  1. It's an indicator not an instrument for measuring voltage. if you see a beautiful girl in a nice dress - doesn't mean she's female.

    Look at these numbers

200 milli Amps is a lethal current for a human

    Normal conditions 220 v / 1350 ohms = 160 milli Amps electric shock

    Damp human 220 v / 1000 ohms = 220 milli Amps electrocution

    Wet human 220 v / 500 ohms = 440 milli Amps

    Wet human 100 v / 500 ohms = 200 mill A

The point being TIT there are no registered sparks. The industry is not regulated. Equipment is not regulated.

May I suggest it is unwise to touch electrics here for safety reasons.

    Best regards.

  2. With due respect the 'tool' in question is a rudimentary voltage indicator. It will only indicate the presence of 'voltage'. A Thai electrical installation is held together with installation tape because of the installation method. And it is not uncommon for circuits to be unprotected by a 'fuse' - immaterial here.

Live will have a potential difference of somewhere between 0-220 volts

Neutral may have a potential voltage to 'earth' for example 0-50 volts the voltage tester will illuminate to indicate the presence of 'voltage'.

If this cable is tested before any other the inexperienced will assume this to be the live. And by a process of logic the other cable to be the neutral. Clearly not the case.

A very dangerous scenario for a bare foot human being about to grab hold of a live cable protected by a dodgy 30 A fuse or non at all. Worst case scenario electrocution!

The point is one of safety. A voltage indicator can be a lethal tool in the hands of an amateur. Wouldn't you agree?

Best regards, TIT it is wise to be cautious and look before one leaps.

  3. SWISS

A professor works in a University.

A teacher teaches in a school.

When you peruse teaching situations vacant here in Thailand the requirement is a degree and a TELF certificate to satisfy the department of Education. The TELF certificate is for the benefit of language learners. It demonstrates the holder has the desired knowledge of approved teaching methodology.

Thai society is bureaucratic and the correct piece of paper is always required. As any experienced ex-pat will know.

Anyone can apply for any vacancy, yet those applicants without the stated qualifications make HR's job much easier and rarely get a second look.

Manchester United have a vacancy at the moment. I might give that a go. I have C&G

    Best regards, keep learning.

  4. If the N & E are connected in your electrical installation and your neighbor has an electrical problem within his/her electrical installation - you also have a problem because you are ostensibly connected to his/her installation.

To confirm this - take your shoes off - stand at the kitchen sink and turn on the tap. Put a sensitive part of your body under the running water coming out of the tap!

    Can you feel a tingle?

  5. Some good advice. Yet all seems academic doesn't it?

Water heaters have a built in ELCB.

All appliances purchased here are two pin, and the house wiring is L&N.

Thai guys don't understand the need for an earth or comprehend English language. They do know how to 'agree' when a farang suggest installing expensive equipment.

Safety-cut is a contradiction as a member has said. And it's illegal for a foreigner to do electrical work on his own or another's property.

The electricity supply has a proclivity to fluctuate wildly at times and any perceived safety device is more likely than not made in China for a European manufacturer.

TIT is't not real, it's all for show. beatdeadhorse.gif.pagespeed.ce.adWp7jUAu

  6. To get a job you need to have a degree from a recognised University & TELF qualification. A South African education diploma is not a recognised degree.

You can get the TEFL certificate here in 4 weeks & B20,000 if you have a basic understanding of English grammar, and a desire to learn.

Once you have theses qualifications, attributes and a positive outlook you can find a job here in Thailand. Yet you will be under constant personal, physical and psychological assessment. Foreign teachers earn a good salary and there is resentment from Thai co-workers looking to point out and exaggerate your weaknesses.

There are also many distractions and opportunities to relieve you of your money, self esteem, freedom, physical and emotional health etc etc. Thailand is not a place the naive hold onto their assets for very long.

I you have enough cash to come over and see for yourself, might be a shrewd idea to do so.

Have you done a SWAT or similar decision making assessment?

  7. I've been an apprentice sparky and qualified installation electrician for 25 years in the UK and never met a good one, myself included.

The difference here is that people go around bare foot and perspiring, low resistance to earth all bang and little bite. Shocking, have had hundreds and still going! Why? For example Thai people are resourceful, a cable could be blue at one end of a conduit and yellow at the other. Doesn't mean it isn't the same cable.

Do not attempt anything if you know nothing about it.

All reputable electrical retail outlets have/know of contractors and expect to pay a third of what you would at home. Basic 2 bed house 30K 1 week at B500/day. They'll try and ask for more.

Furthermore TIT do what the locals do. They know best.

If something is out of reach or needs a tool to access it doesn't require an earth, why would it?

Be careful, this is not a nanny state. Finally because something is expensive it doesn't mean it's any good does it?

  8. Countries, sensible people and mammals practice self preservation and conflict resolution every minute of the day. Thailand and the Japaneses did so in WWII, my cat and a King cobra did so last week when confronted with each other. Both stood their ground until the adrenalin subsided and wisely went their separate ways too enjoy another day.

Yet an element in society feel it is more important to exert a perceived dominance of others ignorant to the fact what goes around comes around.

Take a look at Mike Tyson.

    Be very careful out there.

  9. The climate in the West is bleak and gray. Many foreigners become emotionally and financially committed in Phuket. Very easy to have a kid, 'buy' a house or a boat. Not easy to liquidate.

Tourism in Phuket has evolved to accommodate organised tours from the East and they're very popular. Designated restaurants, Korean, Taiwanese, Japanese, designated shopping expeditions and default attractions at premium prices. The market is huge and the people go home with a good impression from the inside of a tour bus, new restaurant or impressive show, what a great business.

    Is anyone being cheated?

  10. If the price isn't displayed it's quite normal to ask how much something is . Misunderstandings occur if you doesn't ask, then the seller has the opportunity to 'overcharge' and here they do.

Jet skis don't tell customers in advance they could be a mark for a scam. Yet we all know it's true. Same in Swampy, be aware when your shopping in King Power.

Tourists work and save their money to go on holiday, they're easy marks to intimidate. And the rules here aren't the same as they are at home. Tesco in England was fined £300K when 1 person complained that they were displaying strawberries at a reduced rate for longer than they were displayed them at the regular price.

Some people choose to pay a premium E.g Villa Mart/Tops or super cheap/Macro Apple iphone/Nokia 109 same basic function different market segment 50 times the price.

All choice. Not nice to be cheated, just have to learn from it.

Be aware to be careful out there.

  11. The mum and pop shop was a half truth it's was meant to be an analogy, a joke. A reference to the sub-culture here in Phuket, Thaland - greed.

Losing face' also a childish ignorant joke.

Thailand belongs to Thai people, yet foreigners display the pathetic attitude. I did this, that and the other - it's boring and pathetic. Can't you see your Thai whore looking at the younger better looking farang? .

    No wonder Thais hate us.

    Be careful out there.
