  1. i have seen a weight bench in Supersport in Central Festival. You could also try the one on the top floor of Robinsons. If they dont have it you can order it from a catalogue. I think a plain vanilla bench was about 4,000 baht last time i asked, not sure if it comes with the support pillars though.

  2. AFAIK most motorcycle showrooms are about the same size. Have a drive around the center of Phuket Town, there's practically one on every street corner.

We bought one from the Honda dealer opposite Timber Hut on Yaowaraj road, but they all look the same to me.

Used? There's quite a few small shops around. The only one i can remember is the one at the Khao Rang intersection. They want silly money though. I think a 3year old Honda Wave 125 with more than 30,000 km on the clock is around 25,000 baht.

Why bother when you can get a new one for about 40,000 baht?

  3. i think it could be used to mean "fitting", "perfect" or "a success"

either in a design sense such as steve mentions, or in other contexts eg.

"chiwit yung mai long dtua" - (my) life is not yet where i want it to be

"turakit phung long dtua" - the business has just started to be a success/work

  4. i think most of the ones mentioned above are in Phuket Town.

Central Festival - Zen (ground floor), Fuji (top floor)

    Index Living Mall - Oishi

    Yakiniku Koku (near Lotus)

not sure if there are anymore.

p.s. Zen in Patong is more expensive than the one in Central.

  5. Nothing is ever watertight. But you can put the odds on your side to withstand being kicked out of a residence. Advantages and disadvantages to any type of lease or a servitude. The biggest disadvantage is a number of land depts. do not have lots of experience with servitudes. It takes many hours and even days for the officers to investigate a foreigner is allowed to register the usufruct, right of habitation or superficies.

Any party is allowed to register with another party. However a clear benefit must be shown and tax paid on that amount.

thanks, thats made it a bit clearer :o

  6. if you plan to live here you will need transport.

Public transport is hopeless and almost non-existent outside of the main areas. Even where it does exist it is limited to:

    - motorcycle taxis: dangerous, can't transport very much

    - beach buses: slow, uncomfortable and not that regular, dont run at night

    - tuk tuks: rip-off, slow, uncomfortable, annoying and quite often dangerous, controlled by the "tuk tuk mafia" - scumbags of the highest order.

    - airport "limousines" - ripoff, see tuk tuk mafia above.

    - air-con bus: limited to Phuket Town and only run 2 routes.

If you plan to just hang around 1 area, such as Patong then a motorbike is fine. If you will be going all over the island, buy a car. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, I've seen some perfectly drivable suzuki jeeps or small mazda pickups going for around 50,000 baht. Repairs here are very cheap so you can keep an old banger going much longer than in the West.

  7. nice website Japhrodisiac. Interesting to be able to do comparisons between different cars.

I'm a little disappointed with my FC compared to what they say i should be getting :

for the Jazz Vtec, they say city driving is around 15km/litre. i'm getting about 12km/l driving around Phuket. i don't have a heavy left foot and there aren't really any traffic jams around here :o

  8. "They will come and pick up animals that are hurt and will treat them and then return them to the area that they come from."

Let's see if I have this right. One of the dogooders picks up a sick or injured animal that probably got sick or injured because it's a stray with nobody to care for it, treats it, then returns it to the streets where nobody will care for it.

That sounds pretty lame to me.

Soi dogs don't just care for and treat sick dogs - they also neuter them (by the way, they also neuter healthy strays).

Its the neutering that is the most important part of their function and is definitely worth supporting. :o

  9. i remember reading in "Thailand: Economy & Politics" - (Pasuk & Baker) that the majority of the population were basically serfs, with all men having to pay corvée.

I think slaves were seperate from this and were wholly owned by their masters. I can't remember how someone became a slave though, but i don't think it was based on race.

  10. Have to agree with Tigerbeer.

I can't see the benefits over the cheaper Jazz or Yaris, and its not much cheaper than the Altis, Civic or Focus, all of which are excellent cars.

The Tilda has a slightly larger size than the Jazz or Yaris, but isn't that missing the point of a car in this class? Also a slightly larger engine (the 1.6) but it offers the same power output (109bhp) as the Jazz Vtec and Yaris.

the only thing i can see is a more expensive car offering the same benefits as a Jazz or Yaris, only being a Nissan its resale value will be less that the Honda or Toyota. Is there some outstanding feature of the Tilda which i am missing?

The hatchback looks nice from the rear though, sort of like a Mazda 3. The front isn't great though and you can tell its a Renault. The sedan just looks silly, but not as hideous the Honda City.
