  1. So many uninformative stories! It is closed! No explanation. Is there one in the Thai language article, I wonder?
  2. 48 cases in Bang Saphan seems like a lot. That ought to have been mentioned in the summary.
  3. His goal for Thailand is 'net zero emissions by 2065.' What will the country look like by that time?
  4. Thank you very much. I had never heard of Skype local number, but I will try it
  5. I need a UK phone number and I see that there are a good number of websites that provide them. Could anyone recommend one. With thanks.
  6. When I first met my wife, 35 years ago or so, she was uncomfortable with the fact that I would often sit and read a book. She said that it was anti-social. Her family had no books other than Buddhist texts and it was rare in those days to see anyone in a public place reading a book. She has led a perfectly happy life, though, without books. Each to his own.
  7. Seven years ago, my wife got a Bangkok number beginning with 3, but two years ago I got one beginning with 1.
  8. Last year, in Nakhon Phanom, I got my documents from the bank the day before I submitted my application, but the immigration officer sent me back to the bank. Everything had to be done the same day.
  9. Given that documents need to be obtained from a bank on the day you apply for the non-O visa and that the bank requires signatures, an agent surely cannot take care of that part. Or am I wrong?
  10. You are right. Building on flood plains is asking for trouble. However, 30 years ago, when my wife said that she wanted to have a house in Muang Ake, I didn't question her choice because I wasn't in Thailand and I knew little about Thai geography or history. Now, the area is undesirable because people know that the government cannot protect these low-lying districts from flooding.
  11. Good luck to you! Our house in Rangsit was under 3m of water for months in 2011. it was a terrible experience.
  12. I am driving my second CRV. I had the first for 5 years and I've had the current one for two years. I am an old man and I wanted a comfortable car for long journeys. I have had no problems with either car. The mileage is good (nearly 14 kms / litre), the car handles well, it has good acceleration, and it is very spacious. It is not flashy, but it looks nice. It is also quiet, so that I can enjoy music on a long journey. The only complaint that I have heard is that the rear seats are a little hard. My driver's seat, though, is great.
  13. But they totaled nearly 9,000 nights, which is only about 5,000 baht per day/night per person, so they are not exactly flinging money around.
  14. I am going to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital on Tuesday to get a Pfizer vaccination. The message says that it is free of charge. This is my first vaccination.
  15. Thanks for the warning. This time, I shall drive and take it easy. I'll go to Immigration in the afternoon and probably stay overnight in a hotel.
  16. Thank you very much. I should start reading forms carefully as I think that I qualify. That is very good to know. I appreciate the help.
  17. I use the 800K method and only withdraw the interest, so book shows that the deposit has never dipped below 800k.
  18. What did they require from the bank? The usual letter, a statement of the account, and photocopies of all (?) the pages of the bank book?
  19. Thanks for all the suggestions. I haven't seen gel ear plugs in the pharmacies, just the foam or plastic ones, but I'll look around. As for meditation, I have tried and failed. I am too easily distracted.
  20. You might think it is worse, but when I am driving I can stop and walk around and get my circulation going. I can also lie on the back seat and raise my legs for a while, which is something that doctors recommend as a way of avoiding blood clots.
  21. I have about a two-hour drive and I am hoping to be at the bank by 9 a.m. and then at Immigration by 10. I did think about leaving later and submitting my application in the afternoon. Perhaps 2 p.m. would be better.
