  1. Yes, there is no alternative. Fortunately, the Bangkok sub-forum has a recommendation for a notary in the north-east of the city, which will be convenient for me when I am there.
  2. I wanted a notarized copy of my passport in order to do some banking business in Britain, but the Consulate has cancelled my appointment on the grounds that they 'are not identity experts.' Hundreds of thousands of people have their identity checked at British ports of entry each week, but the British Consulate cannot find one person capable of saying 'Yes, this passport belongs to the old bloke standing here.'
  3. I stayed a number of times in a resort in Pranburi, which must be about 20 kms south of Hua Hin. It is the Palm Pran Resort, which is attractive, modern, quiet, and comfortable. There are plenty of reviews online.
  4. These comments confuse two separate acts of fraud. The video is about the British fraudster, James McCormick, and his ADE651 'detector,' and the news story is about the more successful American fraudster, James Bolton, and his GT200 'device.'
  5. When the prices are so high, I am surprised that Thais don't drive at a more economical speed. One US government website which I looked at said that driving at 110 kph rather that 80 kph (I converted from mph) uses 25% more fuel, but when I drive at 85 kph on a highway, everyone is whizzing by (with the exception of the trucks, of course).
  6. I live in a place where, before Covid, there were a lot of Swedish tourists, and during the high season i had to be very careful of Swedes on motorcycles because, more often than not, they would look the wrong way at a junction.
  7. How on earth would you know that? Why not congratulate the man for 25 years of valuable activity/
  8. Thanks to both of you. I looked at the British Embassy website and I see that they charge only 25 pounds for the service, so I will go there the next time I am in Bangkok as this is not an urgent matter.
  9. In order to close a bank account in the UK, I need to submit a notarized copy of my passport. My nearest big town is Prachuap Khiri Khan, and I would be grateful if anyone could recommend an office that will do this. I looked on the internet, but found nothing. With thanks.
  10. That's a nice idea, but 30 flights a day equals about 3,000 passengers or 1,500 cars.. Would you notice the difference?
  11. I used the two websites mentioned above, plus this one: Renewing a UK passport in Bangkok by Bangkok Phil (ajarn.com) Bangkok Phil seemed to add some useful extra information.
  12. Thank you very much. I didn't mention that I want to report in person.
  13. Is the 90-day reporting period still 14 days before to 7 days afterwards? I ask because I thought that I read somewhere that the 7-day extension had been cancelled. Thanks.
  14. I agree. For quite a number of years, I have been waiting for the bookshops in malls to close, but they have survived with some diversification. And their customers are predominantly Thai.
  15. Someone posted this here a few months ago. It is easier to believe than the earlier website. Thailand Average Monthly Wages | 2021 Data | 2022 Forecast | 1999-2020 Historical (tradingeconomics.com)
  16. BBB is the fourth on a list of eleven ratings (excluding plus and minus levels) and is the lowest of the investment grade ratings. The other seven are non-investment grades.
  17. Is it still the case that you can make the report 14 days before or 7 days after the date shown in the passport?
  18. There is a photo studio in the basement of Future Park in Rangsit that does passport photos. I got some there eight months ago when I had to apply for a new British passport. They had a list which mentioned the requirements of different countries, and I think that Canada was on the list.
  19. Chartchai Parasuk, an economist, predicted some months ago that the reopening of the country would result in an influx of illegal workers because demand for their services will be so great that employers will be ready to break the law, as they often are, and that these illegal immigrants will spark another round of infections.
