  1. I can't get any of those "YouTube" videos to work. :o

    I always get the message:-

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Click here to get the latest flash player.

Even after I download the Flash player again and again. Yes I have Java turned on.

Do you have to register or subscribe to view these videos? :D

  2. Thank y’all for replies. :D

Think I will pass on the recipe thanks, I couldn't wait long enough, only instant ready to eat will do.

Maybe the sun has got to me but seeing in the past some of the other strange requests (English Indian curry!) thought PICKLED HERRINGS was not so way out.

Think I’ll pass on the goats balls also, pickled or not,

Only know a few land marks in BKK, Kohsan Road, Phantip and the UK Embassy so any directions to PICKLED HERRING shops would be a help.

The PICKLLED HERRINGS that have been spotted have they been sold loose or in jars? Jars would be good so as well as pigging out while in BKK I could take some back to the beach and enjoy at leisure in the coming months.

    Slurp……. I can taste them already :o:D:D

Where in Bangkok can I buy PICKLED HERRINGS?

    Yummy slurping noises……………….

  4. Some months ago I asked about a hood-thingy that I noticed above some ATM’s card slot.

    post-20390-1157710558_thumb.jpg

At the time no one seemed to know exactly what they were for though various theories were put out.

Well to-day I found out that they are a scanner used for paying some bills. Apparently you put the bar code of the bill you want to pay under the hood to get scanned and then pay your bill from the ATM.

It doesn't work for all bills but a neat idea and a convenient for some.

  5. Don’t know if anyone is interested anymore after some of the “off subject rubbish” that has been posted.

My baby girl, just 2 years old now, Thai wife Farang me, her first couple of farang words were gecko and crocodile.

Though she doesn’t know it yet she will miss Steve the family the zoo and the animals.

    So shall we.

  6. These types of map are readily available in hotels, restaurants and of course the Tourist Office.

Yes they are available like that but you have to be there at the right place at the right time.

If you are going for visa try:-

They are on the left side at the entrance to the Swiss Hotel. I have used them for years and never had a problem.

  7. I can’t really add much to what has already been said.

I can only raise a question, do you believe in your wife? I don’t mean that you actually “trust” her but when it comes to something like this you have a choice of believing your wife or some stranger.

If she is “The love of your life” every time you are together and gives you no reason for thinking that you are not the center of her universe – can you live with just that?

Two movies come to mind. In one Harrison Ford’s wife that had been killed in a plane crash was going away with her long time lover for a week end. Harrison had absolutely no idea about the affair and was devastated to find out. He looks back in time in his mind and asks the question “when was the last time something was the truth”?

I can’t recall the details of the other movie but in one scene one of the leading ladies taking to another about her coming home unexpectedly early one day and finding her husband in the shower with another woman. “What did you do”? Her friend asks. “I slipped out quietly without them noticing and never again went home unexpectedly without phoning first.

  8. Usually a service provider with call in lines will set an idle timeout to free a line not being used. Does it happen while you are actively using the Internet or only when you are not accessing it for a long period of time? Different providers may have different idle timeouts then others. Also check your local dialup configuration for idle timeout to make sure it is not happening on your end.

It happens when I am actively using the net.

At this end I have configured to the “never hang up”

With my dial-up line I don’t leave it connected for very long if I am not actively doing something.

  9. I have a TOT line with TOT “Free” internet. The 1222 connection when it works is not too bad but drops out every couple of hours. This is OK as they say upfront that though the internet is free it will redial every 2 hours. 3bt every couple of hours I can live with.

I also use two other internet providers Samart and CSloxinfo for when TOT does not work.

Samart is on a 1222 number and keeps dropping out on a regular basis almost same as TOT while CSLox is on regular local number and hardly ever drops out. It also works out the most expensive.

Is there something going for TOT so they can control the 1222 numbers to drop out thereby generating extra revenue?

Does anyone else on dial-up 1222 number and other providers find the same problem, or is it just something with Samart?

  10. Doing DIY, jobs around the house is not considered work.

Doing anything in a bar, including collecting glasses is considered work and would be treated as such.

What if the house is rented – not yours?

Or the in-laws house, would that still be classified as “not work”?

What if the house is in the GF/wife’s name?

  11. Mainland only, Don Sak has two piers, the Raja Ferry and the SeaTrans. Both of which run direct now. But, be aware that the boats run about 4-5 times a day, not every hour like Samui, you must queue and you may have a long wait.

Koh Tao does not have a car ferry in case that was the next question

The car ferry used to stop at Samui before going onto Koh Phangan.

If they don’t do that anymore you would have to go Samui – Mainland – then pass right by Samui again to get to Koh Phangan?

    Progress? :o

  12. Take an aircon taxi.

Make sure the meter gets turned on.

Have done the trip many times, price between 70-90 Baht.

Have never had any taxidriver not know where Panthp is or Kahosan Road on the return trip.

    Beachcomber.

    only a question ?

you sure its only 90 baht ? :D

i pay 90 baht to china town but aint been to pantip from there. :D

only a question me old mate. :D

    cheers :o:D:D

On reflection the last time I took a taxi was like before the price of fuel went up so yes it could be more now. :D

When I first arrived in Bangkok I would take the Tuk-Tuk thinking it was the cheapest. Thought I was doing well when I bargained down the trip to only 300bt. :D

Have tried busses, I’m sure they are great if you live/work in Bangkok and get to know the routes. But as a casual visitor wanting to get things done and back to the beach taxi is the only way. They are good value.

  13. How long in your opinion does it take the ex-pat to become synical about most aspects of Thailand and forget that nearly all he moans about now are the reason he came in the first place?

About the time you start being concerned where your money is going. :D

When you start to question the price of things ask for accountability of spending use phrases like “that’s too expensive” or “I can’t afford that” that is the time when you start to become cynical. :o

    Cheers :D
