  1. A few years ago, a Thai neighbour told me that there is one day a week when the traffic on Phetkasem Road heading northwards is quieter because of restrictions placed on trucks. I don't remember the day and the neighbour has now gone, but if the claim is true and if there is an easier day on which to drive, I would be grateful for the information.
  2. I knew a South African who came from a rural district in the Eastern Cape and it was a struggle to understand him. It amused me to think what the little kids he taught would sound like.
  3. Avoid the long holiday weekends, though, because then it gets very noisy.
  4. I have to meet my wife who is arriving at Chumphon airport next week. The airport has two flights a day. I wonder what the staff do for the rest of the day.
  5. True, but I had other things to do in Hua Hin.
  6. You are right. It must defeat the purpose. The problem is how to keep the machine clean in a country where taps only have cold water. I have to boil water to clean mine.
  7. That's good to know. I thought about that, but I assumed that the paper would burn.
  8. Available online, not in the shop in Hua Hin. There wasn't a single one.
  9. I also have an old Philips and I am happy to learn about silicone liners because keeping it clean has always been a bit of a problem.
  10. I went to Hua Hin last week and found what I wanted. As I came from the south, I stopped first at Bluport, which was a big disappointment. The third floor was closed, and the other floors were very empty. My second stop was at PowerBuy, which was also a disappointment as it is really quite small. However, a young bloke there assured me that I could find whatever I wanted at Market Village, and he was right. They have an excellent selection of watches and fitness trackers, and I was able to buy a Samsung Galaxy 5 for my wife's birthday.
  11. Thanks for the help. I'll see for myself next week.
  12. That is good to know. I thought that I saw that there was a PowerBuy attached to a Tops supermarket. If not, I'll just buy online.
  13. Thanks. I think that I have to take a trip to Hua Hin. PowerBuy should have what I am looking for.
  14. Yes, thank you. I shall forget this.
  15. Thanks. I was hoping to avoid a trip to Hua Hin.
  16. I would like to buy something like a FitBit watch in Prachuap so that I can measure my exercise and sleep. I realise that I can buy one online, but I would like to find a shop in Prachuap which sells them so that I can have a good look at them. I would be grateful for any suggestions.
  17. The minimum daily wage will be 337 baht from October 1st and he is proposing to raise it to 800 baht over two terms (eight years?). Is that a radical proposal?
  18. It is surprising to learn that no-one from the Embassy or the Chiang Mai Consulate could act as an interpreter.
  19. Thank you very much. When I searched on Google, I got the results, but not on Lazada.
  20. Lazada has just reported 'no results' for spark plug or sparking plug. That is on my Acer laptop.
  21. I had some business in the UK which required a notarized copy of my passport. Siam Legal did it for 850 baht. The work looked good and solved my problem.
  22. Thanks for the information. 30 days gives me plenty of scope.
  23. My permission to live here in retirement ends on 17th October and I have to apply for a renewal in Hua Hin. However, at that time I need to be in Bangkok, and I have forgotten how many weeks beforehand a person can apply for a renewal. Could someone please tell me? With thanks.
  24. I also used Siam Legal, just a few months ago, after reading a recommendation on the Bangkok local site, and i was very happy with their service. It was fast, efficient, and inexpensive.
  25. Grass is 80% water and the clippings contain valuable minerals so they should be left on the lawn. If the grass is not long, you won't see the clippings after a couple of days. If it is long, just rake the clippings around.
