  1. Its unfortunate and disagreeable for sure, far too prevelant in the Hotel trade, I have found it makes a huge difference if they know you speak Thai, or you immediately correct them in Thai if you hear something offensive.

Not that doing that will probably stop them, they just wont do it to your face, just behind your back which is again typically Thai,

To so many Thai people the universe is Thailand, not many care what happens outside their own village let alone outside the country, thats just down to poor education and no social ettiquette, and its the lower end of this same education system that end up as the service personnel in many cases.

To many Thai people, if you are not Thai, you dont really exist, you are tolerated purely as a financial source and often resented. Sad but true.

The Thai people generally are lovely, gentle and pleasant and I enjoy living amongst them, those that have been exposed to the cities, tourism, and "foreigners" on a daily rotational basis of many colors and nationalities, are the ones that tend to have "attitude" which then begs the question is it fhem, or what they have been exposed to by the foreigners and their behaviour which has given rise to their attitude or opinion.

Well said, I would add racism and discrimination is the problem of the person who possesses it. It is a waste of your life to go on a crusade against the ignorant nearly impossible to educate them. Just look at the statement here about how people cannot tell the difference between an American and a Canadian so expect to be treated as such. Pure ignorance from a non Thai. My advice would be to move to some place ( restaurant, city, country) you are treated well life is too short. I do not believe the OP is thin skinned no one likes to be discriminated against it exists in many forms young, old, man, woman, religion, skin color, nationality, skinny,fat....... There are too many of them to fight them all but an occasional tongue lashing is good for the spirit.

  2. This Russian incident was a real threat. NOT. That plane was developed in 1956 and is a slow propeller driven plane without much altitude or speed capability.

Russia is really struggling due a big drop in oil prices and simply doesn't have any money to spend on military. Its equipment and technology is crap.

All Putin can do or say to sound tough is to remind people that he has nukes. That whole bunch is comprised of Neanderthals.

Why are conventional weapons important any more? You talk about Neanderthals. Let's see what America would look like if Russia sets off an EMP using its nuclear arsenal ph34r.png

And what would Russian look like about a minute later? MAD still applies.

  3. By Jessica Chasmar - The Washington Times - Wednesday, October 22, 2014

"A top Canadian naval officer reportedly warned soldiers on Tuesday not to wear their uniforms out in public for fear of being targeted, following two deadly attacks this week on uniformed soldiers in Quebec and Ontario."

    MORE

I don't think that will solve the problem!

My condolences to the soldiers, and others killed, and their families.

The opposite should be done, allow soldiers in uniform to carry at least sidearms. The Sgt at arms got it right, one less to worry about, root them out and kill them. This happening in Canada is an eye opener that ALL western countries will be targeted. This plague will continue until all western countries as well as others band together to deal with this problem in a united manner. I hope Canadians can sort it out quickly.

  4. You cannot retire for 3 more years. She has a business to run and probably does not want to uproot her daughter and come to the US. What is the hurry? You have been dating long distance for 2 years so it seems you have not actually lived with her for any length of time, you never really know someone until you have been around them on a day to day basis for quite a while. I am not questioning your or her sincerity but I would not be pushed into marriage over someones time limit. Sure give her a ring, and maybe in a year or 2 have a ceremony but do not register it until you have retired to Thailand for a couple years. 2 years is a long term relationship, 2 years long distance is a bit different. I wish you luck in what ever you decide.

  5. Flaunting money only impresses and attracts people that love money IE gold diggers scam artist, salesmen, thieves, groupies, barfly's,.... I guess it depends on who you want to spend your time with. People with money usually spend time with others in the same boat living a upscale lifestyle, pretenders do not last long in the group.

Good people with or without money are a great find, jerks are a dime a dozen.

  6. So what some posters are saying is that we shouldn't persue a cure for cancer as if one is found, so many people won't die early leading to the world being overpopulated. Why not go the whole hog and stop vacinating people against diseases, treating accident victims, in fact just give up each country having a health service, just think of all the money that would save and just how much the population of the world would be reduced.

What absolute nonsense, but then I'm probably biased as I've had four operations in the past 14 months for bladder cancer and the treatment is ongoing and I'm fighting this thing as hard as I can, I've only got this one life, and I want to be here to enjoy it as long as possible.

Best of luck with your fight

  7. Rain was forecast for this weekend. Good time to seed. However, this morning's storm came over from the SE of San Kamphaeng, from Lampang. I tracked it on the tmd rain radar website. I doubt it spilled much, if any rain over the catchment for the Kuang reservoir.

I am curios, why foreigners care about rain?

I was planning to go hiking in the very area the storm came through. Always best to check the weather thumbsup.gif

CHIANG MAI, 12 October 2014 (NNT) -- Chiang Mai has kicked off its artificial rain making mission so as to add water into a key dam.

Rain fall is targeted at replenishing water supply, besides hiking, others want water to drink, cook, and bathe with.

  8. You did the crime (no helmet, paperwork) you paid no fine, but you had to do a little time practicing English with him. While it may be inconvenient look at it as an opportunity to make a positive acquaintance with a policeman, you never know it may work out in your favor in the future. The best way to get out of it would be to ask questions in return, Yes I have a wife and children... are you married and have children? If it goes on much longer invite him and his family to dinner, never hurts to have a policeman as a friend.

  9. OP Many have commented on rice growing from a business economic stand point but if you consider it as a hobby it might be a worth while en devour for her. If she likes doing it, preoccupies her time, and it is healthy and constructive I say let her have at it. In the end you get rice to eat, it makes her happy seems better than being married to a shopaholic you cannot eat shoes or clothes. Perhaps ask her for a small section of land and plant some other things as suggested, if she has other things to eat and can turn a profit she may see the light and diversify her hobby and make it profitable and it could grow into something you both enjoy. All the best to you and you bride.

  10. I really do hope non-muslims have stopped offering the aid like the latest victim Muslims were with him and released. These videos we see of family members begging for a life of a loved one are tbh a waste of time.

Naming Radical Muslim Extemist Terrorists would be more convenient instaed of blaming the whole Muslim community...

The sooner we have the names of the extremist terrorists, the happier we will all be.

The problem is not all Muslim. The problem is a small group of Extremists.

    Small groups?

What does the I in IS, ISIL, ISIS stand for?

What do IS(IL IS) Abu Nidal , Abu Sayyaf, HAMAS, Hizballah, al-Qa’ida. Ansar al-Islam, al-Shabaab, Boko Haram, Ansar al-Shari'a , al-Nusrahall have in common?

Must be they are all right handed!
