiesta ( they wouldn't insure her on my Mini Copper  convertible.. )

I did write a section on it in another thread but I can't find it now - the search facility doesn't seem to be great on here & I've tried google to update that thread but can't find it. Maybe the @oldgit has more experience re the search facility.

    Was it this one? https://aseannow.com/topic/1213602-irish-passport/page/2/?tab=comments#comment-16506851

That's the one thanks. I've updated it.

FYI - it seems they are now taking the docs to process the First Irish Passports ( Webchat is open for questions)

Seems pretty straight forward - docs that need to be sent are covered in your application, however in summary.

    Documents Enclosed:
    •    COVER LETTER ( you get it at the end of your on-line application )
    •    Identity Verification  Form – ( you get it at the end of your on-line application )
    •    My original birth certificate
    •    Proof of address
    •    Proof of Name
    •    Copy of Photo-id (certified)
    •    Additional Documents:
o    My Father’s original Irish birth certificate (Dublin) - I got a copy from Dublin see above
    o    My Parents’ marriage certificate
    o    My Mother’s birth certificate ( don't believe this is required )

    Address:

    Online Passport First Time Applications

    PO Box 12986,

    Balbriggan,

    Co. Dublin

    K32 AE72

Note: I've seen two posted but the above is the correct one confirmed by on-line chat.

Cost of application was 90 Euro

    Regards

Just as a follow-up on this I received my Irish passport 23/8/21.

From them opening up etc I reckon it took around 6/7 weeks ( they would have had a backlog due to Covid closure )

    All very straight forward.

  13. Hi

I'm British - my Dad was born in Dublin, my Mum England - I received my Irish passport this morning.

I got it to allow me easier access to the EU if we decide to stay there over Thailand going forward.

Took slightly longer than advertised as they weren't processing NEW passport applications due to Level 5 Covid.

From when they've actually had my docs and moved from level 5 it's probably taken around 6/7 weeks - very simple and very straight forward application and receipt. ( cost is around £100 in total )

I did write a section on it in another thread but I can't find it now - the search facility doesn't seem to be great on here & I've tried google to update that thread but can't find it. Maybe the @oldgit has more experience re the search facility.

But overall, very, very simple, I did document everything I submitted in that other thread ( including getting my father's birth certificate from Dublin ).

If anyone needs any info' I can help with please don't hesitate to P.M. me.

    Regards
